| Strengths: | Beefy, round, nice basic finish |
| Weaknesses: | Maybe too beefy? |
| Similar Products Tried: | Spot SS |
| Bike Setup: | Used w/ Rohloff Speedhub |
| Bottom Line: | Probably a little overbuilt for my XC needs, Black Spire DH rings are great because the come in so many sizes & BCD patterns and are all in the "normal range" of sizes required by the Rohloff Speedhub. They're fat suckers, gotta be 3 or 4mm thick at the mounting position, but they're stiff as heck and wear well. Even the black anodization stands up pretty well as the miles are piled on. I've got two on two different bikes, both 40T, one a 5-bolt compact and the other a 4-bolt. They're both round — no hot spots apparent on the SS-like setups. If you're not too gram conscious and in a bind for the right size DH/SS ring, there's a good chance Black Spire hase the size you need. |
