Submitted by Casual Rider a Weekend Warrior from Lexington, MA
    Date Reviewed: December 23, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:$79, a steal from Jenson USA
    Strengths:EZ to set-up.
    Does the job.
    Very quiet.
Don't know why I didn't get it sooner.
Weaknesses:Instructions are a little hazy... doesn't tell you which roller goes where, so I installed them incorrectly resulting in a lot of chain noise. Finally reversed them, now they are very quiet.
Similar Products Used:None... this is the first chain-guide I've ever purchased, but I'm glad I go this one.
Bike Setup:An old Indy Fab Deluxe that I've had rewelded into a 9 speed beater bike. Chain dropped several times during a foray into the woods so I went ahead and got the MRP.
Bottom Line:When my old Deluxe was still a 3-ring bike, the worst thing that could happen when my chain dropped was a surprise shift into my granny gear.
Now that I'm only running 1 ring up front, the MiniMe is a necessity. Get it and install it before your chain drops during a group ride and you get left behind by your best buds.

    Favoriate Trail:Reaper (B.C.)
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $18.00
    Purchased At:Home made
Strengths:Fool proof, reliable, You can run a 32t ring- good for urban, trails, and not racing
    Weaknesses:stock plates
Similar Products Used:Kore Chain reactor, LRP
    Bike Setup:Storm H2, Super T, DH goodies
Bottom Line:The Mini-Me actually served as the patern for the chainguide I run. A buddy has one, and I traced the boomerang on an Al plate and used a plasma cutter to make one of my own. I already had two bashrings, and bought two rollers form JensonUSA. My home made setup works flawlessly. Using two thick bashrings is the way to go. The guy that has the actual Mini me has since bent the heck out of his side plates, and he really doesnt weigh that much. I have cased ledges hard on hop-ups, and none of my parts are any worse for the wear. A+ for the design, C for the side plates, D for the price (if you buy it).Thing is, though, how do you measure Value if your trip to a race is ruined by a lost chain when a hundred dollar part could have prevented it?

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Purchased At:Through sponsor
Strengths:Reliability, strenght of materials, bash protection, smoothness of the pulleys and ajustability of the pulleys' height.
Weaknesses:The V-plate which holds the pulleys can get loose. So make sure to fiz your BB cup very well.
Similar Products Used:Other MRPs on other bikes, and Truvativ's chainguide
    Bike Setup:KHS Fetish "buffed up"
Bottom Line:I am not sure how much this chainguide costs, however, I believe it is one of the cheapest MRPs you can get. It is only for elevated chainstay bikes. If you run on a 44 t chainring, you might want to get a chainguide for 44t+ chainrings, that way you get a little more "bash" protection and the chain won't jump off the ring on fast rough sections.

    Price Paid: $110.00
    Purchased At:bikeman.com
Strengths:keeps my chain on the ring and properly tensioned, not too heavy, protects my $44 dh ring!
Weaknesses:had to hunt for a good price, lots of fit problems
Similar Products Used:Evil DRS... very different... race face bash ring... only protects the chainrings
Bike Setup:khs DH100, risse trixxy, hayes, king wheels
Bottom Line:MRP said i'd have to use a hacksaw and cut off the top part of the boomerang, they were wrong, i just had to rotate it backwards a little, not in "optimal position" but still works great. its a great product, i feel it is (along with all other chain guides) way over priced, i was glad to get it for 109.95. also, be careful because of the fit issue, i wanted to run a 40t ring with a slalom guide because they said there would be no fit issue, then when i goto order it, they said its only compatable with a 94mm crank, and that caused a whole mess of trouble. in any case, i have the world cup 1, 44t ring, dura ace 11-23t cassette and couldnt be happier.... for steep stuff, i would want to drop my granny gear 5-10 gear/inches, but other wise all is well, in a few months i'll submit another review

Strengths:Super beefy yet lightweight.. You can choose either 3mm or beefy 5mm thickness for outer plate. Easy to set up. Doesn't move or come loose. Holds the chain well. No noise no rubbing.
    Weaknesses:None

Bottom Line:I've bashed this thing around plenty... Learning how to ride a DH bike really puts the hurtin on your gear. You really have to own a durable set up. I thought this thing was going to get destroyed but it held up without a problem. I've hit is so many times you can't imagine. Drops to flat, casing huge boulders! Anyway the World Cup works great and is user friendly. I'm not a mechanic and it was really easy for me to set up... Just read the directions and your off!!!

Strengths:Chainguide works good for some bikes.
Weaknesses:Condescending tech support. After calling long distance several times to get some info the guy told me "thats all the free tech support your gonna get". I didnt know that it was going to cost extra for tech support. The guide cost about $160.
    Similar Products Used:none
    Bike Setup:Kona Stab Primo
Bottom Line:Im not gonna trash the product because its good. Make sure it is compatible with your bike. I had to modify it by bending it in a vise. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right before I trashed it. When I called to ask more questions the dude told me "ryan said he gave all the help he could and if you cant figure it out then you should go to a shop". Ive been a mechanic and I dont know of any shop that would modify an expensive part like this. They would tell you to buy a different one that fits. Very unprofessional on MRP's part. They are also understaffed.

    Similar Products Used:

    Bike Setup:
    Freeride bike: K2 Beast
Bottom Line:Well, I'm certainly happy with this component because it actually works. Although, get the one that sanwiches between the BB shell and BB, not the one that screws into the BB shell (scratches and eats away at the BB shell). If you do get the one that mounts on your frame (you might have to cuz your BB might not work with it) take small and thin pieces or strips of metal and put one between each screw and the BB shell. That way, the screws don't kill your BB shell. You'll have to adjust the angle of the MRP because some bikes have more travel than others thus leading to more chain slackening as the shock compresses. And, watch out for big rocks. The only problem with thing is that it's sorta out there in the open for a large rock to hit out of place. But, technically you're not supposed to use this thing on DH...I do but I'm gonna go with a full MRP...I just wanted to have all three C-rings. But over all, if you do XC and a bit of DH, this thing is for you!

I have used several different brands of chain tensioners over the last couple of years with marginal success
untl I came across the MRP. No more bent tensioner clamps or gouged chainstays. The MRP gets
sandwiched between the frame and bottom bracket. It uses a wheel that is totally silent with sealed
bearings. The tension can be adjusted by position on the bottom bracket. I have not had a single mishap
with this product since I put it on. 5 Chillies
