Similar Products Used:tektro-V
Bike Setup:gremica system 1 front , diacompe vc733 rear V on alex rim
Bottom Line:for the money they will do u good for a while , but dont expect much after this. Theyll get soggy and ull get sick of their non-ability to brake with feel on hills

Date Reviewed: November 11, 2000
Favorite Trail:Van Cortlandt Park, Orchard Beach, Pelham Park
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:They stop
Weaknesses:can't stay adjusted, "sqeeksaLOT", and springs are not strong enough.
Similar Products Used:Avids, Disk brakes
Bike Setup:Specialized FSR Sport
Bottom Line:They were great at first, but as I used them, they got weaker, especially for downhill.

Submitted by JW Whitmarsh a Cross Country Rider from Lancaster, CA
Date Reviewed: May 27, 2000
Favorite Trail:dirt
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Well, lessee...I pull on the levers, they stop the bike. What more is there?
Weaknesses:Occasional pad squeak on the front (I've never seen brakes that didn't do this)
Bike Setup:1999 Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS
Bottom Line:I still can't figure out what everyone is complaining about. These things have pulled me out of some pretty hairy descents, and other than some rear-wheel lockup (which is entirely my fault), I've never experienced ANY of the problems y'all are talking about here. Never been adjusted, and still stop on a dime. Can't ask for more than that.

Submitted by Romeo Felicano a Cross Country Rider from Diego Garcia (Where?)
Date Reviewed: February 10, 2000
Favorite Trail:All of them
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Price.
Weaknesses:Everything else. Flex, poor stopping, poor brake pads, weak springs, you name it...
Similar Products Used:Avid 1.0(way better) Avid Arch Rival 50(on my Ti bike)
Bike Setup:1998 Klein Pulse Pro with XT. 99 LX cranks. Custom built wheelset with XTR rear hub/GT CNC front hub.
Bottom Line:The worst V-brake that I have ever used. Spend the $$$ for Avids at least!

Submitted by Jim Carleton a Weekend Warrior from Ottawa, Ontario
Date Reviewed: October 27, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Ottawa River to Aylmer
Duration Product Used:
6 months
Strengths:
Like the anti-skid. Great stopping on road/paved path which is where I usually ride.
Weaknesses:
Brake Pads tore up the aluminum rims during the first ride. Replaced with KoolStops immediately. Now just a mild squeal that I can't get rid of.
Similar Products Used:
None.
Bike Setup:
'99 Specialized Crossroads
Bottom Line:Haven't tried any other V-Brakes but they were a big step up from the cantilevers on my cheapie Diamondback Outlook.

Favorite Trail:
Ceasar's creek
Duration Product Used:
3 months
Strengths:
Cheap
Weaknesses:
Cheap(junk)
Similar Products Used:
All Shimanos
Avid 1D
Bike Setup:
Specialized FSR Sport
Bottom Line:Simply junk. The brakes won't hold an adjustment. The levers have too much play in them. These brakes are obviously one of the reasons you can buy an FSR for only $740.00. Spend a little extra and get Avids.

Submitted by Jason a Weekend Warrior from Kanata, Ontario, Canada
Date Reviewed: July 25, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Don't have one
Duration Product Used:
3 months
Strengths:
These are the safest brakes that you can buy! It's absolutely impossible to flip yourself with these brakes!
Weaknesses:
No power, no modulation, hard to adjust, constantly needs oil or else the arms start moving weird. Oh yeah, they look pretty ugly too.
Similar Products Used:
STX, Avid SD10
Bike Setup:
'99 Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS
Bottom Line:This page wasn't here before, but I had to add it just to say how crappy these brakes are. I can't believe that Specialized would use this sort of trash. I've used cantilievers that are better than these pieces of trash. Two chillies because they still sort of work.
