I didn't really notice how bad they were since most of my riding was light XC. When I took my bike to Korea and came down some of the trails I noticed that I could pull my front brake lever to the grip and I wasn't going over the bars. I thought it was just the long decent but they are the same way on flat ground at 5-10mph. That's really sad when I think that my mechanicals would lock up the front tire even at the very end of a 5 mile decent. When they are wet they make noises and get much less braking power. stopping power from the LX brakes was exellent but I started to notice a strange scraping 'metal on metal' noise under heavy braking. On inspection I have noticed pieces of metal imbedded in the pads and some scoring on the rims (my nice new crossrides !!)
Pads also seem to dissapear at an alarming rate as soon as the weather becomes remotely damp ( not good living in the welsh damp climate)
In short..

I replaced the Shimano V pads with Avid Rim Wranglers and noticed a big improvement. Don't buy Shimano brake pads. I dont know where these shards come from, but they gouged the beautiful machined sidewalls of my Rhyno Lites somthing fierce (I hope they werent pieces of rim). Unless you want to ruin your rims and waste money, don't ever buy these pads. The LX brakes work well, just replace the pads first thing with some Kool Stops.
