An old truck tube will also do the job!! | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | Raleigh R-600, Selle Saddle, Cateye Computer. | | Bottom Line: | Look in the phone book for a trailer hitch installation shop,go and get an estimate on a drawtite. Most shops have a booklet with illustrations for carriers with different capacities. Comes with brake/turn signal lights which is a good thing if you ever seen a rack full of bikes block the vehicles lights. When my Trek 5200 carbon fiber bike is hanging off the tail of the van, I don't want anyone tail-ending me! Tilts out of the way of the hitch easily. Not too difficult to remove and install. | | Weaknesses: | The one long plate to clamp down on all four bikes makes it difficult when the bikes have different top tube diameters. Using pipe insulating foam helps here. Made of very heavy materials (which might also be a good thing). Rocks back and forth quite a bit at the receiver. Probably not a problem with a 2" receiver. | | Similar Products Used: | Graber. | | Bike Setup: | Road, mountain, and hybrids. | | Bottom Line: | I bought a new Mercury Villager minivan and had the hitch, wiring, and bike rack installed for about $350. Sturdy, not prone to failure. Fairly easy to install and use. | | Weaknesses: | It's a little bit klutzy. Rubberized padding causes the eyebolt that holds/releases the bikes to stick, requiring some fussing to move to the correct position. Has problems accomidating several bikes if their tube sizes are different from each other. Sticks out kind of far from car rear. Device for reducing the rack tight with the reciever hitch to prevent movement is a pain to put on and take off, and not particularly necessary. | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | Rear mounted, attaches to a 2" reciever hitch. Bikes held behind car. | | Bottom Line: | Recomend, though other 4 bike cariers may be easier to use. We used it with a Ford Explorer and Dodge Caravan, worked well with both. The bike rack is excellent for the price. I went to get a trailer hitch put on my suv, when i noticed that they sell bike racks. WEll the bike rack is awesome for the price. I paid around $130 for it. 1st it holds 4 bikes, it drops down so you can open your doors, and plus it comes with tail lights. The rack is made of metal so it ireal durable. Something like this in a thule or yakima brand would of cost me probably around the high $300-400. So if you want to get a good bike rack go to a local trailer hitch store, make sure they sell the Draw-Tite brand. | | Weaknesses: |
