$2000.00 | | Purchased At: | online | | Strengths: | this is one bike that i can say is bomb proof. Unless you throw it off a cliff, it will stay in tact. i rife it hard and it has held up quite nicely. It desends vey well(depending on set up, and climbs well- again depending on set up.) | | Weaknesses: | bearings bearings bearings. upgrade to better ones or get wierd faces looking at you saying what the heck is that noise? The frame, mine a 98 gt sts 1500 ds is carbon, and carbon squeaks and creaks. this is not a major prob by all means but does tend to be quite enoying. Also, after awile, the rear shock will tend to lose ground so to say. to get a better feel and better adjustability, upgrade to a fox. | | Similar Products Used: | y22, lts, other gt i drives | | Bike Setup: | full xtr, x-vert super, xtr wheel set, some race face, chris king(the best) | | Bottom Line: | if u want a bike that is a "all around" type of bike, i guess this would be the one. It like i said depends how u soop it up. i went for the dh run and it will decend like crazy but it is quite hefty and does weigh a lot. it is a reliable bike and if you can still find one and are a die hard gt fanatic that wants a fun ride, i would recomend it. also it can be interchangable with 3-4 inches of rear travel by swithcing the little black chip in the back which is cool, and of couse the carbon frame. 4 flamin dookies for now | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Tons of adjustability and high tech geek appeal. Headset supports triple crown forks. AWESOME FREERIDE BIKE!!! | | Weaknesses: | Like all the LTS / STS the bushings will annoy you and your riding buddies when they are singing, and they do sing. The stock rock shox super delux on the rear is absolute rubbish. I went thru three of the things before I replaced it with a syncros (flawless). But that degree of punishment never hurt any part of the frame / linkage. Minor point but, Red white and blue stickers on a black carbon and aluminum bike ? GT.. come on!?!?! I peeled the stickers off in the 1st 10 minutes. The lowest pivot location can cause a chain suck problem. Extracting the chain past that pivot can be agonizing. | | Similar Products Used: | GT Avalance / Zaskar, Kona Stab Primo. This bikes fits perfectly down the middle. The bike has performed wonderfully, although it has needed alot of adjustment and attention to maintenance items. I can confidently say that this bike has made me a better rider by allowing me to do things on it that were previously unadvisable. Fast, and climbs incredibly. Mine is kinda heavy at 28 lbs because I have 636 pedals on there and a HEAVY wheelset. But with a light wheelset and normal pedals. It'll weigh 25.5 pounds easy, which is respectable. In my opinion better than a hardtail cause it keeps your rear in contact with the ground, especially on loose condition. john sudworth should stop bumping the crack pipe so much. The gt blows away the can o ale raven any day . I kwow because I work at a shop and i know Cannondale. It has a Bouncy ride unless you run and air-oil shock. We all know how much of a pain in the rear air shocks are, dont we. The gt has smooth even travel through all 5 inches. As for breaking linkage parts Ive never seen that happen . Maybie you should put the rear wheel on the bike before you ride it. The only problem i have see with the GT is that the pivots squeak after a bit. GT now has sealed bearing pivots available. Later | Overall Rating: |

I bought this frame for $899 at Wheelworld. I put a complete XTR package on it, and an Answer FS Ti fork. I like the way it just flows over the bumps, jumps and is easily ridden fast. I think it is not as good on technical, tight twisty trails though. It can really climb technical stuff really well on the other hand. It is really easy controlled on fast, hard jumps. It does make some odd noises here and there, and those bushings need cleaning and re-lubing often. Overall it seems to be a really good suspension bike. Although Wheelworld needs a little help with their customer service. They didn't send any instructions, or any literature to help me with maintenance or repair. | Overall Rating: |

This bike SUX bigtime. If this is the poor standard of manufacturing that GT are going in for these days then... well, I hope they aint in this business for much longer. I busted the left parallel of the rear linkage my first time out on this bike, the saddle rails snaped next and thirdly the rear shock inter-pivot point f***** up! Luckily I managed to sell this piece of crap and went for a real bike... a RAVEN. | Overall Rating: |

I bought a GT STS 1 about 6 months ago and it has been great! It climbs like nothing I have ever ridden before. My last bike was a Schwinn Homegrown hardtail and I was amazed that the GT climbs better than my hardtail. It is adjustable from 4 or 5 inches of travel, I have it with 4 and it is still very plush. So far I haven't had any problems with it. | Overall Rating: |

from Staten Island, NY Date Reviewed: May 31, 1998 | | Bottom Line: | THe bike is great. When it's working, that is. I just keep mine in the shop and take it out when I want to ride it, then return it right after. Yes, it's a sweeet ride, but I've blown the rock shox deluxe rear shock, the frame / seatpost combo CREAKS CONSTANTLY and I am always taking out the bushings and greasing them. This lasts for about a ride, very frustrating. I've replaced the original white bushings with GT's new blue ones, but this didn't help. When I first got the bike, the bolts for the four bar linkage pieces behind the seatpost were too short, loosened and fell out during a downhill sting at Mount Snow, VT. GT sent replacement bolts that were longer. THe bike also lost several other suspension bolt combos in spite of having used blue, then red locktite. Eventually I wrapped each bolt with a ton of teflon plumbers tape, which has kept most bolts around, lately. Anyway, I'm left wondering if a high maintenance four bar linkage ride is worth it. I'm getting a hard tail just so I have something reliable to ride. | Overall Rating: |

I have owned my Ridge Rocket for a little more than a year now and I can say without hesitation - NO COMPARISON!! I've owned a suped-up Super V, fast Fat Chance Yo Eddy (hard tail), and ridden several friends' full and front suspension models but nothing can touch the versatility and handling of this one. Granted, she's had her problems but every bike does (or will). WORD TO THE WISE: 1) get rid of the Judy SL! I've broken the cross-brace twice (once on a mildly rutted fire road turn!) I switched to the White Brothers SC90 - matches the rear suspension better and is a lot stiffer. 2) I cracked the bottom bracket aluminum lug (I only weigh 165# and am not rough on the frame-honest) GT is treating me right though and replacing the frame! (some credit goes to my buddy John J. at Wheel World in Woodland Hills). 3) Get some ceramic wheels! I went with Crossmax. Your brakes will work awesome without the unnecessary weight of hydraulics. 4) Invest in some Gore cables - no more annoying cable stiction and miss-shifts. After all my weenie chi-chi's, I managed to get the bike down to sub-25 pounds - not bad for an all purpose machine!! | Overall Rating: |
