Description:GT GTB

Submitted by Kensuke Arai a Cross-Country Rider from Chicago, IL
Date Reviewed: March 26, 1999
Favoriate Trail:
Life
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
Stiff, simple.
Pretty, in a plain, ugly way.
Dura-Ace part on a $699 bike.
Weaknesses:
Bike has no components besides wheels, stem, handlebar, and fixed drivetrain. How can you mess that up?
Actually, even though its got nothing on it, the bike is pretty heavy. It weighs around 19.5 lb. I guess the 36 hole rims and frame are not all that light.
Bike Setup:
Araya rims, Sugino 165mm track cranks, CODA clipless pedals
Bottom Line:Fast. Riding into a head wind with only a 46 X 15 gear puts thick, coarse hair on ones chest. Considering its price, 19.5 lb not too bad. Every road rider should own at least one track bike in their life. It doesn't suck up to you the way modern bikes do. If you stop pedalling, it will remind you to keep going with a rude jolt. To get the bike to stop is an art in itself, requiring a rear wheel hop and then back pedalling in mid air. The track handlebars themselves kindof forces you to ride in the drops all the time, since there are no brake hoods to rest ones hands on. Riding on the road becomes even more spiritual. The rhythm of the pedals must not stop.
Overall Rating:5
