    Date Reviewed: July 7, 2008
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $20.00
    Purchased At:Some Web Site
Strengths:They are small and light weight. There is a ÈProÈ version now that are a bit more beefy and are way more ergonomic. Iève used them both now.
Weaknesses:The plastic is total junk. I read through the earlier reviews and totally agree with most. I owned my Pro versions (you know, the more beefy ones) for only a month and one went flying after my first wreck! Also, I couldn't get them not to rotate on my bars, no matter what I did. I even went as far to roughen up the end of my bars with a Dremal in hopes to add more friction. No luck.
Similar Products Used:I hate having bull horns off my handle bars, which is why I went for the smaller size of these guys.
Bottom Line:Never buy these! They WILL break in you within 6 months. A total waste of money. And, as everyone else has said, no way to contact the manufacturer. I've owned two sets now, and have had two of them break. I won't be buying more.

Strengths:Great shape and size. Light weight.
Weaknesses:Made from a Hard but VERY BRITTLE plastic that easily cracks.
A very tight fit onto handle bar making installation a bit of a pain, but not that bad.
    Similar Products Used:Profile Carbon
Bike Setup:Giant Anthem, XO, XTR Crank, F100, Juicy Ultamite
Bottom Line:Would really like this Bar end if it was made with a better plastic. Seems to have been made with a very brittle plastic that cracks very easily when installing or tightening. Be very careful not to tighten to much or they'll shatter as mine did. This was quite a shock to me as they were being installed onto carbon bars, which you can't exactly crank anything to every tightly.

    Strengths:Nice shape
    Weaknesses:Weak
Bottom Line:I put these on my bike in December and didn't get to ride with them (too much snow) until a few weeks ago. Both cracked over the winter (maybe due to temp changes?) and are now worthless. No response to email and nobody answers the phone. Are these guys still in business?
    Summary: worthless and a scam.

Weaknesses:Bolt stripped on one side during installation. Was being very careful using a torque wrench.
    Similar Products Used:Titec
    Bike Setup:Rocky Mountain Vertex 30
Bottom Line:I do not recommend these at all. They are cheap plastic and strip way too easy. If it helps I am running carbon bars so maybe they are a wider diameter because these suckers would barely fit on the bars with the bolts off.

    Strengths:??
    They are light and inexpensive.
Weaknesses:I couldn't get these installed on my bike. I measured the bar-end opening and it is significantly undersized (.020in) relative to the handlebar.
I tried contacting the company-phones, etc, not working
Similar Products Used:Onza bar ends - back in day
Bike Setup:I planned on using them on my Single-speed for an extra gear.
Bottom Line:I should have read these reviews before I bought them.

The products don't fit on their intended application.

Strengths:First off I have the Pro's not the Lites. Now for the strengths:
Appearance - The outrageous comments from my riding buddies.
Ergonomics - The Pro's fit my hand like nothing else I've tried and the centering of my palms over the center of the bar works.
Performance - I have to say I have not experienced the strength issues I've read in other reviews. I've taken the bark off of trees with these things. Flipped and crashed on hardpan and sustained no structural damage to the bar ends (I can't say the same for the body). I'm now looking for another set for my single speed.
Weaknesses:I'm running carbon fiber bars and you can't just crank the bolts down and go. All the surfaces need to be prepaired and the bolt torques measured. That being done I haven't had any problems so far.
    Similar Products Used:Numerous
Bike Setup:Titus racer-X: Dave's Speed Dream wheels with Chris King hubs, Thomson stem and post, Shimano XT throughout (not XTR for durability), Easton Monkey lite. Fast and fun!
Bottom Line:With a little prep in mounting these things work for me. They have become my favorite bar ends period. I will put them on all my mountain bikes. And no I am not affiliated with singletrak solutions what-so-ever. Good luck and "ride hard".

    Strengths:Lightwieght and not over cumbersome
    Weaknesses:none that I've found
Similar Products Used:Titec bar ends, don't care much for the bull horn type bar ends
Bike Setup:Trek 4300, race face crank and bash guard, Rockshox Duke XC, time Z pedals, BB7 brakes
Bottom Line:They mounted easily and I've had severl good wrecks and they are taking a beating. Last wreck the bike slammed down hard enough to break my rear derailure hanger and clog up the barend with dirt and rocks but they didn't break.

I think most of the negative feedback is due to improper installation. You can't tighten the things down on your bars so that the there is no gap at the screw hole. They don't need 40 foot lbs of torque to stay on. People are over tightening them, putting too much stress or actually putting small stress fractures in them and then 1 wreck it breaks and they blame it on the product and not their lack of mechanical skills. Once the pinch bolt starts getting hard to turn, another 1/4 turn on the allen wrench and your done.

Bottom Line:Don't buy it! Don't buy it! Don't buy it. Don't buy it. Don't buy it. Unless they start puting in some spline in the bar-end, or use some softer/tougher plastic, this thing is going to break. It's a cool product, but they really need to fix this thing.

Weaknesses:They slip, they are very uncomfortable, they are just as heavy as larger aluminum or carbon fiber bar ends even though these are plastic
Bottom Line:These things are horrible - they have a very narrow oval shape which actually digs into your hand and causes discomfort. You have to tighten the screw to the point you think it's about to strip out to get them to stop rotating around the handlebar. They are going right back to Performance for a refund - I even cut my Oury grips to mount these pieces of junk!

Bottom Line:I bought the PRO version of these which appear stronger and are larger but still lite. They went on carbon bars on a new build. Before even riding the bike, I changed the angle on one, re-tightened, and it broke in half. I was not cranking, it broke like an icecycle. These are guaranteed to NEVER break...but....there is no way to contact the manufacturer to cover the warranty. The website is dead and Blueskycycling could not find their phone number after two good efforts. Bluesky offered to replace them if I pay for shipping two more times - to return the broken one and to recieve a new pair back. Why would anyone pay almost the purchase price all over again for barends that broke before they were even used?

Strengths:Price, lightweight, adds additional hand position for longer rides, somewhat improves climbing position.
Weaknesses:Difficult to get tight enough to prevent rotating. Broke 1/4" ahead of screw after 9 months, and I didn't even crash - one of them just broke!
    Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Cannondale Jekyll 400, Avid BBDB Series 7 disc F/R, Avid Ti brake levers.
Bottom Line:I chose these for the price and size. I like the feel of barends mainly for the security feel and different hand positions available. My bike fits nicely and don't feel the need to move my hands on the short technical climbs I normally encounter, and these barends don't really provide the length needed for the purpose of moving hands forward and really cranking on long climbs. For my purpose, they worked fine - until they broke! If it wasn't for the failure, I would have rated them 5&4.

Now, along with my leg strength, I can also use my arms to the fullest, which gives a lot more added strength. And as of yet, I haven't had any problem with clipping trees or hitting objects, only faster ascents. They are also extremely light, which is a plus. Strengths:light, subtle, comfy. gives me a nice flat spot to rest the edge of my hand which makes for better weight distribution vs just the handlebar - good for long rides. will not break or damage my $$ carbon bars! Great customer service! Everything you need in a bar-end and nothing you don't.
    Weaknesses:the weak-minded.
Similar Products Used:None, did'nt use barends. I did try the older more fragile ones, but have better happy-ness with these new ones.
Bike Setup:Trek Fuel.Speedplay.Kenda.Thomson.SpinLiteCycling.com wheels. Carbon bar. STS bar-ends positioned horizontal, and I filed the top flatter for comfort.
Bottom Line:I like to call these little gems handlebar-accessories and not bar-ends. I did'nt used bar ends for years due to the weight and lack of use; could not justify the weight. If your bike is set up right there should be no need to reach way out in front of your handlebar. I always held on to the bar-end right at the handlebar anyway, never at the end. It was just a way to be able to rotate my hands 90 degrees.
With the STS I have all I need. I can rotate my hands and grab on at the outer most edge of my bar and power like crazy, or I can just let my hands migrate onto the bar end finding a more comfy position.
Must-have for racers or go-fast riders wanting the best stuff.

Getting a different hand position also minimizes fatigue on your hands. This product is so light and small that you won't even notice it's there until feel how much it really helps.
