    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $50.00
    Purchased At:airborne
Strengths:Titanium, gorgeous shape, functional positioning. Wide clamp area will not crimp handlebar while providing ridgid grip. Satin finish matches most Ti frames.
Weaknesses:Wide clamp area reduces effective bar width. Satin finish, not fine polished. Clamp bolt could wreak havoc on knees.
Similar Products Used:Stubby bar ends - not enough for me. Thermoplastic barends, lighter, and very cool, but not as ridgid. Cheap Taiwanese barends are really just as good.
Bike Setup:Put these on a Dean Ti hardtail with 26inch wide bars. Must be careful in narrow forests and chapparal.
Bottom Line:These Ti bar ends are great! They reminded me of the Ibis Rosies that are no longer available. I think Ibis had a good idea, and these Airbornes improve on that idea. These aren't really exceptionally light. If you have a Ti frame and use bar ends, these are a good choice.

Strengths:Light weight, good looks, ti tough, fits my hands well
Weaknesses:None, although I would have like them polished even more.

Bike Setup:2001 Airborne Lucky Strike XTR
Bottom Line:These walk the walk, and talk the talk. Rough & Tough Ti absorbs harsh vibrations. Feel light in your hands. Octagon shape works well for gripping & ripping. I don't see what the first reviewer was complaining about. I ordered these bar ends for my Lucky Strike. I could have ordered anything I wanted, but these are the real deal as far as I am concerned.

    Date Reviewed: September 21, 2001
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Strengths:weight, ti vibration absorption
Weaknesses:price, clamp width, length of L-bend, hard angle of welded joint
Similar Products Used:original Onza bar ends (ca. 1990), Profile Boxers, Avenir L-bends, Titec L-Bends
Bike Setup:Airborne Lucky Strike with Titec PG bar (stolen Feb. '01)
Bottom Line:Okay, so I had the original Joy Styx, not the octagonal ones, but the only differences are the hand fit and that mine had 6/4 ti bolts, which sucked, BTW (hard to keep tight). Regardless, these bar ends must have been made for midgets, because my hands barely fit on the straight part. And the extension was extremely short: way too short to grip comfortably on its own. A standard L-bend bar end has three basic positions: the perpendicular extension, around the curve, and on the L-bend, basically parallel to the handlebar. These bar ends only had two; the welded-on bar was way too short for the third. And speaking of which, that sharp, hard weld joint is nowhere near as comfortable as the curved L-bend of the Avenirs, Boxers, or Titecs.

I recommend these only to weight weenies who still want a second position on their bar ends, or racers who ride a lot of really narrow singletrack flanked by trees and need some protection.
