$2300.00 | | Purchased At: | goodales | | Strengths: | fast, lightweight, begs to climb | | Weaknesses: | stock tires, grips, pedals and seats. Can only use a couple of forks due to g2 fork offset. | | Bike Setup: | stock except 2.35" kenda nevegal front and 2.1" panaracer fire XC rear and ruffian grips. | | Bottom Line: | This review is for an 07 hifi pro, this is my first full suspension bike and I couldn't be happier. This was the first full suspension bike that I test rode and I loved the way it climbed and descended and the cockpit just felt right. I test rode about a dozen other bikes after riding the hifi and while some felt a little smoother descending this bike offered the best all around ride by a longshot. I've been riding it for about a month and this thing climbs better and takes tight switchbacks better than my stump jumper hardtail and weighs less. I am also thoroughly impressed with the stiffness of the frame under power while climbing and don't even bother using the propedal feature unless I'm on asphault. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2400.00 | | Purchased At: | Mike's Bikes | | Strengths: | This bike weighs exactly the same as the hard tail I was riding before, which I had carbon fibered out. It gets up and down hills in a hurry and I'm riding faster and stronger than I have before. | | Weaknesses: | As previous posters have mentioned the Bontrager stock tires are weak, I swapped them out after 120 miles after a couple of scares flying down hills in loose dirt. | | Similar Products Used: | Tested the Nomad, HiFi deluxe 29er, Santa Cruz Blur. | | Bike Setup: | Stock except I put some Werewolves on it. | | Bottom Line: | I test rode a couple of the well known FS bikes and really loved the handling and components on the HiFi Pro. I agonized and agonized over the price and one day my local shop had a sale and I convinced them to drop the price around $500. This was my first foray in FS and I have to say I love the propedal RP23. I am still trying to figure out all the settings but so far it has the perfect amount of give. I just wish it had remote lockout because it can be tough to get to the switch. Overall, I love this bike and feel like it was worth every penny. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2200.00 | | Purchased At: | Hudson Trail | | Strengths: | Great performing XC racer\Epic ride mountain bike, suspension travel, high bb, not much pedal bob if any, matte pearl white paint finish and most of all got a great deal on it. | | Weaknesses: | None so far... | | Similar Products Used: | '00 Specialized FSR XC Pro | | Bike Setup: | Stock Medium 2008 Gary Fisher HiFi Pro (Matte Pearl White Finish) and XTR Pedals. | | Bottom Line: | This bike pretty much fits all my needs for racing in my local grassroots XC races at my home trail and for venturing out to other bigger trails in the MD\VA area. I was truly impressed with the climbing ability of this bike with the rear shock in the open position. It climbed easier than my Big Sur. The bike just flowed through the fast technical stuff, climbed with ease (sitting and standing) and handled the rock gardens with ease making me faster overall. I just had a huge grin coming off the trail yesterday due to the bike handling so well and that I had my best training ride of the year. My '08 Big Sur is being relegated to family rides and an on-road trainer for those days when the trails are recovering from the downpurs.
Buy this bike if you're looking for an all around XC racer\Epic ride machine. You will not regret buying it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$3500.00 | | Purchased At: | Michaels Bicycles | | Strengths: | Very upgradeable. Well mannered. Fox Float 32RLC and RP23. Sprints and climbs well. | | Weaknesses: | Shimano. Stock tires. Requires rim strips and valves to make em tubeless. Component spec could be better. Juicies squeal like pigs. | | Similar Products Used: | This is my first full suspension bike. pimped Trek 8500. | | Bike Setup: | Upgraded to Nevegal tubeless, Race X Lite carbon seat post and riser bar, Sram XO rear, XT front, Sram X9 shifters, Sram PC991 cross step chain, Sram PG990 cassette. Existing lock on grips, and WTB Rocket V Stealth saddle. | | Bottom Line: | Despite the weaknesses stated above, I love this bike. It climbs well and descends like a dream. It screams "ride me more!"
I had the shop swap the LX junk for XT junk. I should have known better than to give shimano another chance. Sram is so much better it's like night and day in my opinion.
This bike's strong points are definitely the descents. I carve lines at speeds I never thought I could do. I'm no racer by any means. I'm just a guy out having fun and that's what this bike does. It brings fun back to the ride and doesn't on back.
I think component spec could be a lot better. Who puts LX on a "Pro" labeled bike? The cassette is a throw away and the Juicy 7's require a lot of break in time to get rid of the annoying squeal. Take that for what it's worth. I had a Trek 8500 running all Sram stuff so my standard was pretty high.
Bottom line is this. If you're a guy like me who likes to go fast, have fun, but not a racer, this bike is for you. It's comfort, climbing and descending prowess due to the G2 geometry make this bike worth the dough. It's definitely the best bang for your buck.

$1500.00 | | Purchased At: | Brother who works at bike shop | | Strengths: | Great responsiveness to steering, acceleration, and braking. Plenty of adjustment possibility with suspension. | | Weaknesses: | Doesn't come with everything needed for tubeless. (not that big of a deal) | | Bike Setup: | Stock + XT front der and XT shifters | | Bottom Line: | Fantastic bike for XC riding, unbelievable in tight technical terrain. Responds like a dream to the slightest pedal pressure, accelerating like that's its job. Comfortable at high and low speeds, not jumpy, not sluggish.
With this bike, I can ride better, faster, and longer than any bike I've ridden. Money can't buy you love, but I love what I've bought with my money. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Michigan Date Reviewed: April 4, 2008 | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Color (if that matters). Component spec is solid at this price. FOX bits (RP23 and Float RLC). Reasonably light. Price was fair.
About the ride: The HIFI rides great. Fast acceleration. Reasonably plush suspension. I prefer my suspensions bikes to ride a little firmer and this bike doesn't disappoint. Steering is excellent...hard to describe how it is different, though. It is fast but not twitchy at all. It is stable but not sluggish. The bike loves the tight and twisty trails.
I also like tht Fisher has a nice rep for warranty. | | Weaknesses: | It's not good at just racing or just AM-type riding. It is a well-mannered fast XC bike...not really a weakness. I would've preferred SRAM derailleurs and shifters, but I must say that the Shimano shifting has been flawless and better than expected. Stock stem was short for my liking. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Stumpjumper Expert and Comp, Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC, Salsa Dos Niner, Fisher Rig, Giant Trance, Kona Explosif, blah blah blah. Basically, I think I've ridden enough bikes that I should know better. I'm still looking for the ONE bike. So far, the HIFI embodies all the qualities I've been searching for. | | Bike Setup: | Stock aside from tires. I swapped out to Hutchinson Bulldog tires. | | Bottom Line: | Very well-mannered, quick XC bike. Excels in tight and fast singletrack. Fit is just the right mix of XC and trail. The cockpit has yet to feel uncomfortable in any trail situation. The bike feels lively on the trail, and works with rider input. I haven't detected any flex in this frame.
Funny, I found myself pushing bigger gears on this bike than my other mountain bikes. It responds very well to pedal input, and makes the trail bumps and irregularities all but non-existent. It is not "plush", but I don't think it was designed to be. I didn't want "plush", I wanted "fastest, most comfortable over the widest variety of terrain." I got just that.
I've read many stories about Fisher frames being prone to cracking. All I can say is that I hope this is not the case with my HIFI. However, if it is, I trust that Fisher will remedy the situation.
I would buy the HIFI again. At this point, I'm just not convinced that the more expensive boutique brands are worth the extra cash. And, coming from horst link bikes, I don't notice any brake jack. If it is there, it hasn't effected my riding. I like the HIFI becuase it is so efficient, and doesn't squat under power like the Specialized bikes I've ridden.
In short, give the HIFI a try before you buy your next trailbike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I gave up trying to find some. From the first test ride, it just fit. I think the Fishers generally have longer top tubes, but it fits me well. I never tried the original Genesis geometry, but the G2 feels perfect. I turns really well going slow and is super stable at speed. I can finally keep up with my fast riding buddies on the uphills and the downhills. IMO, the HiFi is for someone looking for a light, relatively plush trail bike. from Northern Indiana Date Reviewed: December 31, 2007 | | Favoriate Trail: | Winona Lake | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Purchased At: | The Trailhouse | | Strengths: | The first time I sat on this bike it just felt right. The riding position is perfect for my body geometry with excellent balance and control. This bike is very light and does everything well (e.g. climb, descend, tight switchbacks). Compared to other similar priced products I felt it offered superior components, making it the best bang for the buck. | | Weaknesses: | Let me first say that I LOVE this bike and that any bike will require a little bit of “fussing with” to correctly dial it into your own style of riding.
Let’s start with the brakes (Avid Juicy 7). After I rode the bike for about a month the rear brakes began to get soft and fade. They also were squealing badly too. A quick trip to the bike shop and a no charge pad change and brake bleed seems to have corrected the problems. Does the brake pad contact adjustment even do anything??? Maybe I’m missing something, but I can’t tell any difference when using this feature.
Factory issue tires (Bontrager JonesXR) I felt were too soft and gave a squirmy feel, but I don’t base the purchase of a new bike on the tires. It’s only a matter of time before they are worn out and I reach for the Nanoraptors!
Minor issues with intermittent gear changes during suspension travel while seated and pedaling at the same time. I took the bike back to the shop and had them adjust the rear derailleur and it seems to be less frequent.
I have not figured out how to attach a rack to the back for panniers. This is more of an issue for me, obviously the bike was not designed to make six day self contained XC rides along the Continental Divide. I just love the bike so much that I really want to use it for my annual pilgrimage out West.
Lastly, I needed to cut about an inch off each bar end. I was tired of coming home with black and blue knuckles after my rides. I would normally enjoy the wider stance of the bars, but most of the trials I ride do not allow for such royalties.
| | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Epic | | Bike Setup: | Factory stock, no modifications yet other than cutting down the handlebars. | | Bottom Line: | Great value for the money compared with similar products. I rode Specialized Epic and Stumpjumper, Giant Anthem, Trek Fuel’s, and Jamis before I made the decision. Let’s face it, when spending this much money you want to be sure of what you are getting. This bike is fast and smooth with a great riding posture. it is excellent at climbing and downhills. This bike is great for anyone who is looking for a do everything bike, period. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$3300.00 | | Purchased At: | Probike, Bangkok, Thailand | | Strengths: | Lighter than it looks, very comfortable riding position and great for all day riding. Suspension works unnoticed and brakes are sweet. 2.25 Jones tyres perfect for jungle trails. | | Weaknesses: | Ugliest paint job i have ever seen, (dull, depressing grey). Propedal lever can be difficult to reach when the ground gets lumpy. | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale Team Scalpel, (5 years) | | Bike Setup: | Actually a deluxe frame, (shop did not have pro in my size), but they swapped all the components over from a larger pro frame. No modifications yet. | | Bottom Line: | I rode a 60 km trail that i regularly ride on my scalpel to see how much slower this heavier, longer travel bike would be. It was about 10 minutes slower but i felt great because the riding position is much more relaxed and allows me more aggressive moves. The thought the much wider tubeless jones tyres (normally use 1.8 semi slicks), would cause problems as i have heard so many bad things about them. They are great! I once had a squeak on the brakes after cleaning but only for 10 minutes. If you don't buy this bike, at least give it a try. I love it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Great component set, climbs awesome. Can already find some great deals at your LBS. | | Weaknesses: | A wee bit sluggish in turn-in, but best I've found yet on a 29er. Rear end likes to bob. MSRP is pricey. | | Similar Products Used: | Gary Fisher Supercaliber 29er | | Bike Setup: | 29er - bone stock + my Smarty Ti pedals. | | Bottom Line: | THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE HIFI PRO 29ER since MTBR doesn't have the 29er listed (yet).
This is my second ride on a 29er and I was very impressed. My first ride (Supercaliber) I was very disappointed - handling was lousy, and the geometry NEVER felt right. I jumped on the Hi-Fi and it fit - right away.
All the perks of a 29er are in true form - turns you into a hero over logrolls, rock gardens, and sketchy downhills. Motors over anything in its way, and carries sick amounts of speed. But the real surprise was how nimble this bike was. Lean it over in a fast corner and it grabs a handful. I could chuck it like a smaller 26" bike - really amazing. Suspension travel seemed endless. Climbing was a non-issue - the bike is light and geared well... forget you've got that monster wheel behind you. Incredibly stable at low speeds - I can actually trackstand with this bike in the rocks, and bunnyhop it easier than my 26" bike.
I'm looking to trade in my undersized Trek Fuel EX7 next year for a right-sized bike. This ride is making me seriously consider a full-sus 29er should be my "every-trail" bike - big wheels for a big guy. Being 6'4" does have its advantages.
Time to start filling the piggybank. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1500.00 | | Purchased At: | Alpine Ski Country | | Strengths: | This is my first cross country bike. I usually ride downhill, but I gotta say that this bike has opened my eyes to a whole nother side of biking. It climbs like a champ, takes corners well, handles every trail I've thrown at it. It's not overly agressive, but it's not a complete wimp either. It walks a fine line making it a true ALL mountain bike. Finally I love the way it takes large rollable rocks. The bike just seems to slither over the right kind of rock and it feels great. | | Weaknesses: | The bars are a bit weak, the tires need to be upgraded with some thorn resistent tubes, and the stock pedals I thought sucked, but none of those are hard fixes. | | Similar Products Used: | Moto lite | | Bike Setup: | Stock set up, but I upgrade the tires to some Kenda Nevegals, threw some bigger tubes in, and changed out the pedals for some Time Z's | | Bottom Line: | Buy it | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Athens, GA Date Reviewed: August 13, 2007 | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Purchased At: | @ The Hub Bikes | | Strengths: | Light weight, excellent handling, value, looks - pearl white with white fox fork. Overall fun-value. Most fun I've had on a bike. | | Weaknesses: | Ah, the tires, perhaps. Race lite saddle is not the most comfy I've ever ridden. Avid adapter for 8-inch rotor does not mate well with Fox post-mounts - there was actually a gap between the caliper washers and the adapter with the bolt all the way in (prob. made for Manitou) - but I fixed it with a fatter concave washer from an old set of V-brakes. Just look out for that on the '08s with larger front rotors. | | Similar Products Used: | Titus Racer-X, GF Paragon 29er, Specialized M2 hardtail | | Bike Setup: | Stock '08 bike - F120 RLC/Float RP23, racelite wheels/bits, XTR rear der. XT cranks, Juicy 7 w/ 8 inch rotor in front. Cut down riser by an inch and cut steerer a bit. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is a whole lot of fun. While I'm still testing it, I have to say that the "G2" concept seems to really work. This bike handles nearly as responsively as a racer-X, but is way better over rough stuff and down hills - the genesis geo. allows me to adequately weight the front wheel without ever feeling like I'm going over the bars. Climbs with confidence. Rear end isn't quite as 'plush' with shock open as some systems (eg. ellsworth, etc) but I bought this bike to do XC and longer endurance races, not fire-road tours. The suspension is plenty active and very laterally stiff, resists bobbing when on propedal but still remains active over gnarly stuff. Rockin' bike. I can't wait for my first 12 hour with the HiFi. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2500.00 | | Purchased At: | Velocipede Peddler | | Strengths: | Wonderful bike from GF. Climbs amazingly well, descends like a champ, and the shifting is butter smooth. A very good value for the money I believe. The Pro-Pedal is a great tool to aid in climbing but I have a great amount of fun flipping the lever open and bombing down hills. Very forgiving of poor line choice and oh yea, very light weight for a 5" travel bike. | | Weaknesses: | Stock tires are kind of lame. | | Similar Products Used: | 1998 Gary Fisher Big Sur 2001 Trek Fuel 98-converted to use disc brakes | | Bike Setup: | Stock except for tires. Front AND rear suspension lockouts! Race Lite Wheelset for quicker acceleration! Juicy 7's (mine don't squeal) with fine-tune dial! Did I mention it climbs well?!? | | Weaknesses: | perfect so far | | Similar Products Used: | HiFi DLX (was OK, but the crankset I rode was defective: chain-slip at least once every ride), Trek Fuel EX-8 (super-unstable and sloppy climber) | | Bike Setup: | Stock is fine | | Bottom Line: | SWEET climber: front end doesnt lift up (Try different stem lengths and rises)! Stable in turns, downhill, slow speeds. Feels light overall. I love the front AND rear shock lockout capability. Gary Fisher created a masterpiece! Im 6'0" and like the 21" frame: longer distance between handlebars and seatpost, and i set my saddle back as far as possible so i can really dig my arse back behind the saddle and crank out some MPH's (try it, much more efficient on the legs when your tibia bones are relieving some of the work from the muscles). $2550.00 | | Purchased At: | penn cycle | | Strengths: | Cranks are solid and very smooth. Ability switch to propedal turns bike into a true race feel while switching back to full float gives a plush ride with excellent handling. Rolling resistance on tires is noticably low. Brakes are awesome, if not perhaps too powerful. Looks like a piece of art hanging in the garage. | | Weaknesses: | Front suspension bobs a bit too much but handles well overall. Suggest a bit more air pressure than recommended in front shock and crank lockout dial up a bit. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Epic, Fisher Supercaliber 29er, Trek FuelEx | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | I did a ton of homework in search of a high-end versatile mountain bike that I could race with, yet also carry enough travel for more technical trails and freerides. I was very interested in the brain concept from specialized but generally unimpressed after my test ride with it. The supercaliber 29er was solid and rolled well on more open terrain but short on travel and handling for true singletrack. Enter the hifi pro with its unbelievable balance between race feel and plush bump-eating ability. Easily switch to propedal mode on rear shock and feel the race mode kick in. In my first few rides I've added about 3-4 mph to my average speed on local trails. This bike begs to be ridden often and ridden fast. It is 26 pounds and the G2 geometry is not a hype. I tested the trek 9.0 and the fisher, and the fisher is much more stable. | | Weaknesses: | I'm having a tough time with putting the rear shock in the pro-petal mode, but it may be user error or a product defect. I would rather have the Fox front fork, but beggers can't be choosers. | | Similar Products Used: | Blur LT, Turner Spot, Elsworth Epiphany, Trek Ex 9.0, Specialized FSR, Cannondale Prophet, | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | Bottom line, this is the best bike I have ever ridden. I have been out on two rides and I would have waited a bit longer to write the review when I had more feedback, but I greatly disagree with the previous poster. The HiFi Pro climbs and decends great. It is definatley not a "free-ride" bike, but if you want to do some aggressive XC riding the bike unbeatable. When I test rode the Trek EX 9.0, it was very "twitchy" at high speeds. $2000.00 | | Purchased At: | Extreme Ski and Bike | | Strengths: | Light, fast, efficient | | Weaknesses: | The maiden voyage didn't show anything negative. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek Liquid 55, Fuel EX7 | | Bike Setup: | Stock, but upgraded to Race X-Lite wheels. | | Bottom Line: | This is a first impression after 22 hard and fast miles on familiar trails. The Hifi pro lives up to the hype. It corners great, handles great, and pedals great. The only time I would use the ProPedal feature on the rear shock is on standing climbs and long smooth stretches, otherwise I really couldn't detect that suspension. I may use the Pro Pedal more if there was a handlebar switch, but to quickly switch it on/off and get the fork locked out before heading down after a climb was kind of a pain. I found that locking out the fork on climbs is all I really needed.
I originally thought I would miss the efficiency of my Klein Attitude, but one ride on the Hifi Pro removed that thought from my head. This bike is perfect for its intended usage, which I would list as aggressive XC or for 24 hour races. I love the way it climbs and handles. I set the pro pedal to 2 and leave it on most of the time. I love getting up and mashing big gears up hills the hifi doesnt mind though the RP23 does a great job of putting your power to the ground. I usually will lock out the fork on long climbs cuz it will soak up some of your power. It corners well and holds a steady line.
I'm gonna have to dock it 1 value chili for not giving me a couple of dollars worth of rimstrips/valve stems, and for the fork sticking. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I've never experienced. | | Weaknesses: | I can't afford it at this point. | | Similar Products Used: | GF Supercalibur, Trek Fuel EX, GF Sugar | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | If you're looking for a 5 inch travel, full suspension that rides and sprints like a true hardtail this is the perfect bike for you. It felt like the bike just started going on its own as soon as I got on. There is no sign that this bike is a full suspension when you're riding it and everything I've heard from my good friends at the shop tell me the same is true for it on the trail.
Gary Fisher has created the perfect bike with this one. They took the sugar design and corrected any problems that it had. The sugar never could turn very well for the trail bike that it was. The hifi turns like a uni-cycle. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
