It blows through rock gardens, blasts the rough, and takes drops in stride. I am positive that this has to do with a couple of things about the bike build and spec, namely: thru axles front and rear, the fox 36 up front, heavy wheels and tires, and the geometry angles when in the freeride position. Cannondale put all of these together and came up with a 4-cross/dh machine.
That said, this bike is a beast to pedal uphill. If you live in an area that requires you to pedal up before you can head down, then you may want to reconsider purchasing this bike. I took it on several trails, and always with the same result. The bike took so much to get uphill, that by the time I was ready to ride down, I was cooked. However, as I mentioned, the ride down was sweet!
Could you invest money to make this bike lighter? Yes. Would it be a wise investment? Maybe. For me it would not have been.
In addition, the thru axles, while making the ride very ridged, also required too much work to change out a flat. Also, with 140mm rear wheel travel coupled with the 150mm (160mm on the newer models) up front, made the bike unbalanced, in my opinion.
Cannondale discontinued this model for 2008, except in Europe.
If you bought this bike new off the showroom floor, you over paid. Cannondale's bikes are expensive. Thus the value rating. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Descending on this bike though is where it shines it unbelievable how stable and easy it is to control no matter what terrain its on. | | Weaknesses: | wheel set was way to heavy for doing any kind of xc style rides. Fixiks Saddle was numbing!!
Seat post clamp broke within 30 minutes of pulling the bike out of the box. The current setup weighs in just over 31 lbs, but with 6" that is pretty light. I climb fine and descend great. Plus I only have one pivot to worry about and that is perfect for someone like me. Since the seat clamp broke easily and the stock wheels weighed about 1.5 lbs more each I can only give it 4 chilis . | | Bottom Line: | What is not to love about this bike?...absolutely nothing! absolutely a perfect balanced bike, strong and still light...the fox dhx is an awsome shock...easy to adjust and pretty to look at too! Cannodale does a great job outfitting their bikes. It might cost a bit more but Cannondale tests and backs their products.
