Description:MOOTO-X You see things in a different and, well, bigger way. So you understand the enhanced traction, superb smoothness and flow-finding momentum offered by the Mooto-X’s 29-inch wheels. Over two decades of building custom frames helped us fine-tune the standard geometry of the Mooto-X for just the right balance of quickness and dependability. If you haven’t hopped on a 29-er, cowboy up on a Mooto-X and you’ll find the flow faster than ever. New for 2006 17-inch and 22-inch sizes.

I will just reiterate what all the other reviews have said. This bike is a piece of art. Beautifully crafted and engineered. The lines are clean and simple. It climbs like a dream and rides the flat like a speed demon. With the help and coaching of my LBS, I built this bike up myself (thanks, Charles!) so I got an up close and personal view of every part of this bike. It is awesome. The guys at Moots clearly take pride in each build. It shows!
Weaknesses:
If I ever find one I'll let you all know, but don't hold your breath.
Similar Products Used:
This is my first 29er. Previously rode an Epic Comp, decked out in SRAM X.0. I loved my Epic so my Moots had some big shoes (tires?) to fill.
Bike Setup:
SRAM X.0 rear D and shifters, XTR crankset and front D, Formula K24 brakes, Mavic C29SSMAX wheelset, Maxxis Ignitors, Chris King Pretty and Strong No Thread headset
Bottom Line:
I ride like a girl...'cause I am one. I am not the fastest hillclimber and so was a little hesitant to go 29, but then I met the Mooto-X. I now fly up stuff I couldn't clean before. It is amazing. I was also a little worried about handling as I was so used to my plush Epic. Well, gotta tell you, it took me one ride to get over my Epic and be an all Moots girl. The YBB combined with the 29" tires is all you need. It flows over the tech stuff and screams on the flats. I positively love this bike. Is it pricey? Sure but so are other high-end bikes. This one will never make you regret one penny spent on it.

A sheer beautiful piece of art, rides like a dream, the bike handles so well under all conditions. I think it can even move thru tight technical stuff about as well as a 26er, and if its rocky then even better.
Weaknesses:

Bottom Line:
This bike is in a class by itself. The moment I got on it I thought this is how a bike should feel, and even though it is not custom sizing, the ride is so smooth and even. I blasted downhill the other day and the thing just about floated, cornering is superb and it picks up speed way faster than my other 29er. I love to ride it and would recommend this bike to anyone who wants to stop buying and selling bikes, settle down and be happy now.

Rides the tech like a dream. Quiet, predictable, beautiful to look at. You just want to ride it. No full susp hassles. Feels like a great investment.
Weaknesses:
Not a full susp - so it is a bit slower going down rocky hills. But I'm old and going fast down is soo yesterday for me.

Bottom Line:
I love this bike. It is expensive, but the ride is so good that in five years you'll have ridden it so much you won't care. Handles incredibly on the single track, bumps up through any technical spots, and is very comfortable to ride. I feel confident on it. 29" wheels can be tough in the tight technical terrain, but this bike handles so well that it increases my confidence to try and ride everything in sight. I like the zero maintainance. I liket he predictable shifting. I like the quiet. My old 26" YBB I always felt a bit too pogo-ey, but this bike I feel no pogo effect. Riding a 20" with Moots laidback post: I am 6'2", 200#, 33" inseam. I ride steep hills in Colorado to punish myself for sins in a previous life.

where to begin...two areas I guess, first it's a 29er. these things fly up, down, and sideways. loves the technical uphills, sails down descents and the wheels just hook up on the corners, noticeably better than my Fuel. get it on flats or rolling terrain and it rips like jimi hendrix. Second, Moots, man these guys build a nice bike, sweet ride, the pivotless YBB suspension is perfect. Not as plush as 3" travel bike, but fast like a hardtail and once you get the rear tire pressure dialed it's a comfortable ride. I ride a 22" frame, I'm 6'4" with long legs, and it fits perfect. Initially I had the 20" and it was too small for me.
Weaknesses:
1 minor complaint after about 6 months of riding; When you're at just the right speed (like middle ring, middle of the cassette or faster) and take your hands off the bars, you'll get a death wobble thing going, sort of have grab the bars quick or it could get ugly. I run a Reba 80mm, I pumped up the shock a little to decrease the sag and the head tube angle, noticeably better. I think with a 100mm it might go away completely. It does this with cross tires or 2.1" tires. I've heard of this happening on my friends Niner also.
Similar Products Used:
First 29er, first Moots. I had a Fuel 100 for 5 years and a Cannondale F1000 for 5 years before that. Once I had this bike dialed in I sold ALL of my other bikes because I never wanted to ride them!...including my cross bike...will eventually need to get a second backup bike.
Bike Setup:
Race Face crank, DT240 hubs, salsa delgado rims, FSA carbon post and flat bars, Juicy 5 brakes, Sram trigger shifters (not quite as ergo/intuitive as XT but eventually they gel with your hands)
Bottom Line:
After doing a bunch of training and the first couple of races on this bike, I can say that Moots 29ers rip. I love the YBB suspension, I was hesitant at first and during the purchase, but so glad I went with it. Moots does some spectacular welds and you can tell they put their heart into these things. Well worth the extra $.

Bottom Line:
It rides so amazing. - I can bunny hop on it like nothing I have ever experienced - The front is so light. I almost ate it going off a curb cuz I expected it to take a bit to get the front up, I almost flipped over backwards. - The DT swiss hubs roll like butter and engage like a shark. - shifts like butter - The ybb, laid back post, and big ol wheels suck up every bump. It makes the old dual suspension feel like a rigid. Completely serious, I am amazed. - That reba is the fricking bomb, it floats like silk.
I can hardly describe how it feels on the trail. I was under the assumption that it would feel like a big wheeled bike, take more effort to turn and handle, and feel big. It is so responsive, it blows me away. I look like I am epeleptic on it. Every movement I make flows right thru the bike. It turns on a dime. I was literaly turning too sharp in the beginning, cutting corners too hard. It makes the GF double squishy seem like a barge.
I had to keep telling myself it is a 29′er, it felt just like my 26 inch bikes, no school bus action here. It is so light, it seems like I am riding a piece of styrofoam. It accelerates like nothing I have ever experienced, it is as if it pulls me along. I was rocking it, I can actually say I ride faster, it just goes.
So being titainum it does have a little flex to it. The front triangle is solid, the big tubes do their job. The rear stays do have some flex. it is so strange feeling it do its thing. it is like riding a solid piece of liquid metal (cannot describe). It hooks up so fricking sweet, I love the feeling.
Yeah it has good components, but the frame makes it what it is. It rides so fluid, handles so smooth. It completely destroyed all expectations I had. Nothing compares. I will own this until I die. I am completely blown away.

Light, stiff, fast and smooth. I'm 6'6' 250lbs. The 29er fits me great. It is soo stable. I'm not sure if it is the 29er or the Moots that corners so fast and smooth but it flies. It for sure goes fast. I was riding in St. George behind someone on their new Turner and had to keep breaking so I wouldn't run them over. They were a solid rider and I know it was the bike. Anyone over 6 ft. is throwing their money away if they are not getting a 29er. They are for sure here to stay.
Weaknesses:
It's a little harder to find the sweet spot when I ride a wheelie, but get serious. Who cares? This thing rules.
Similar Products Used:
Full XTR KHS hard tail but it was nothing like this. I also have a full XT Giant Trance that is nice but how do you leave a Moots sitting in the Garage?
Bike Setup:
22" frame with the YBB. Full XTR, but the wheels have King Hubs. 180 mm cranks.
Bottom Line:
After 8 hard rides the verdict is in: this bike is fast and smooth. The wheels roll over everything. When I ride a 26" bike I just laugh how small and silly bmxish it feels. I did ride Gooseberry Mesa on my Trance and had a blast but would've still preferred the Moots. The King hubs are soo sweet (stainless) I don't know what everyone is crying about. With the 180mm cranks I do a half peddle every now and then to miss a rock and they catch so much better than the XTR's. I love them. This bike was expensive, but I like to ride and when you amoritize the cost over a decade it is probably the cheapest bike you can own. It turns into about a nickel extra a ride. Just get your wallet out of your wifes purse and go get one. Let's ride. You will love it. Time is precious in these last days. The time to ride is NOW.
