from Whitehorse, YT, Canada Date Reviewed: August 26, 2008 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Spot-on geometry, strong sliding dropouts, light and stiff, looks great. | | Weaknesses: | No major ones. Minor issue is chain slap on a 1-speed setup, easily solved with a protector. | | Similar Products Used: | Surly Karate Monkey | | Bike Setup: | 21" raw aluminum Misfit, singlespeed, with Reba 29er fork | | Bottom Line: | Wow... I can't believe the difference this frame made in my climbing, cornering and technical downhill riding. If you look at my old XL Karate Monkey the numbers are similar but there is no comparison.
Everything just fell right into place and felt dialed from Day 1. I felt lower, faster and less cramped. My third ride on this bike was a tough 54 km XC race where I totally exceeded my expectations. Less than a week later I did the biggest ride of my life on a mountain bike.
This is a great frame, and at the price it is totally off the hook for value. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Santa Paula, Ca. USA Date Reviewed: August 18, 2008 | | Favorite Trail: | ones with dirt!!! | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Price Paid: |
$385.00 | | Purchased At: | Direct from Misfit | | Strengths: | Geometry is spot on! Well constructed! Very cost effective! | | Weaknesses: | I guess if there is a weakness, if you want to call it one, is the driveside chain-stay....I'm running a 32/17 SS gearing and when the chain become just slightly in need of adjustment, it wacks against the chain-stay. Peter, would be nicer if it was slightly lower! Other than that...none!!! | | Similar Products Used: | Is there any??? | | Bike Setup: | American Classic 29" wheel set, Fox 29" susp fork w/ lock-out, Mr. Whirly 180 cranks, Avid Ultimate brakes, FSA OS115 stem, Easton CF seatpost (latest edition), Easton CF bars, IRD tires (I like!) My first bike without a single Shimano part on it!!! | | Bottom Line: | I got into riding single speeds about 2 years ago....basically from pier pressure! I started out by converting my 26" Cove Hummer XC into a SS (great handling bike by the way). Road it up until about 8 months ago and finally broke down and got a 29er SS; the dissent. All I can come up with, without writting a book, is.....absolutely awesome!!! It rolls over stuff like no 26" wheel can do, corners better, stops better, is super stable when pointed down hill, looks like no other, and is sold at a price that is wwwwwway too reasonable! Anyone looking at a 29" frame should certainly consider the dissent!!! I know I love mine....thanks Peter! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Dundas, Ontario Date Reviewed: August 13, 2008 | | Favorite Trail: | Puslinch | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Purchased At: | Direct | | Strengths: | As a 5'4" girl, I resisted getting a 29er. I had previously struggled with bikes that were too big for me and I was convinced a 29er would be unwieldy. Boy, was I wrong. I tried a demo at the weekly race series and got in a third lap, where I'd only ever fit in two before. It climbed nimbly, but above all, it was incredibly stable. It gave me huge confidence on corners, whether tight singletrack turns or swooping at speed. I was sold! Since I got the bike, I've been consistently faster. I did the Buckwallow Ontario Cup race on a KHS Solo-One last year in 1:33. This year on the Misfit, my time was 1:02. I love this bike. | | Bike Setup: | Small frame, gold build, Cane Creek wheelset, White fluid fork. | | Bottom Line: | This is a fun, fast, confidence-inspiring bicycle. It's really fun to ride over obstacles, through tight singletrack and up hills. I'm tiny, yet I feel perfectly comfortable and stable between those two big wheels (I credit the bent top tube). I trust this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1500.00 | | Purchased At: | Direct | | Strengths: | Best 29er geometry on the market. Super stable yet turny as heck. Climbs like a skinny Columbian. Dead easy to build and service. | | Weaknesses: | Nope. | | Similar Products Used: | Trick question; nothing is similar. | | Bike Setup: | Fun bike: Black and Chrome.
Race bike: Yellow and Carbon. | | Bottom Line: | I bought my first diSSent two years ago and loved it so much, I bought a second one just to race the TransRockies (ran it as a 1x9). I can be found riding a diSSent on anything from a Tuesday night sprint to a multi-day stage race to a fun roll around Hydrocut. It's my go-to bike for all off-road occasions. In terms of Smiles/$, nothing on the market even comes close! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1800.00 | | Purchased At: | Misfit Psycle Store | | Strengths: | Light, fast, bomb-proof, unique anywhere except at the Tuesday night race series, Misfit Fubar handlebar | | Weaknesses: | Increased competition in the "singlespeed open race category" | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale 1FG Headshok | | Bike Setup: | WTB Laserdisc rims, White Industries Eno crank, rings and cogset, WTB Exiwolf/nanoraptor tires, Avid DB7 discs, Misfit's very own stem, bar (awesome) and seatpost, eggbeaters, cane creek S3 headseat, Phil Wood BB | | Bottom Line: | Having ridden a 26" singlespeed for 3-4 seasons, I can tell y'all that after a half season on the Misfit Dissent:
a. 29" wheels with a rigid fork are the way to go;
b. My 27 speed full-suspension rig is feeling very, very neglected.
The dissent combines the monster-truck ability of the 29er to roll over everything in its path, and, because of the bent top-tube and geometry, low standover height and outstanding handling when in the tight stuff. And built up with bomb-proof parts, it still weighs in under 22lb with pedals.
The bike is also very versatile. I have, on occasion, put cyclocross tires and a 38t chainring on the bike for early season road training, commuting and cyclocross-type races. Half an hour of tinkering later, I have have a fat-tired all-mountain beast. The chain tension is kept by sliding rear dropouts, which allows the rider to switch gear rations quickly and easily depending on the type of ride (or in my case, the refusal of the rider to train).
I also have to mention the Misfit Fubar, which is an option on this bike's complete build - it is a rather curious-looking back-swept handlebar which is ideal for singlespeed use, as it provides great leverage for climbs (By the way, did I mention the bike climbs like a p***ed off ape?)
And finally, the outstanding customer service from the Misfit Psycles Corporation is the cherry on top of the sundae.
All in all, the most inexpensive and fun bike I have owned since the Raleigh Chopper I tooled around on when I was a kid. Five flamin' chillies (and the bike is pretty good too) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$350.00 | | Purchased At: | Misfit Psycles | | Strengths: | Wonderful geometry, felt great from the get-go. Took me very little time to adjust to the bike. Bent top-tube for low stand-over height is a great feature. Frameset is lightweight and the sliding dropout system works well, no slipping. | | Similar Products Used: | Karate Monkey, Zion 737EBB | | Bike Setup: | 17" Misfit Psycles DiSSent frameset, White Brothers Rock Solid Rigid 29er fork, Salsa ProMoto bars, Hope Pro 2/Stans ZTR 355 29er wheels, Marta SL brakes | | Bottom Line: | This is the nicest 29er I have ridden. I feel like I am harnessed in-between the wheels yet the bikes handling feels really snappy and quick. This bike just doesn't have the clunky feeling that many 29ers have!
I would normally be the first to say its the rider not the bike, but I feel way faster on my Misfit! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Toronto Date Reviewed: June 20, 2008 | | Favorite Trail: | Hydrocut | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Purchased At: | Misfit Psylces (sort | | Strengths: | climbing; stability; sliding dropouts are great for adjusting chain tension | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | I9s w/Stans, FSA stem, syncros bar, stock everywhere else | | Bottom Line: | I won this bike in a draw at a 24 event (donated by Misfit Psycles), so no real down side for me. It was my first journey into SS or 29 and I'm sold. I've got better bike control now, and I'm trying things that I only looked at before. Rode it for a season stock and had a blast.
Kudo's to Peter @ Misfit. He patiently answered questions I had and even let me exchange the original frame for smaller one that fit me. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$350.00 | | Purchased At: | Misfitpsycles | | Strengths: | Fantastic climbing and cornering geometry, light, very tough so far (you should see the welds on this thing!) and very cool looking (mine is Raw)! You can't go wrong with skulls on a machine like this. Very reasonable price. I would recommend it for any level of SS 29er rider. | | Weaknesses: | I haven't found any yet. I'll update my review if I do. | | Similar Products Used: | Gary Fisher Rig, Specialized Epic, ancient Trek 7000 | | Bike Setup: | Phil Wood hubs and BB, White industries drive train, Egg Beater Ti pedals, WTB speed-disk rims, Chris King headset, Avid Juicy 7 brakes, Thomson stem and seat post, and stock DiSSent rigid fork. | | Bottom Line: | I have done about a dozen rides on this bike now. I wouldn't want to take too much away from the Rig, as it too is an excellent 29er for the money, but the DiSSent absolutely rocks! A lot of care was put into the angles, to make it 29-specific, and it really puts me in the driver's seat. The geometry allows you to sit a bit lower on the big dos-niner wheels and have total control in tight turns. As mentioned earlier, it climbs like a goat (in and out of the saddle). Also, Peter at Misfitpsycles has been very helpful, knowledgeable and willing to take time to answer all of my questions. He built a wheel-set for me over 2 years ago with Phil Wood Kiss-off hubs and WTB Speed-disks. It is still bomb proof after over 2 years of constant, heavy abuse on rocky southwest singletrack. The Misfit DiSSent will not diSSapoint. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
