Date Reviewed: March 11, 2008
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $65.00
Strengths:very affordable fork w/ LO function, sturdy, well-made
Weaknesses:pre-load adjustment has minimal effect; weight is a bit on the heavy side compared to similar XC forks
Similar Products Used:RST Gila, RST Capa, RST281XL, GTS Alpha, Rockshox Dart 3
Bike Setup:KHS Alite 500 frame, Shimano drivetrain, Mavic 223 w/ Continental 2.1 tires
Bottom Line:This is a good fork for XC and commuting. It handles bumps, humps and light to moderate terrain well. It is not as stiff as the other forks I've tried, which is good for the kind of riding I do. Lockout is really good for uphill cycling because it improves speed and saves your energy. It's low maintenance to the point that it's an install and forget fork. It does the job which it is made for. This means that you should not use it for anything more than XC. No to drops more than 3ft. I highly recommend this fork for the budget-conscious and for riders who do not compete but use their bikes mainly for health and fitness. 5 chilis for value for money, 4 chilis for overall performance as an XC fork.
