from Leeds Date Reviewed: February 4, 2008 | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Purchased At: | Edinburgh Cycles | | Strengths: | - Erm, nice colour (black) - Lockout - They seemed quite nice when new | | Weaknesses: | - Front wheel flexes to one side when breaking, only solution is to have QR extremely tight. - Don't like mud or water (it ends up inside the fork) - Don't like cold (they seem to stiffen/seize) - Bottom out too easily - Pre-load adjustment was seized from new - Have now been rebuilt twice, and I've only used the bike 30-40 times. | | Similar Products Used: | None - I'm new to mountain biking | | Bike Setup: | Commencal Combi Disc Hyd 2007 | | Bottom Line: | I guess these are just cheap forks that allow bike to be sold at a price point. They're probably fine for light XC, or taking the kids along the canal towpath. Maybe I just got a bad set, however I know for a fact the problems listed affect others too.
If you buy a bike with these, and you're planning to be out in harsh conditions then from personal experience I'd expect to be upgrading them at some point. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$55.00 | | Purchased At: | Cartimar (coolest place to hunt for bike parts) | | Strengths: | I have the 120mm travel year 2007 version. Most of the XCRs that came out in my country are 100mm. Lucky i found a 120mm which is really rare. Nice color and design. Lite but durable. With its 120mm travel and adjusting the knobs correctly i can do less than 6 feet jumps. This fork has smooth rebound and absorbs 3 inch bumps really nice. I usually use it for XC, downhill and sometimes since its lite i also do freeride with this kick ass fork. I use to have a Manitou Axel, after a month of use it became so slugish. Now i'm trying the XCR and i am very satified its cheap on the pocket. | | Weaknesses: | None yet. | | Similar Products Used: | Manitou Axel elite | | Bike Setup: | Cloned K2 aluminum frame, Shimano Deore XT hubs, XT front & rear derailleurs, Deore Shift lever & break levers, XT V breaks, Deore cassette, Alex Rims, Kenda Cortez 2.4 tires, Zoom saddle post, FSA stem, FSA headset and spacers, FSA handlebar, FSA crankset. | | Bottom Line: | This fork rules! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | > Nice color scheme since its all black. > Bargain price without sacrificing performance. > Can take up some beating... the stickers showed not for DJ but had used mine without probs... but I only take at least 5ft air on this fork. | | Weaknesses: | > None so far as long as you tuned it right... had adjusted the pre-load knobs on both legs at 4 turns a piece. Now, it feels great. | | Similar Products Used: | > SR Suntour XCP... had used this fork before on trail fork and dirt jumping. I even raced it on a local downhill competition and won 2nd place. | | Bike Setup: | > Installed this XCR on my single speed... frame is Vision (pearl white), gear ratio: 36x16T, braking system: Shimano Deore hydros, rims: Sumo Husky DH, hubs: Formula, control system: Amoeba scud, drive train: Da bomb, pedals: Shimano PD-M424, tires: Kenda Koyote 1.95 (front & rear specific). | | Bottom Line: | Buy this fork if you're on a tight budget. Surely, it will never let you down. But if your serious about performance, try to look elsewhere... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Philippines Date Reviewed: February 4, 2007 | | Favoriate Trail: | any... as long as it rocks! | | Duration Product Used: | Tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | Strengths....? Cheap.. looks good... | | Weaknesses: | black color fades out at the stanchions, don't abuse to much.. can't handle extreme rough trail. | | Similar Products Used: | Suntour products...
| | Bike Setup: | xc, slalom, freeride.. | | Bottom Line: | Good for a beginner cause it's cheap. You MUST not try to drop 4 or 5 feet for some obvious reasons, especially xc riders, unless you have no other choice. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
