I brought the fork to the Marz tent at the sea otter in 07 and they did a rebuild of the fork and had me swap out one of the stock springs for a heavy spring. This changed the sag of the fork and the spring rate and allowed me to run less compression damping and still not bottom the fork too easy. It now rides much plusher and takes small bumps way better than before. I can now ride high speed trails and the fork tracks better and I can still do big drops and the landings are like butter.
So now I am happy with my fork finally but it's really a shame that it took so long to get it right. Marz is seriously lacking in the setup guide/ manual department. It should not be so hard to get a fork setup right. And to top it all off they do not sell single springs so I had to buy 2 heavy springs and have one just laying around.

It has taken numerous drops to flat as well as gaps in excess of 35ft and still it craves more. The only real downside I could forsee is the adjustments are fairly intimidating at first as there are so many, but as soon as you find the right setting their golden. I really don't know what this "simon huckster" person is talking about. If he really knew what he was talking about he would realize that the 888 is a STRONGER fork than a boxxer. Boxxers are intended for racing (DH) hence their lighter weight and realtively slimer build (32mm stanchions, slim crowns, thinner lowers, and use air in some models) By the way there have been many reported cases of boxxers snapping as their lowers are realitively thin as they are not intended for purely freeride. 888's however are built for freeride which is why they are realitively heavy when compared to the boxxers (35mm stanchions, beefy crowns, coil sprung etc..) This fork has been designed and made for hucking. If you want a fork that will take a beating and then some while staying in one piece this is the fork for you. I rode Tamarack again this weekend and adjusted the fork to the terrain, no problem. I weigh 210 lbs and have the stock springs in it, still perfect.
If you are leaning on the fence and trying to decide which fork to buy this is the 1 without a question.
I was a marzocchi hater till I decided to ride it and give it a shot, figured at what I payed i could sell it and not lose a dime.

I have been making small tweaks to the compression settings to try and fix this but now I am bottoming the fork on big drops. It goes on and on. I really wish marz would give you more setup info in the manual. Something like "if you're 200lbs and do big drops, then set the oil level to this and turn the rebound three clicks from full out, etc" For as much money as we pay for these things it seems a small favor to ask. I am still not happy with this fork but I am pretty sure if I stick with it I can get it to behave right. At least they got rid of the goofy air preload that my Z150 had. The RX2x system is awesome. So good that for heavier riders, you dont have to put new spring in it. You just lean over and turn the adjuster on the bottom of the right leg, a few clicks, and bingo...you just made the fork feel like you put heavier springs in it.
This fork is highly adjustable. You can make it feel EXACTLY how you want, in a matter of seconds. No more bombing through the first 4 inches of travel if you dont want to. No more opening the fork up and adjusting the C clip for preload. You can do that externally now.
The rebound probably works better than last years...its more sensitive. It seemed on last years model, there were really only 7 or 8 clicks of adjustment (even though there was 22 clicks). It seems on this years you can really get a good 15 clicks of adjustment. More refined!
The 04/05 888 was an awesome fork, however this year, they have rasied the bar, a couple of notches. It really is the perfect fork. I highly recommend it. Dont spend an additional $400 and get the Fox. This does everything the fox does, and has the great zoke feel.
