This fork has given me confidence in air forks. | | Weaknesses: | The IT Adjust is useless. It drops the bike so low my pedals hit the ground climbing on rough terrain, changes the geometry too much, and bottoms out too easily (an ugly feeling even when you're climbing. Lockout is a much simpler, more reliable, and functional option for climbers that designers should use.
I'd accidentally bump the "golden spoon" while riding, causing me to suddenly loose all my travel. For above reasons, I just lopped the thing off, but I've been finding lately (I've owned it ~1 yr now) that it "auto-adjusts" on its own occasionally, and I have to pull the (now stumpy) cable to bring it back to full extension. | | Similar Products Used: | Marzocchi Drop Off, Monster T, Rock Shox Psylo | | Bottom Line: | I got this fork on clear-out for about $300 CAN, which was a ripping deal that I couldn't turn down. It's held up under a lot of abuse (Remember folks, this fork wasn't designed for Whistler Downhill), and never bottoms out when set up properly. This wasn't anything extreme, just blues and greens at Keystone. I would be riding down some trails and notice that my fork had reduced itself all the way down to nearly no travel several times that day. It could be dangerous. Now I can't even hit little bumps without it leaking. Will have to have it fixed by Manitou, then I'm definitely selling the fork and getting an AM1 or another more abuse-worthy fork. rebound and compression are big help on fine tuning. excellent for all mountain set-up. TPC DAMPING!!! (best ever IMO) | | Weaknesses: | still have those bumpers that limit travel to about 135mm no clue when manitou will get it together and make the real upgrade kit to give the full 145mm travel | | Similar Products Used: | manitou minute 2:00 | | Bike Setup: | santa cruz heckler with all the goodies. | | Bottom Line: | i opted for this over the platinum (i hate spv forks... backward technology IMO). i'm real happy with it so far i haven't had the need for the full 145mm travel its supposed to have (and i've done some gnarly technical stuff already). its plenty stiff and faily light. Moves like a coil shock on the dh runs and is just a real sweet fork.
i got this off a bike set so its an oem fork and it was sold ridiculously cheap. i wouldn't pay the aftermarket price for this fork right now though since manitou still hasn't come up with the permanent fix for their "blunder". but by my guess when they do figure out the permanent fix its going to be worth every single penny. its smooth and as burly as a sherman but without the weight, fantastic for long travel trailbikes.
i'm going to give 3 chilis for value since its pretty expensive and there still isn't any permanent fix for the "tire clearance upgrade" issue

So you can do any uphill - only yours fitness is a limit. However "the golden spoon" looks awfull and doesn't work that easy. You will need a powerfull thumb. Maybe the golden housing isn't perfect? To shorten the fork you need just to press the spoon - fork will drop instantly. No hard pressing of the handlebars like with ETA or ECC. Moreover it compresses completely. No good, this change geometry so much that it is hard to pedal. You need to adjust yours muscles to work efficiently in such a position. On the top of a hill you have to maka wheelie or manual to adjust the fork for downhill. I prefer ETA for that pourpose.
Nixon Super is quite progressive during travel you can feel it is air fork but it is still one of the best of them Not like Z1 SL '03. Coils rules so maybe I should check out Elite? Still it is nice on small bumps it is active and plush but at the end of the travel you you know where are the limits.
I would like this fork more if it has 145 mm of travel instead 130 I'm 74 kg and I could not compress it more. No matter how high are the drops I can land my front whel first and feel the rubber cusions at the end. There is big black dial on the fork, the cheap sticker says Compression, but I'll pay for yours lunch if you can really feel any difference. No matter how much the fork compress, how fast you ride how you want to adjust that stupid dial. Reboud is totally different very precise and efficient.
