Date Reviewed: April 13, 2008
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:friend
Strengths:surprisingly tough

smooth action

stiff, the way I like it
Weaknesses:lack of adjustment

not much progression and sensitivity
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi DJ 2
Bike Setup:DH/FR SS hardtail.
Bottom Line:I got it used from my friend, who has been abusing it for a few months. Yeah, its no 66, but it is very much to my liking. My friend set it up very stiff, and I was concerned at first that it might tear my wrists off, but when I pushed it, there was a surprisingly plush action, especially in fast stutter bumps and rock strewn trails. FR is a breeze, the fork soaking up landings wery well. Once my favorite stair gap is opened again I'm going to hit it.

A drawback is the lack of sheer sensitivity, and the lack of adjustment, but I grew to like the stiffness and heck, its a OE fork.

Yeah its cheap, but bang for the buck, its second to none.

Strengths:very plush and soft, just how i like it for dj and freeride. metal parts, very sturdy.
Weaknesses:a little noisy, and comes soft. i had to get it stiffened once.
Similar Products Used:manitou splice comp, manitou stance
Bottom Line:I reccomend this fork for freeride and djing. okay for a little downhilling, but no huge stuff. its definitely worth buying if you're into freeride, but i dont recommend it for huge dj's, downhilling, and xc.

Submitted by MarioB a Downhiller from Krk,Croatia
Date Reviewed: August 3, 2007
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $300.00
Strengths:Quick, 150mm traveler, solid made
Weaknesses:non-20mm drop-outs (standard 10mm drop-out), it has ~10mm dead travel, to loud, lack of adjustments
Bike Setup:Brave 66frame, sunrims doubletrack, shaman racing, hayes9 8"
Bottom Line:Don't expect too much, good fork for start, really bad for serious ride. I'm hoping to change it soon for 66, or Pike, the best thing only is 150 of traveler, besides that nothing... it reacts quick but sometimes it's to easy to bottom, especially on higher jumps or bigger rocks on high speed.
As I sad, ok fork for start, but think of replacing it in one year.

Favorite Trail:Widow Maker
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:With Bighit at Bicycle Village
Strengths:Great looks and good feel, does great on minor FR trails and decent sized urban drops.
Weaknesses:Lack of adjustability
Similar Products Used:Anything from Judy Sl to Super T's and Boxxer's
Bike Setup:Big Hit, Race Face/XT/Hayes/Sunringle
Bottom Line:I bought it with the low end Specialized Big Hit just to ride light FR, DJ, and urban assault. So far it has held up great, good plush feel on the dirt, but doesn't soak up much pedal and pumping power. I have also taken some pretty aggressive climbs, so not too ridiculous for and XC/FR hybrid rider. For what I wanted out of it, a great fork!

Favorite Trail:Schleyer - Whistler
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Came OEM Ibex Bikes Direct
Strengths:Stiff, 5inches(130mm) of travel. 20mm through axle. can be made very plush (I only recommend with the 110+mm models) pretty burly, can use the Marzocchi integrated fender. looks like its big brother, the Z.1
Weaknesses:SSV dampening. People give this fork a hard time because of it, it does have little to no adjustability. only one side air preload, other side rebound. It's quite spiky and is a little harsh on your wrists. its also very noisy
Similar Products Used:Stance Sereis, Z.1, revelation.
Bike Setup:2004 Specialized P.2, hussefelt cranks/bars/stem. Kona Jacksh!t pedals, 05 Dropoff Comp 130mm travel 20mm through axle fork, loco wheels, holy roller tires.
Bottom Line:Its an okay fork. it doesnt really bother me, think about it though, the JR T and 66VF are both SSV and SSVF dampening. this fork is just a little less beefy than the 66VF and in my experience, is a more controlled fork. its not a really good fork for DH or even harsh freeride. its more an AM/DJ fork. I run mine pretty plush, around 30% sag. mine is a hard version to find. being 130mm and with 20mm through axle. if the fork comes on your bike, keep it around. its a good backup fork or it also makes a pretty decent AM fork in any of the travel settings. Keep in mind, this fork is very loud on the trail. and the dampening is kind of chunky feeling. try to find something like a stance flow. it has much better dampening and also has travel adjust and rebound adjust. I moved onto a stance flow, and now keep this around as a backup.

Strengths:Good travel & soft landings
Weaknesses:Heavy
Bike Setup:2005 Rockhopper Pro Disc with A1 frame, Marzocchi Drop off fork
Bottom Line:This is my first real fork that came with my Rockhopper and so far for cross country and moderate dirt jumping below 5 feet they are handling quite well. Still trying to find the right air pressure for a good stiffness and give ratio for trail riding and jumping. I have made some hard landings with no problems or any leaks. The only down side I have seen thus far is the weight. Very solid fork! I would suggest buying.

Purchased At:NE Cyclery
Strengths:Very strong design. Has Disc mount. Air Preload. Oil dampening.
Weaknesses:Heavy. No dampening adjustment (besides lighter/thicker oil).
Similar Products Used:Rockshox Tora 302
Bike Setup:Giant STP1, mostly stock.
Bottom Line:This is an excellent shock. It is not for downhilling, or extreme freeride, but for dirt jumping, urban riding, and drops less that 7 feet, it's excellent. It is holding up GREAT. The air preload is sweet, if you want travel, dump the preload, if you need to hit bigger drops, up the pressure. This fork is right for moderate to advanced riders for the appropriate riding.

Strengths:NONE!!!
Weaknesses:Heavy, no adjustment besides air preload, damping is CRAP, NOT plush, sucky squishy sound, flexy, quick release, no good for big hits
Similar Products Used:06 Marzocchi 66 SL
Bike Setup:05 Coiler Frame, 06 Marzocchi 66SL, 07 DHX 5.0 Coil, Mavic DeeMax front wheel, Mavic 819 UST rim w/XT hub, Contentinal Diesel Front tire, Michallin DH 24 AT rear tire, XT Derailleurs, XT Shifters, AHeadset, E13 DRS Chain Guide, LX Cranks, Shimano Clipless Pedals
Bottom Line:DONT BUY THIS FORK! Save your money and buy a higher end fork like a Marzocchi 66. Dont fool yourself into thinking the Dropoff is a good shock, because it is the bottom of the barrel. Once you have ridden something that is actually decent, there is no going back. So, take it from one who has ridden one extensively...DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

Favorite Trail:Lots..
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Friend
Strengths:Strong, burly crown, good for moderate freeriding, can handle 9 - 10 foot drops, cheap and superior compared many other forks in this price range, look cool in flat black, perfect upgrade as an affordable FR rated fork.
Weaknesses:Only real weakness for me is the lack of adjustment on the go. But at least theres less to break as with the stance flow I used to have which had adjustments that broke and didn't work.
Similar Products Used:Stance flow, Dirt jumper, Drop Off triple (also works good)
Bike Setup:Norco manic with raceface stem, handle bars, cranks and BB, Sram, Avid juicy 5 brakes, mavic 325s, maxxis DH tires and Drop offs or Jr T.
Bottom Line:These forks are performing really well. I mean for the price I payed they work awesome! I switch between a Jr T 20mm DC and these regular QR SC forks on my bike for different types of riding and theres little difference in performance..other than travel and adjustment, I also like to use the single crown for Fr/Dj. The bottom line is that these forks are much better than people say they are..unless you have lots of money or are a poser and just get "better" forks to show off than these are a great buy!

To be fair they're not meant for extreme riding either, they're are meant for moderate freeride. I do moderate/advance freeriding and havn't had a problem yet. I heard you can also put Z1 internals in this fork because it's basically the same. Go and buy one!!!

Weaknesses:Paint chips off easily, weak ass fork, very little or no adjustibility etc.
Similar Products Used:exr pro, 66 vf
Bottom Line:After jumping 3, yes 3, stairs, it lost all pressure, and oil leaked everywhere. I got it fixed the next day, and not even a week after the exact same thing happened. Bottom Line:This in regards to Todd's review below-- Firstly, this is a fine fork for the money, and for $200 dollars or less for a tight OE fork is unheard of. Second, if this fork 'blew-up' after however long Re-Todd took to destroy it, he is a poor rider. A suspension fork is not an open invitation to raise hell. You have to be a SMOOTH rider first, and then suspension will make you more gifted/fast/agile. I rode full rigid for YEARS. My fork is just takng out the hits which I cannot escape with body english and old fashioned skill. The pool lad who dissed this fork and, uh, 'God' probably dreams of riding off the roof of his girlfriends house. Dude should tighten up- you can spend $2000 for a fork and if a $200 fork was under you on the trails does this mean it's party time with anyone and everyone? Not even, and that proves you must use your head. That fork left the shop under your discretion, fella. That you mangled it up is your own damned fault.
James 6'/205lbs/leg press max set of 850lbs x10. Peace.

Bottom Line:This is my first suspension-fork bike. The OE Splice was good to get a feel. I'm 6' & 205lbs. I am happy with this 130mm fork and don't have it's settings maxxed out either. My friend at Chuck's set the compression and rebound, and I just have the preload at 15lbs or so and the air assist at about 40-45lbs. It's more than capable for trails and related decents.
