from Oregon City Date Reviewed: May 1, 2007 | | Favoriate Trail: | 5mile butte | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Purchased At: | REI | | Strengths: | It is a very good entry level suspension fork if you have it set up right for you. It takes bumps in trails very well. I have never had it bottom out on me after I set it up for my weight. | | Weaknesses: | There is non really. I'm a bike tech and I have worked on suspension a lot and a lot of the bad reviews on this product are simply adjustments that need to be made internally, take it to a bike shop let them take a look. Also some are improper usage this is mainly for single track trails and light jumping otherwise you will blow it up and risk hurting yourself. | | Similar Products Used: | Rock shock | | Bike Setup: | k2 zed 3.0 frame , Hayes hydraulic disk brakes | | Bottom Line: | Good entry level suspension that if you find yourself wanting to take bigger jumps and ride harder trails you should upgrade your fork | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

You'll need gloves to get a grip. | | Similar Products Used: | Rock Shoxx JUDY II, INDY C | | Bike Setup: | Raleigh M80(don't buy) | | Bottom Line: | This is a horrible shock even for a entry level shock. It came stock on my bike and I should have chucked it in the garbage first thing. The shock bottoms out when you sit on the bike. I'm not the lightest rider but I'm for damn sure not the heaviest. The shock sucks if your thinking of buying the shock by itself forget about it. Save your money and get a better quality shock (Rock Shoxx. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Fine for trails and small jumps. | | Weaknesses: | its soooo soft and bottoms so easy and I'm only 135lbs | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | Giant Iguana Disc '04, Deore comps., | | Bottom Line: | It's so soft that I lose about two inches just sitting on it. I took it off a bout 5 foot drop landing right but it popped the soft/stiff screw on top right off. It still screws in but I can't set it anymore. It was even on the 100mm setting. It is hard to change the travel setting. It has always worked great on trails since its soft and soaks up most everything. Great bang for your your buck but definetly not meant for big drops. It has started me out great. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I have it set on hardest and still it is sooo soft. you can bottom it out easily by pressing down hard enough. | | Similar Products Used: | i dunno i havent riden too many 80mm forks | | Bike Setup: | giant iguana, manitou black, 8" front rotor, shorter stem | | Bottom Line: | If you are looking for a high performance fork and you were considering the manitou six, ew ur stupid. this thing is by far the softest fork in i have ever ridden. The good thing is that it soaks up lots of bumps and stuff on the trail. its way to soft for freeride and even a bit soft for XC. It is as if the springs ( if there r any i dont know ) r made of butter. Its possible that you can fix it but will always be a low end 80 mm fork. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It's not bad and has held up to what I've thrown at it. It comes really soft from the factory so get it stiffened up. Even now though, with my 180lb weight, if I push down hard enough, I can bottom the fork out. The fork; however, is a good fork. There are better forks out there but for the price that I've seen, it does the job well.
I'm not a free-rider and don't plan to take it off 6 foot drops. The furthest I've gone was on a trail from a rock which was about 4 feet high. But I landed tail first so it was all good. This fork isn't for 6 foot jumps but does a great job for me on very technical trails and the occasional medium-height freefall | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

a Cross Country Rider
from Germantown, MD Date Reviewed: August 24, 2004 | | Favoriate Trail: | Schaeffer Farm | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Cheap. For the price, the quality is all you can expect. It does what a beginner shock is designed to do: travel. It goes up and down. For minor occurances the shock has no problems. | | Weaknesses: | I had no problems with the fork for the first 8 months. After that, I began to notice that it just didn't really "soak up" the bumps and roots as well as it used to. As a result, I began to feel my rides for a lot longer than i wished. The insides of my arms (lower biceps) would continually ache from the lack of smoothness in the shock. You will feel a majority of the trail, especially real rocky ones. Despite my pains from the degrading quality of the shock, i continue to ride it until my new FS comes along. | | Bike Setup: | 2003 Giant Iguana Disc w/ TIME ATAC XS pedals and Mythos XC tires. Bar ends also added along with new grips. Not worth upgrading anything else yet. | | Bottom Line: | If you are going to be an agressive rider, do NOT use this shock. You will be very disapointed. In 8 months i practically blew out the shock, and it was only on moderate trails as well. I have little adjustability left and i swear that my arms are still doing most of the work. But if budget is not on your side, and you are just beginning to get into this sport, this shock is perfect. As you start to progress into racing or just more treacherous trails, shy away from this fork. Something with a little smoother suspension will give you a much smoother ride (suprise) and as a result your bike will take less abuse. And this will help in the long run as well.
I gave teh fork a 4 for value because it is a beginner fork. So if your bike comes with it, its probably not a bad deal. But i wouldn't go out of my way to look for a bike with this particular fork on it. Overall, i gave it a three. Even though i despise teh fork for its short life, i did ride agressively and i think a tamer rider would get a longer riding time with it. Hope this helped. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

This really is a decent fork, but II disagree w/ the previous review in saying that this fork feels like higher quality forks. It feels nothing like a fox of even the Judy TT on my sisters bike, the Judy is stiffer and more linear | | Similar Products Used: | none, first suspension of any kind on an mtb | | Bike Setup: | Giant Iguana Disc, Six Sport (w/ soft spring kit), eggbeaters, titec bar, Deore cranks, Fire Xc Pro's, barends | | Bottom Line: | This fork has served me well for it's year of hard use. I just started racing tis year, and like this fork a lot. But as I said before this ain't no Fox. They are much stiffer and more linear. But that's another review
