Manitou Sherman Breakout Plus 2005 Front Shocks

Manitou Sherman Breakout Plus 2005 Front Shocks

DESCRIPTION

Manitou's Sherman Breakout Plus leverages the OnePointFive head tube standard into a fork that's super strong and stiff - with a single crown design! The OnePointFive setup allows an amazing 170mm of travel in a single crown fork. Rapid Travel II top-mounted travel adjuster lets you go between 130-170mm of travel to suit the terrain.

Strength:

I am failing to recognize any strenght in a supposivingly major player in MTB industry who doesn't provide any fork joints 5 years after the Shermann Fork was sold.

Weakness:

my front fork is unable to be fixed up due to a lack of spare parts. I was advised to just buy another fork.

For the record, I have bought the Scott High Octane Fr bike in 2008, and now that I need a general inspection and my front fork to be revised, I was said my bike was ytoo old and I need to buy another bike.

Thus, considering the fact, that this bike is sold with Hayes brake system which belong to Manitou's group, I just realize I was helpnig out a bunch of robbers.

Pardon my english, but this ain't my natural language as I am writing from France. I could sound a little Borat

Strength:

air, light, travel, stiff, thru axle, travel adjust.

Weakness:

travel adjust, 1.5 in head

I got it for 200$ with the trek frame. that would make it free? idk. upside down, its kind of sticky, but someone told me its the hydraulics that dont work upside down. This fork is sooo light! my last fork was a rst omega and it weighed more than this w/ 100mm of travel! thiese are like 3 pounds lighter than the bomber 66s and have travel adjustment so i stuck w/ these. The travel adjustment is a little weird because it clicks, but once in the 130mm setting it feels like an xc fork. plush travel in full mode, love the air. The only thing is if you have a normal bike the fork wont fit in because its 1.5in.
strong, light and nice.
id buy it.
people have said manitou isnt very good but ill keep riding and see.
you can always buy something nicer if you have the money, except it might not be as light.

Strength:

Excellent for large drops. Adjustable. Strong.

Weakness:

Horrible at soaking up small bumps (before I "Devoled" the SPV platform)

I took this fork out to Snowshoe and it was a horrible disappointment. The fork ceased up after doing actual downhill riding. HOWEVER, i took the fork apart, cleaned the seals, replaced the oil, and disabled the SPV platform (you can find out how to do this easily, just search for "SPV Devole") Now it feels great. I reccommend disabling the SPV platform (its reversable btw) to anyone who doesnt like the feel of the sherman as is. With the devolve, it feels like a whole new fork, much more capable of soaking up little bumps as well as large ones.

Strength:

Weakness:

can only assume its the travel adjuster!
no preload either?

recived the bike on friday, couldnt wait to ride it and spent all day saturday goint through the manuals and checking all the fixings and so on, took the bike to local park, all going well....so i thought.....after riding down a two foot drop, YES TWO FOOT!! it broke!...... i mean not broke as in snapped but locked rigid!!..... i am properly gutted, its a brand new set of forks! rest of the bike is excellent and i am very happy but this is the first set of manitou i have ever owned, one day ( well about 2hrs ) and there broken....this disgusting really!

Strength:

I can't believe a 7 inch single crown is this stiff, very adjustable, so plush, handles drops no problem, tracks well, beefy all around fork, other obvious advantages of a single crown.

Weakness:

ummmm pinch bolts on thru axle strip easliy

Who needs a dual crown when you have a 7 inch fork like this??

Strength:

Camo lowers look rediculously nice,
spv evolve is good if you get it set up right,
takes biiig hits and lots of abuse without complaining..

Weakness:

everyone i have ever seen leaks a little oil out on the stantions... should check out how much yer losing on average and add a little every 2 months or so if u dont change it that often...

This fork is super cheap used and if you have a 1.5 i would reccomend this fork as the travel adjust is very nice while pedalling up (if thats what yer into) and the 7" of travel is awesome for dropping gapping and downhilling...
