Strength:

Pretty good action. 100mm setting very good, 120mm even better, more plush. Not an air fork, no hassles with carrying around a shock pump, no problem with air leaks, etc. Microlube ports make occasional lubing easy, quick.

Weakness:

Not heavy by comparison, but not light either.

Excellent buy, very inexpensive when compared to other suspension forks costing $500, $600, and more. Low maintenance = a big plus in my book, don't want to hassle with air chambers, etc. Set it, forget it.

Strength:

Super smooth ride (especially on 100mm), easy to adjust between the 80/100mm travel settings, and look great.

Weakness:

The Stickers are starting to come off already, due to extreme hot weather

I do a variety of trails, so need a good all round fork that will cope with what ever I throw at it. It makes riding very smooth, and is easy to adjust.
I just now have to see whether it will stand the test of time....

Sorry for the repeat. I recently got tired of bottoming out the fork when nosing-in over small drops. I went down to the LBS and ordered an extra-firm shock kit. For 20$ you can get a different weighted spring stack. Seems a bit high for 1 coil but....

I bought the kit. If you have your original vendor material, you can scan it for the following:

When you install a firm or extra-firm spring you remove the Rapid Travel Adjustment. For those keeping track at home you're recommended to use the firm spring at 170lbs.

So now you've got a fork with no travel adjustment, a plastic knob (which will break on the first large crash, let alone if you pilot through rocks downhills) for rebound adjustment on the BOTTOM ??!!?? of the stanchion, not to mention the alleged "pre-load" control.

Despite all that, its still a decent fork, especially for the price. The major-mechanicals of the fork seem to be more durable as I've gone 3feet to flat several times wih no issues (i'm 200+ lbs).

Strength:

Very smooth, good and quick adjusments, good looking and whar else can I say a good fork overall

Weakness:

a little hevier than other forks but `

I Like this Manitou espeacially the asdjusmentsof it, good range, it is a little heavier than other forks but it's a little thicker and good looking than other forks. It's a very good fork for those who wants a very quick range adjusment.
So Overall a very good fork

Robert Ching   Weekend Warrior [Dec 11, 2006]
Strength:

Came with bike, reasonably stiff, very plush

Weakness:

too plush and needed to upgrade the spring but still too plush, not enough rebound control, heavy, a bit flexy, no lockout

I had no choice, this fork came with the bike. Too plush, too flexy, too soft even with the stiffest spring and not enough rebound control. It is a basic fork and is better than the old elastomer forks or ones without oil dampening. My R7 kills it for stiffness and rebound but we are talking about another league of forks. Seemed well matched to the plushness of the VT. Unfortunately, it is neither a XC fork or freeride fork, pretty much the same problem as the VT itself... a good general bike but good at nothing in particular.
