South City Cyclone   Weekend Warrior [Mar 26, 2010]
Strength:

Shimano Name, Looks, GoreTex, Color Scheme (which might be subjective)

Weakness:

Have to be careful with sizing if ordering online, had to go in for a bigger size as the one ordered was small, Shoe is very narrow, probably will open up with usage. Hard - dont expect it to double up as a regular hiking/walking shoe

Overpriced but a Good Shoe nevertheless, still havent tested it during rains. Has sustained a lot of abuse..

MrC   Weekend Warrior [Feb 24, 2010]
Strength:

Very good waterproofing
Comfortable when walking (once broken in!)
Look like normal hiking shoes

Weakness:

Slightly flawed design - the ankle is too low
Shimano's sizing is all wrong!
Not cheap

Overall, a good shoe let down slightly by a flawed design. Plenty of effort has been made to make it look and feel like a regular hiking shoe - great for bike & hike trips - and the gore-tex waterproofing stops the rain seeping in, but the low ankle lets water in even when wearing over-trousers, which means you end up cycling with a small puddle in your shoe. A pair of gaiters sorts this out, but slightly irritating to be shelling out more cash when they're not exactly cheap shoes to start with.

I have found these to be quite comfortable despite being more rigid than regular shoes (no problems with the cleat bolts like the previous reviewer), but try before you buy to get the sizing right - Shimano seem to think European 44 is US 9.5/ UK 8.5.

Ruger   Cross Country Rider [Mar 10, 2009]
Strength:

None!

Weakness:

Main weakness was the cleat adapter defect. This is when the cleat adaptor is felt thru the footbed. This was present out of the box with no cleats attached. This was very prevelant in all THREE pairs I tried. But only in the right shoe left one was fine. I could feel the screws right at the pressure point at my midfoot. Right where pressure is greatest. It was real bad! I tried thick innersoles and superfeet insoles which helped a little, but I could not use the shoes. I wear a 44.5 these dont come in half sizes, the 45's fit pretty well! Very flexible shoe.

At $150.00 its a pricey shoe!

I tried three pairs of these shoes all were defective. The size 45's fit pretty well except for the screw heads sticking into my midfoot.
Only the right shoe the left one was fine.

I dont have sensitive or hard to fit feet!

They are cool looking and goretex. The lacing system is not very secure or versitile. Its baisically a flexible soled hike/bike shoe that is poorly made, and not well thought out.

Thankfully REI has a satisfaction guarantee.

Since I could not use any of the three pairs I tried I awarded the lowest score.
