WTB SST Team Saddle

Available At:
SST Team

The WTB SST Team saddle owned the saddle market throughout the late nineties, and early into the new millennium. It took a simple shape and sleek lines and provided high-performance comfort to all takers. Its distinctive drop nose design provides riders more freedom of movement -- greatly decreasing the likelihood of snagging shorts while slicing singletrack, or providing support on the gnarliest of climbs.

Saddles are such a personal choice, but I feel compelled to write a review because I've finally found the perfect saddle! Great combination of light and comfortable, even for long rides. Tried a more padded WTB saddle (Speed V Progel) which was comfortable, but heavy, and some minimally padded race saddles (Selle Italia Flite XC Gel Flow, SL XC) which were light but presented me with all kinds of pain. Bought one of the SST Team (black, not limited) saddles on Chainlove for $55 and could not be happier. Looks great, doesn't snag, light, comfy, and all around awesome.

Strength:

Glad it's back. I don't know why it ws ever discontinued. Broad in teh back for confort. Drop=nose make ridignther for traction and positioning on climbs make it the best there is. Critical for this HT Rider.

Weakness:

Why did they print SST on the nose with a grippy material? It snags the crotch.

The best for long tough rides with climbs.

Strength:

Excellent feel, good leather, the classic outstanding drop nose, kevlar fenders at the outside edges, stealthy and low key logos. Lightweight for a full saddle.

Weakness:

Price, perhaps.

This is the 2009 WTB reissue of the old SST saddle with the deep drop nose and Ti rails, but with updating to the cutout in the shell, kevlar fenders on the edges and better looking rails. It's light like a top-end WTB, but not their lightest. It is perfect for the long rides and the drop nose works as well to avoid snagging baggies as it did on lycra... It's not too wide, and the padding on the nose is cush enough to perch up there on long, steep climbs if you have to.
