Strength:

The frame has seen 14 years of use and neglect through rain, snow, mud, sand, stairs occasionally and plenty of miles and is still solid. Somehow the front wheel has also lasted 14 years. Replaceable gear hanger is a life saver.

Weakness:

I have broken nearly everything else or it wore out realtively quickly.

I still prefer this bike to many new ones even now it is getting quite old. If I were to start again though I would buy one with better components as I have changed everything apart from the frame and seat.

Strength:

the frame is the only original part left and i still love it for its function and form.

Weakness:

most of the parts were budget, but what a frame to upgrade.

now lives on my trainer and looks good with it.

Rim   Weekend Warrior [Aug 15, 2010]
Strength:

Frame - its about all of the stock bike that is left after 10 years! The bike is very easy to handle... just point and go!

Weakness:

Fork, cranks/pedals and stem/handlebars. Fork doesn't have much travel, cranks and pedals not up to scratch and stem/ handlebar impede maneuverability.

As stated above I've had this bike for 10 years and have gradually upgraded almost all the components with just the frame, seat, rear derailleur and brakes being original. Having said that, this bike has done some serious miles including the odd black diamond track and I've never had to walk it home. If your looking for a bike to customize to your own needs then its a sturdy base to start from.

Dayne Lenton   Racer [Apr 16, 2004]
Strength:

a very fast bike, quite comfortable and easy to steer, quite lightweight. front suspension very soft for a comfy ride

Weakness:

bad grips, jumpy gears, MANY RIPPED JEANS from the exposed cog :/ (really should buy a guard) and the rims didnt last too long..

a very quick and manouverable bike, good for a nice little ride through a woodland shortcut on yer way to work. easy to wheelie and bunnyhops due to light weight and easily keeps up with cars :D

Strength:

frame is excellent light yet tough, velociraptors give good grip but clog in mud.I have had some good falls but the bike didn't suffer.

Weakness:

suntour crank, rst forks(no damping and very basic)original brakes were not up to real bad weather and ate a set of pads in a weekend

excellent value rugged and reliable, lightish(new wheels would be my next upgrade(the frame is the equivalent of the zaskar)

I paid £250

Strength:

My bike has good seat and rides smooth and can take big drops. has good tires, panracers and easton lite down hill bars.

Weakness:

the rear derailer breaks alot and the shocks bottom out to easy.

i think the 98'palomar Gt is a good bike for a beginning rider and intermidiate. when i got the bike i was looking for somthing cheap. if you are to advanced you will have lots of problems with the bike. smooth riding and comfterble. i sugest this bike for street riding.

Strength:

V-brakes, solid Aluminum Frame, Veloci Raptors, I got it second hand cheap ($175cdn)and and its almost brand new.

Weakness:

Peice of S#%T crank (replaced it), cheap wheels.

This is a solid bike that needs upgrades but will get you buy til you do, only reason I bought it though is cause I ripped a friend off and got it cheap. Marzocchi Bombers rock on this bike and all other shocks are F&#$@!G pieces of S&%T.

Strength:

weight, build and weld quality (I'm a welder and Iknow how expensive an difficult the inert gas process is) gears are fairly good as are the veloceraptos.needs tweaking.

Weakness:

pedals, tiny bars, soft rims, appetite for pads dated saddle, mediocre forks

this bike's become a fairly good bit of kit.the winter seems to beast up the alloy bits and it needs regular care.Im going to try fitting a front disk sometime, and after that i might manufacture a swingarm and strip the rest of the back end off to fit it. easier done than said.if you want to fit a disk then get the kit and approach a sympathetic welder who has gas tungsten inert gas equipment.remember to rub down and heat the area where the mounting studs go before welding! all in all, im very happy with this bike after sus forks were fitted

Similar Products Used: any mtb that comes to hand- most recently an antique muddy fox, a specialized big hit (wow) and a dodgy old marin dh.plus my old palomar... so many bikes, such little time.
