Strength:

light , bombproof frame , climbs well , better than me.

Weakness:

absolutely none

after selling my zaskar le about 10 years ago i have ridden other hardtails including gt avalanche, aggressor , kona nunu, hoss, and more recently orange gringo.
even after 10 years the zaskar race still kicks a** and is a better all round bike than most could ever hope to be. a brilliant second hand buy !!

Light, Strong, Better than I am!

Weakness:

Not many. Paint is a little weak

this bike is way better than I am. My buddy spotted this on CL a year ago (I've been back into riding for 2-3 seasons now) and every time I take her out it's almost like the bike looks as me afterwards and says "are we going to be challenged next time" Everything I throw at it, it just eats and smiles. Stable strong platform with confidence inspiring frame. Climbs like you wouldn't believe. Still outperforms many newer bikes on the trail. The old Zaskars are pretty affordable these days, if you can find one in good shape, it is well worth the money over what you would spend on a new bike for the same price. Just a word of caution... it might make you think you are better than you really are...

Strength:

Stiffer than every frame I've ever tried...but still more comfortable. Fast as hell. Climbs like nothing else. Descends as good as my Kona Mokomoko FS bike.

Weakness:

None...apart from that I wish it had come in the natural aluminium (silver) finish like the older Zaskars. That billet aluminium really gives me a rock. Woof.

I brought the frame only. I cycle to work in London every day, with Project 2 forks on the bike; its the fastest but most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. The 2001 Zaskar Race's and Team's are made of Easton tubing which simply absorbs the small bumps better than other tubes. Its a better ride than previous Zaskars; these were stiff as f**k, and harsh as f**k too. It's even better than the old Zaskar LEs' too; the geometry of the Race/Team (2001 models) is more compliant as the top-tube is more angled. What I found was...when using this frame with rigid forks (also goes for any frame designed for an 80/100mm travel sus fork); rigid forks are much shorter than modern sus. forks. I got round this problem by splitting a 10mm headset spacer with a hacksaw, and putting it on the fork steerer-tube UNDER the frame's headtube (i.e. under the bottom part of the headset) to raise the frame to the correct height (and angle). Otherwise, the steering was be twitchy. I'm not sure if this is technically safe, but it works fine for me...anyway, see a bike mechanic first. I currently use Kona P2's, which are light and stiff.

Off-road I've got Bomber forks on it, and I can go just as fast on the downhills as my FS bike. So, I'm selling the FS bike. The Zaskar is an awesome climber too. I can ride longer on it than anything, and go faster than I ever have. I would recommend that you buy one...but I won't... because I WANT ANOTHER ONE!!

Strength:

Its amazinglt light, but at the same time strong. The welding and paint work are all good quality and the geometry is very versatile, with cross country, trials, dual all open to you its no suprise the Zaskar is super popular.

Weakness:

There are no instant weaknesses with a Zaskar, if you cant afford one wait till the end of the season and they'll
drop like everything else

Versatile is a great word for this bike. Ive ridden them since I was about 14 and I cant fault them at all. I ve tried pretty much every size. I did find the 2000 12.5" a little too small although I used it for dual and trials. My new Zaskar race with be a 14" dual/freeride/crosscountry/trials/downhill bike because I can. The looks never fail to impress my mates and it is incredibly quick of the mark.
As this isnt a full susser downhill isnt easy in comparisson to say a Super 8. But you cant have everything. But what you do get is a bike that can handle very technical downhill with some long travel forks. The little details a pleasing the swoop of the disk mounts down to the dropout look great. The triple triangle is faultless also and the geometry is great if you find the frame for you and you know what you want to do. Bottom lin being if you want to race down a hill buy a Super 8 but for anything else get Zaskar.

Strength:

I only bought it as a frame set to up grade my '00 model zaskar. The race frameset is much lighter in comparison. Also the frame is very stiff, adding to sprint capability!

Weakness:

paint tends to scratch easy, but that is probably the way I treat it!

if it is xc racing that turns u on, go for a zaskar.
if it is slalom, mtx, trail a bit of gravity, just buy a smaller frame and buy 4" travel forks!!!
these things rock
I reckon zaskar riders are most loyal to the name, they always keep coming back!!!

Strength:

Holly God! Everything on this bike is top notch! The frame won’t bend under pressure or hard drops, climbs great, descends great, and even if you buy a big frame...(I’m 6’ 1” and I have a 20 inch frame) ...you can still hit huge jumps and drops with your downhill homies.

Weakness:

Are you serious? There are NO weaknesses on this bike. nope, sorry, this bike owns you all!

The advice i have is this, you haven’t experienced true mountain biking until youve riddin this bike. My advice is if your not too sure what ya want to ride, like XC, Slalom, or dirt jumping, maybe buy one size less and just hammer the seat down when ya wanna jam! Basically, everone should buy this bike!
