Strength:

Durable frame, good for technical stuff having the 26" tires

Weakness:

Single wall rims don't stand a chance, factory brakes are faulty, suspension crappy

I bought this bike brand new in 2011. The first week I had it i destroyed the front wheel, ended up getting a Specialized double wall wheel which seems to last much much better. The brakes failed on me within a year or 2 so i upgraded them to BB7 200mm's. Fantastic stopping power now. Suspension was crappy so I just purchased a RockShock air fork for it. This bike is now better than brand new. For everyday Rails to Trails riding it's perfect. Once you start doing the downhills and really technical things you may want to look in to upgrading components. It's like a car, you get what you pay for and if you put money into it it's more reliable.

Strength:

mostly comfortable, although it would be totally comfortable and great ride with a few adjustments i someone can help me with.

Weakness:

maybe none, see under "review summary"

i don't have a job because of the economy and have been using my sons bike: Gary Fisher, Tarpon, model 85:6102. I need the handle bars closer to me, since i am not a tall as my son. can the handle bars be brought forth maybe 1 inch? i think this would stop the upper neck/back pain i'm having for reaching so far. i plan on buying this brand of bike when i get settled in a job. thank you.

Strength:

The bike is a great first bike for people dipping their toes in mountain biking. Gary Fisher's G2 geometry makes for very good handling at slow speeds and good stability at high speeds. Even with the rather steep head angle, the bike feels very confident and refined. It rides lighter than the scales may suggest and it has good upgrade potential. Overall a perfect bike for a beginner!

Weakness:

Not much tire clearance in the rear, but that is not much of problem as most people won't run tires bigger than 2.2 anyways. The stock Suntour fork should be replaced with something that feels a little less like a pogo stick and more like a suspension fork.

If you're looking for your first real mountain bike, this is a perfect bike for beginners with its neutral, confident handling, quick acceleration and light weight. Would be nice if it comes stock with a better fork or 29er wheels.

Strength:

Can go off big jumps that I have found while riding around. I ride everywhere.

Weakness:

Pedals. Plastic so can break easy.

Very good bike. Nothing is bad but the pedals. Its a very good bike for normal riders but when going off of very high drop offs I am afraid because it is a hardtail.

Strength:

TREK. What more can I say. Strong, durable a bargain at the price it was being sold at, the bike is also fast becoming a collecters item and finding one now is like gold dust. If you would like one like the 2011 advance be quick.

Weakness:

pedals, but easily fixed

I use my bike for commuting to work over rough/smooth tracks and also for shopping and just riding for pleasure. I'm no spring chicken being over the half century. Of all the bikes I have had this is by far the best for all ages and abilities, also as with all Trek/Gary fisher bikes there is excelent product backup if somethis does go wrong.

Strength:

Great quality components for price, very durable, adjustable front suspension (would like it better with a lock out feature)

Weakness:

plastic pedals

Awesome bike, handles well on the trails and on the road, very strong and durable bike yet incredibly light weight, I wrecked it bad (broken bones and torn up knee ligaments) though the bike was fine (had to replace the seat). Awesome bike at a great price.
