Strength:

Cheap, good geometry, strong frame that will not want to break, comes with a nice short stem (needed for this bike's geometry), also has a nice short chainstay.

Weakness:

Fork is pretty terrible. I think it's a 80mm travel fork, but it feels like 40mm. Derailleurs are not that good, but cheap to replace. Brakes are mechanical and pretty bad. You really get what you pay for.

I bough this bike new a while ago. Back then I didn't do anything crazy on my bikes. Rear derailleur broke down pretty quick. Fork was really bad from the start and got even worse after winter. Last autumn the chain snapped and front chainring was bent.

This year I did a project on the bike. Bought a new fork (rock shox 100mm coil), new hydraulic brakes and new brake discs, wider 800mm handlebar with 50mm rise (spank spike 800), new saddle (I didn' like the old one at all), new lock-on grips and new tyres. Now the bike rides like a dream.

So this is an entry level bike. As stated before, you really get what you pay for with this bike. The frame is very nice and strong.
I recommend this as a base for an aggressive hardtail project. You can do amazing things with this frame, but it really does need better parts.
If you are new to mountain biking, I recommend you invest a little more and buy a newer bike with better parts.

Review for the 2013 MSRP $750. This thing SHREDS! It does not matter if I am jumping off a park bench or doing some XC riding it can keep up! Short chain stay gives you a lot of control but also keeps the bike from climbing as well. But who cares I got it to jump not ride XC!

Weakness:

Fork is more or less for looks. Works on and off but for the price of the bike its easily upgrade-able.

Worth the money! Set it and ride like the wind. Fun bike!

Super strong frame, light wight

Weakness:

None review only for the frame

My LBS got me the 09 Komodo II frame back in July from Jamis it was NOS and had never been built up. I was wanting a do all hardtail that could be rode hard and not break.. I had Cannondale hardtails and the frames would break after several broke frames thats why I got and built up the Komodo. What a KICKASS FRAME !! to build up. The frame has a high BB hight using a bash guard you have 11" clearance and for a high front climbs very well and is a killer frame for trail riding. Were it really shines is going down hill it just rails and handles super well. Running a long travel fork make this frame a blast to ride and you can ride it were most hardtail frames could not go. This frame needs to be rode with a short stem.

Strength:

Great price, great components, heavy duty, sleek design, complete awesomeness. I've heard numerous complaints about the fork but it's been completely fine for the past month. The preload adjustment is super easy and the fork is smooth as butter.

Weakness:

The crank seems to have a very slight wobble but it doesn't seem to effect the performance. The bike is otherwise solid.

For $350, this is the best fr/dirt jumper around. It's a heavy duty bike with awesome components and good looks.

Strength:

very strong frame

unique geometry which is surprisingly comfortable on long rides

sharp looks

Weakness:

questionable components

mechanical disc brakes

The komodo is a very cheap bike for what you get. The parts aren't so great but i like it that way because i intend to upgrade it extensively. I've only had minor issues with the bike that were basically my own fault, all of which you could solve with a hex wrench. I recommend this bike to anyone who enjoys riding hard and upgrading their bikes, also to anyone who is just looking for a knock around bike or beginner's bike.

geometry, can handle a 6" travel fork.

Weakness:

Purchased the frame for 80$ on ebay and could not be happier. I rounded up all my spare parts and created a no frills all mountain ride. This is a 2005 1.0 with the braces on the seat and chainstays. The bike is just fun to ride, especially with a long travel fork and large volume tires. I had a 90 mm stem with a 5 degree rise and the bike just did not feel right. I then put a sycros 70 mm stem with an 8 degree rise and wider bars and the bike feels perfect. Climbing is surprisingly well considering how high the front end sits off the ground. The front wheel never wanders. Jumping with this bike is where it shines, just point and shoot. I'm speaking just for the frame I don't know what parts it was equiped with from the factory and we all know subpar components can kill a good ride. I would definitety consider this frame for anyone who wants a hardtail do all bike.

Strength:

I love the DJ ones. I have not bottomed out once. the frame is great. Ive had no problems doing drop offs or big jumps. it's got about a 40 pound frame so its heavy for a hardtail but Its worth the weight for the durability you get

Weakness:

Its really heavy and hard to go up hill

This bike is a great bike to beat up. I do downhill with it and then I go and jump it. It's pretty much good for any thing but X country. For the price, you get a great deal

Strength:

The frame is really strong, it won't break on you. The geometry works for big bike DJ's and more freeride-ish stuff. If you build it up light it can also be a great all mountain bike. It just depends on components. The chainstay is short enough to really toss the bike around in the air too, it's super easy to do whips and the like.

Weakness:

The only weaknesses of the bike is the derailleurs which just aren't very strong or great overall, the brakes which rub no matter what unless you back them off to where they don't even touch the disks, and the fork which has 5 inches of travel but feels like it has 2. Those are really the only bad spots on this entire bike.

Even then, it's not as though those parts don't work, because they do and they hold up for a while, they just don't perform at a level most people expect. But they're just a few components, and they're easily replaced. Since I nabbed this frame at $440, it doesn't really bother me at all.

Awesome frame, if only the components were a tiny bit better.
