Strength:

Solid and strong.

Weakness:

Heavy, 9 speed.

2008 Stinky. I just started riding downhill and the bike is a confidence booster. Coming from an expert snowsports background I feel right at home cornering on this DH rig with its bottomless suspension. The original owner of mine upgraded most of the components, and shed about 10 lbs off the original weight, but it's still a beast to peddle uphill. A 10 speed upgrade is something to consider, especially if one were intending on getting into enduro.

Strength:

Strength , cheap

Weakness:

Heavyish ,

To be honest this bike takes some beating for value , it still gets a lot of looks and if you replace the stock spring with something stiffer its can go uphill even if it does weigh a ton , but its downhill this thing is built for and it boy does it fly , put 888 s on it and a decent set of wheels and you have something you can keep up with your mates with ,if your looking at buying a new all bells and kashima coated whistle s dh bike don't !!!!!buy this !!!plus with the change you can buy a decent 2nd hand van to carry you and your mates to the the trails or a holiday in the Seychelles

Weakness:

heavy, quite a chore to pedal up

bought a 2005 stinky brand new and i still have it. had it for 7 years and still feels new and no complaints when it comes to freeride/DH. people told me stinky was good for beginners but this is and will be plenty enough for me.

Strength:

Forks, Strength, Shocks, Jumps Well

Weakness:

Bit Heavy,

If your starting downhill or hitting big jumps, this is the bike for you. It is really forgiving and will take everything you throw at it. Super plush, really smooth, takes bumps well. Great starter to intermediate bike because its strong and if you crash, it WONT break.

Strength:

Solid suspension, never failed me, although I only use a few times a month. Well made. The brakes are good.

Weakness:

Very heavy for road riding, not at all suitable, only tried once but it was mentally difficult. But I have Boardman roadbike so I use that anyway

I don't know much about bikes, I just ride them and I don't really know how much this bike costs new but for the price I bought it it is great.

Similar Products Used: I only have mountain bikes and road bikes, not full suspension ones except this so none are really similar

Strength:

Solid bike, great amount of travel, easy to tune, Bomb proof, decent groupset and parts for cash paid, good brakes on original build, can ride this anywhere thats not got an incline upwards... get off to push up hill

Weakness:

a little heavy, standard rear shock spring on 09 model is a bit soft if you're a fat guy,

Great bike for anyone wanting to get into freeride / downhill and have fun, easy to adjust the Kona recommended build parts, cheap and absolutley bomb proof, I've had some big crashes on mine and the worst damage I've done was a small scratch on the paint on the forks, which isn't bad considering my body armour got destroyed by the same accident.

Strength:

Nuke Proof, Very low center of balance feeling, huge brakes

Weakness:

not the best bike for road riding, VERY heavy

by far the best bike ive had so far (mountain that is) i picked it up for only $600 and the previous owner abused it pretty bad. but it still works like new. ive had other riders that have bikes that cost twice as much, complement me on how forgiving it is. the hubs are almost shot mostly from the last owner ( it was missing half the bearings and had broken axles) and that might be my next upgrade. WARNING! the factory brakes use DOT3 NOT mineral oil. the last owner told me that and i hosed up the brakes, so i upgraded those. Over all, this bike will take anything you throw at it and BEGG for more

502stingray   Racer [May 31, 2010]
Strength:

Super Tough Frame, DOPE brake system!, New longer swingarm work really well, no flex or bending in the frame, just change springs out (550 lb vs 350lb) and you can go from DH race bike to a Freeride bike. 1.5 headset is rock solid, will take any drop you throw at it, great balance in the air too. Little maintanance required!!!!
Graham Agassiz has one.

Weakness:

A little heavy for urban Freeride, stock BB and HS suck, go for a King.

The most reliable bike ive ever owned, it will go thru 10 DH races with almost no maintanance, the frame is super tough, and you can race on sunday and go FR on monday. I used this bike on the 2010 US open in NJ and its a great bike, never broke down unlike my Demo 8. It will take anything you throw at it, 8ft concrete pancake drops to 40ft jumps easily. Very stable on those big jumps as well as high speeds. Easy to throw around for backflips and 360's. I love this bike. Its a little heavy for urban Freeride and those stationary moves but if you have enough power it can be done.

Strength:

Amazing looks,High quality parts from the factory. Smooth shifting, awesome balance points. Stiff suspension i perfer. Easyier to bunny hop.

Weakness:

I wouldnt really call it a weakness, but it is heavy, and sometimes on flat ground after a couple miles its hard to keep a decent cruise pace.

I bought this bike off ebay,
it came in great condition, i took it to Jisan Downhill park in S. Korea the next day and sessioned the bike all day and hard as hell. Nothing ever faltered. Bike handled amazing, took boulders, 20ft jumps, 30+ mph decents over ruff ditches etc.. Handled technical sections on the Expert/Expert trail with a breeze. Brakes never faded. Bike is perfect!
I love my Kona Stinky!
