Strength:

I'm 5'10" and the frame size is small which i think fits perfect for all mountain riding. Definitely lighter frame than my Giant Warp DS3. All the components are aftermarket on this frame so that plays a big part in why i like this bike. Although, i've only been on one ride with it so far.

Weakness:

could use a cooler paint job. the silver is kind of boring. give me a nice glossy green or something *shrug*

I really dig my bike setup. I bought it two days ago off of Craigslist and finally got to ride it tonight. It is complete night and day difference from my Giant Warp DS3. I feel like a faster rider on this bike. Corners really well and brakes very well. There's a downhill section that's just berms and turns and i feel like i was able to carry more speed, be more aggressive, and really attack the trail. In general i just feel more comfortable and solid on this bike. Can't say if its the frame or the components or simply just the whole package. I was really worried at first about the short Gravity stem and the wide handlebars. Initially it feels like the cockpit is really cramped, but after the first ride it doesn't bother me at all. actually rode my friend's bike with a long stem and narrow bars and felt like it was way out in front. Climbing was ok. I've only got a medium chain ring in the front and could probably use another one, but i'm going to keep it like this and see how it works out. oh, I feel like i was able to keep really good traction on steep climbs, even out of the saddle. I was able to keep some traction while my buddy was slipping. overall really really happy with this bike and how it is setup.

Strength:

Great frame - strong structure with good rear travel (5.75). climbing is outstanding and the frame's balance is rare. Just Don't waste the graet frame on a front manitou suspension that will suck forever.

Weakness:

None so far!

Great for all mountain agressive use. These bikes never give up!! just feed them more rocks to climb or jump!! no matter how agressive U get - the frame will always be one step ahead of U!!

Strength:

Great Bike, landed a 15 footer on it, rear shock is good, grips last very long, great freeride/downhill bike for someone on a budget and doesn't want to buy a 7 inch bike that will break in 2 months.

Weakness:

Manitou fork has to light a spring in it, cranks broke in 5 months (probably my fault), tires to low of a tread for mud or downhill, seat broke in 4 months.

Definitly take a look at this bike it's awesome. Gave me a lot of good times. But definetly change the tires and fork spring trust me on this. Also you it may take a while for you to warm up to this bike, but once you do it's amazing. Has saved my butt a couple of times. Overall a great bike with no complaints.

Strength:

Materials, design, engineering, welds, needle bearings, components, price
(available with sram x7)

Weakness:

The main pivot uses two sections of aluminum shaft instead of a stronger solid shaft foung on the freefide designs
hubs/rims,pedals

single pivot simplicity combined with intens engineering
(I heard that the forming is done in us) welds by hand in Canada
This is an unbeatable bike for the price point!
The frame is solid and responds! There is plenty of room to upgread the compoets, but most riders wont need to util the parts wearout.
If you are an adventuras beginer get it.
If you are a seasond pro you will be coverted(try the ollie ad cream!) but might want the solid shaft upgread for the main pivot.

Strength:

-Great, stiff frame
-good begginers components
-great tires
-overall strong components. the only part ive ever boken is the rear derailleur and it was my fault.

Weakness:

-feet slide easily off the pedals, need something with better grip
-mechanical disk brakes will get you started, but the hayes are a bit low end. It would be nice to see some Hayes HFX 9s or some Avid Juicy 5s. A 7 or 8 inch rotor up front would be a nice upgrade (make it a better "all around" bike)
- A bit on the heavy side for cross country races but still gets the job done with good results.

this is an amazing bike at an amazing price. It is great stock but there is lots of room for upgrading. Devinci builds this bike as an all around ride. It is meant for begginer riders who want to discover what type of riding they want to do. That being said, the frame can be used for any type of riding and you can change components to better suite your riding style. Instead of making you blow away money on a bike that might not even suite you Devinci offers the chillipepper, a bike that can handle any thing from XC to lighter freeride and downhill. Great bike for the aggresive all around rider. Ive riden 24 hour crosscountry races as well as stunts and 1 meter high drops and jumps all on the same bike. I even know some people who have riden blue mountain on this bike. Perfect for all riders.

Strength:

* This is for the 2006 Jalapeno
- Bombproof, Canadian quality hand-made frame, sexy looking in black. Good strong welding with attention to details. A professional freeride bike.
- Good angles for handeling obtacles and decenting.
Very good SP suspention (with the proper shock ofcourse).
- The rear triangle gives lot of tire clearance, no lower bar for the chain to slap on, and massive dropouts.
- Appropriate selection of components, the right tools for the job. Strong Alex DM24 rims.
- no issues with cable routing
- Front fork and rear shock are designed to work with each other, giving good, plush suspention. They are the Stance Hex Blunt QR20 and the Metel RP. They are the top components of the manitou "budget" freeride line, OEM perhaps only for DeVinci and Ironhorse.
- The Manitou also has a built-in 6" rotor housing, eliminating the need for a 6" adjuster.
- Lock-on grips!

Weakness:

- The bike could have lighter components on the same budget which would increase pedabillity. It's not too efficient in sprinting up gravelly trails, but it isn't actually what they were designed for either.
- 8" rotors are only trouble if you don't stricktly ride downhill. Hayes doesn't have the best 8" rotors.
- I wish the fork would have compression adjustment and not only rebound.

For the freerider on a budget indeed (since $2000 became "on a budget").
The frame has good handeling for technical decents and drops, excellent for clearing obstacles and shooting through roots and rock gardens, the brute and powerful QR20 150mm oil Manitou inspires confidence on decents, and the rear shock is tough and well performing, giving a stiff pedaling platform with plenty of adjustment. Since the rear shock is almost horizontal, the shock compression shortens the wheelbase more than a 4 bar linkage would (which is good because the Jalapeno has quite a large wheelbase). It goes well with the single pivot FR design. Although from the "budget" line, the shock and fork are quite sophisticated in absorbing the bumps and drops, and I feel like the bike is doing the job for me and teaching me how to ride it. "This is how the hit is absorbed, sit and learn" say the shocks. but I suppose the penalty is the weight. The bike can definitely be ridden in trails, but it can get slushy and slow on long streaches and uphill efforts. Short sprints uphill are very easy and fun, and the Jalapeno can easily fly over uphill obstacles where the XC race biker would probably choose another line. Reducing 2 kilos would be great, I'm working on it, but it requires changing many parts.
Definitey give a lot of consideration for the tires.
This bike has supreme terrain tracking and is designed for abuse and reckless riding, and also for winding technical decents. It will fulfill your freeride needs. I'm only giving it 4 chillies on overall because I think it can even be better with lighter components.

Strength:

I got a great deal 1400$can (i attempted to round in american but its not right). including taxes, great everything. No real things have gone wrong, and i like how the frame is designed so u dont really need a lizard skin.

Weakness:

hmm... if i go really picky, the pedals look bad but meh i dont care, and i'll probably get a new seat just cuz its hard and not squishy. And something i fixed was the rebound of the fork which made it a lot easier for jumps.

Amazing bike. I got a great deal for it since it has an amazing shock, drivetrain and brakes and frame. I recommend this to any type of trail rider and light freeriders.

2300 with taxes dallars canadian
this is for the 2005 (devinci jalapeno)big level up from chilly peper
frame is the best. life time warenty no play very strong and not heavy at all.
the rear shock is very stiff and there is the platform adjustment that makes it feel like a hard tail if u want.
it also has a second shock pivit point mount never used it yet lowers travel for xc

Weakness:

the only thing is the fork (manitou stance blunt) need stiffer spring but other then that awsome

the best bike i ever owns. it is a free ride bike that u can peddal around. i keep up to cross county racers on it. and then i hit the big kickers and show them up lol. ive havent had the bike too long yet but if done a 5 foot wheely drop flat land and i had the rear shock platform adjustment set stiff. love it.

who cares   Weekend Warrior [Dec 23, 2005]
Strength:

frame looks like it could take tank fire and still work, comes with quality compnents, great price, good rear shock, 8 inch brakes, perfect travel

Weakness:

front fork...just beeing picky but could have some more adjustments...and a bit of a better feel...but again jsut beeing picky and with the money you save you can buy another fork

this bike is great for who its intended for...people who just bike for the fun of it, and dont do competitions. as stated on the devincis website, this is a "sport mountain bike", or one for beginer-intermedates. that beeing said however, this bike has a perfectly good frame, and qualility components that you wouldn't expect on a 960 dollar bike (fox shox, SRAM X-7 compnents, hayes/avid 8inch disc brakes(mechanical), and can be used for any type of riding except extreme free ride or downhill, where more travel would be nice. the bike shines on trails, but can do rougher stuff liek jumps/larger drop offs. all in all i would recomend this bike to anyone looking to get into the sport, or any one who wants a quality bike bike, but doesn't have the money to go for something more full out, or anyone who needs a good bike but realises he can get this instead of a 1500 dollar+ bike with identical quality. 5 for value, only 4 because for an extra 100 dollars, a much nicer fork could be included, liek a pike, whihc would be nice, and whihc im sure no one would mind paying.
