Fast and strong Shimano Drivetrain, comfy trigger shifters, 65mm traveling fork is good for sandy and hard pack conditions, knobby tires are good in sand, hard pack, and even about 3 in. of snow, Rims are very solid, has the standardized disc brake mount screw holes in the back so you can easily replace rear v brakes with good discs. Overall insanely good bike for $200 price tag!!!

Brakes are disappointing but easily replaceable, derailleurs (especially front) need more frequent adjustment than my friend's Diamondback Overdrive 26er, seat is uncomfortable, and the tapered handlebar is not that comfy compared to those cool flat ones on Treks. Definitely none of these weaknesses should turn you away from the Comanche 29

Overall a great bike for the price tag, and the granddaddy of all department store beginner bikes, any beginner XC mountain cyclist should be able to deal with the minor Weaknesses this bike has and enjoy the strengths. I've got about 85 miles on my Jeep Comanche 29er so far and it still runs smooth as long as I adjust my derailleurs and clean the rear vbrake rim surface. I even crashed it into a deep sandy rut and the rear derailleur got crushed under the bike and got sand in it, it still got me home (1 mile) in time to take it apart and clean the sand out of the cassette, chain, and rear derailleur before something bad happened, after the cleansing the drivetrain ran even smoother than before. In conclusion, this bike takes harsh beatings that other department store bikes would lose components and performance over and still runs like a hybrid on pavement. This is truly the Jeep Comanche of mountain bikes (if you know the real 1980's Jeep Comanche pickup truck) and don't let the low price tag and crummy brakes turn you away from this deal!
