6066 T6 Aluminum ride feels like steel; Shimano SLX components; Oval Concepts 600 series cockpit: custom butted, shot-peened/ ball-burnished 7050 flat bar, 2014 T6 stem and post are better than you think; solo air fork better than expected, rear brake mounted to chainstay, not seatstay; short 17.5" chainstays , just part of the exceptional geometry that comes from over 30 years experience designing and building mountain bikes.

Crankset and hydraulic disc brakes are not SLX, but i'm picking nits. I haven't seen anything better for the price. Oh, and sadly the graphics are not the deco schwinn-style cue-ball style :( Oh, and the plastic cog-guard has got to go! I kept thinking my rear brake rotor was loose.

If you are in the market for a 29er hardtail for around a grand, i don't see how you could do much better than the Jetstream Comp.
The first time i test-rode a Breezer i couldn't stop laughing. I've tried a lot of very nice mountain bikes, but never had that experience of the certain "x-factor" that makes Breezers feel giddy-fun. This is the first Breezer i have bought since my '97 Thunder (a 26" steel XT-equipped bike), and i'm in love all over again.
The specs are well though-out, and really good for the price. A year later, looking at everything that is out there, i'd buy the same bike again, and i'm really picky, so that says a lot. I saw an interview with Joe Breeze where he was talking about his carbon 29ers, and at the end he said, "But wait till you see my aluminum bikes that feel like steel," and it does- but with the lateral stiffness and lower weight "flickability" of aluminum (it weighs right around 25lbs).
Also, people constantly yell "nice bike!" If you get one, be prepared to attract a lot of attention. I've had two people ask straight up, "will you sell me that bike?" -- no kidding. It's very simple - not a lot of "bells and whistles", still people are very attracted to it (i.e. buy a good lock!) The nearly 2" fat downtube and the color combo makes for one pimp ride. and i suppose its the more compliant 6066 frame material along with legendary geometry, but whatever it is, it has that elusive "magical" Breezer quality.
