WTB Breakout 27.5 Tires

DESCRIPTION

At a claimed 2.5 inches, the Breakout packs some serious heft and clearly alludes to the tire’s all-mountain intentions. The tire’s generously sized casing is home to a tread pattern that should roll much more nimbly than its girth suggests. Tightly-packed center knobs keep moving right along, while more-agressive side knobs come into play in the corners.

Strength:

very large volume when used with i35 carbon rims. As big as some + tires. Outstanding climbing and braking traction on rocky terrain. Capable of being ran in 20-22 psi without any squirmy feeling. Only being used on the rear of my Niner RIP RDO. They roll very well with the closely spaced knobs. They set up tubeless perfectly. This review is for the TCS Light version.

Weakness:

none so far.

So pleased with the first one, I ordered a 2nd for my other RIP RDO that also have been converted over to 27.5 + wheels.

Strength:

Rolls fast

Weakness:

Loses traction in corners
Poor wet traction

These tires came on my Bronson. They worked pretty well at first, but as I got used to the bike and started pushing it harder in the turns, I started to lose the back tire. The first ride I did after a light rain, which did little more than dampen the dirt, I noticed the back tire breaking loose a lot. Slightly damp redwood loam usually makes for the ultimate traction, but not with the Breakout.

My setup: I weigh 190 lbs. I'm running the 2.3 TCS tires tubeless on an SC Bronson on WTB i23 rims. 28 PSI front and 30 PSI rear.
