It is very strongly built. I have complete confidence using it with four hefty mountain bikes.

Assembly was very simple, but it does require some basic tools (e.g. adjustable wrench).

One side has a downtube strap, so it minimizes bikes swinging while stopping/accelerating.

It can swing down so you can open your hatch/rear doors without having to remove it.

Non-standard frames require the use of an adapter, but other hanging-style racks require this as well. Performance sells the adapters for a low price, so it's not a big weakness.

The hitch pin is a non-standard, threaded bolt, so i can't use my standard locking hitch pin to prevent thieves from walking off with it.

The saddles eventually wear out and the rubber nubs break off. I had a heck of a time finding replacements, and Performance was unhelpful. I finally found them on They're the same mounts as the SportRack Escape. You can also use the Yakima DoubleDown saddles on this rack, since it's the same tube diameter.

It's a good rack that hasn't let me down. However, being able to buy replacement parts is a necessity since rubber doesn't last forever. Here is where Performance needs to step up and make replacement parts more available. I called their customer service line and they told me to order them through the local shop. When I went to the shop, they told me to call the customer service line. DOH!
