Favorite Trail:any thing where gravity helps
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:some bike show years
Strengths:resonably comfy, strongly built and didnt cost the earth, spangly glitter. have used this saddle for years on ht's, FS bikes, down hill bikes about the only thing it hasnt been on is a road bike. am changing it now only cos i'm having a bit of a weight freak out on my xc Ht and want a lighter saddle. rather surprised by all the negative reviews but notice alot of them are from people who havn't owned ot for long.
Weaknesses:bit heavey and wold have liked it slightly longer for on the nose climbing
Similar Products Used:been so long i cant recall what my last saddle was though i doo recall having another WTB saddle before this until i destroyed it in a dh crash, my dh bike has a titec berserker saddle which is also an oldie but goodie
Bike Setup:cove handjob xc, juicy 5's, use seatpost mavic cross ride wheels. maz 100mm forks.
Bottom Line:liked it. still in good nick after years of use and only being changed cos i wana get the weigth of the bike down. will be keeping it and will go on my next bike.

Weaknesses:without a hole = sweaty ass ;)
Bike Setup:was GT outpost trail, is GT zaskar team

Submitted by Nosmo King a Cross Country Rider from Santa Rosa, CA
Date Reviewed: May 23, 2004
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $65.00
Purchased At:Supergo, pretty sure
Strengths:Reasonably light, Ti rails, very comfy, cool perforated leather cover.
Weaknesses:Perforated leather let some mud in the holes and was harder to clean, but what the heck. It looked cool.
Similar Products Used:Lots of Selle Italia, many Specialized seats, Bontragers thru the years...
Bike Setup:K2 Razorback, XT
Bottom Line:I also wanted to put in a good word for this saddle, which has been my favorite MTB saddle and lasted thru 3 bikes and over 5,000 off-road miles. I have a feeling a lot of the low-scorers below don't ride much. I prefer non-squishy, performance type seats, and this one fits the bill. About 270 grams, not feather light but not bad. Needed a replacement since I finally wore thru the leather on this one, found a leather/Ti SST on Ebay for $50. Hatin' life after 9 hours on my road bike this weekend, going to shop for a WTB for that bike too.

Strengths:Pretty cheap, comfy
Weaknesses:A little heavy I guess
Similar Products Used:I forget, but I hated it...
Bottom Line:I love this saddle. I don't know about everybody else who apparently hates it, but mine has served me well. I even bought a SST for my road bike, based on my happyness with this one. My next bike is definately getting a WTB saddle too.

Favorite Trail:Hole-in-the-Ground
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Strong, long life, comfortable, inexpensive
Weaknesses:heavier
Similar Products Used:WTB SST.XR, Selle Italia Flite Max, Fizik, etc...
Bottom Line:I had to add my opinion of this saddle to counteract the mass quantities of negative reviews... This has always been my favorite saddle. I feel that I have a fairly sensitive arse, I have tried many different saddles and always come back to this one. I never have numbness or problems going off the back. Plus, you can hit your local bike stores and find these saddles cheap 'cause they were pulled off as stock saddles on other bikes. The only problem is that it is kinda heavy. I'm trying a SST.2K next...

Purchased At:Local shop gave it to me.
Strengths:Almost indestructable. Great for climbinng. Allows for that special 'between the cheeks' positioning quickly for the tricky climbs.
Weaknesses:Not the most comfortable on long rides.
Similar Products Used:Specialized
Bike Setup:Specialized Rock Hopper
Bottom Line:I hated the seat the bike came with so the shop gave me this as it had a slight tear in the fabric.

The rails finally gave out on me after 2 years. I weigh 220 so am impressed it made it this far.

Submitted by Tequila Joe a Cross Country Rider from Calgary
Date Reviewed: August 9, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Came with bike
Strengths:Could be used as an anvil to hammer steel on.
Weaknesses:Provided a "kicked in the crotch feeling" after a short 2 hour, light trail ride. This is WBT's contribution to help control the world population explosion. I had absolutly no desire for nookie for 48 hours after riding on this seat.
Similar Products Used:Nothing can compare to this seat. Perhaps if I could bolt a brick onto my seat post, I might be able to compare notes.
Bike Setup:Diamondback Coil SS. Stock setup except for a new Velo Plush seat to replace this piece of crap.
Bottom Line:I road on this seat for 2 hours yesterday and that was enough to promt me to buy a new one the very next day. After 48 hours, my butt still hurts! I don't know which would be more painfull a 2 hour ride on this seat or taking a 6 foot drop into the seat post. Buy this seat and send it to your worst enemy.

Strengths:Bludgeoning your enemies to death!! New form of torture.
Weaknesses:Not fit for the human as*!!
Similar Products Used:Rocks, boulders, dry earth.
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Marlin stock except seat.
Bottom Line:I have only had my new bike now for less than a month. However, after the first time I sat on this saddle I did not want to sit down again. It has made me not want to sit on the bike and ride at all!! Right now I'm waiting for my new seat to come in and for nice weather appear here in New England. I have rode on this seat for as short as 15 minutes and as long as one hour so far, and in any case I feel used and beaten when I get off the saddle. On trails...geez, I feel like I just got out of Levenworth where previously Bubba was my momma.

Weaknesses:50 hours after my last ride I still feel like I was victimized in the showers at Chino penitentary.
Similar Products Used:Nothing yet.
Bike Setup:GF Joshua F3. Some stock, some not.
Bottom Line:My posterier hasn't hurt like this since that hazing at the local Harley riders club. I've used this thing for years since I figured that's what the tough and cool bikers were suppose to do. Little did I know that the smart bikers go and buy a real saddle and use this thing as a murder weapon to baffle police. "Looks like he was bludgeoned, bbut the only thing in here is a bike seat. What the hell? This thing is harder than a baseball bat!"
3 piles of flaming toe jam because, frankly, I'd like to believe it cost me nothing, moneywise. 1 pile of flaming toe jam since after giving it the old college try for a lot of years, it's still a pain in the tuckus.

Weaknesses:Cheap, weak, hard as a brick,
Similar Products Used:A 12 year old gel saddle, that is now on my new bike.
Bike Setup:Stock 02 Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo, Other than the saddle!
Bottom Line:Don't even walk out the door with this one. This hunk-o-junk came with my Hoo Koo, you would think that Fisher would use a better saddle. If this comes on a bike you are going to purchase, trade it before laying down your good hard cash.

Strengths:It's a little better than sitting on a rock
Weaknesses:This is a poorly put together, uncomfortable, cheap seat
Bike Setup:saddle was stock on a Gary Fisher
Bottom Line:Avoid this seat. On the first ride took a small spil - the rails bent and cover tore. Within one week three of the staples which hold the cover in place came out. This is a garbage saddle - - if you buy a fisher with this seat insist that the store swap out with a better saddle!

Strengths:better than riding on seatpost
Weaknesses:rails are really weak, cover thing comes off easy, uncomfortable, looks stupid, etc.
Similar Products Used:bontrager fs+10
Bike Setup:tassajara mostly stock
Bottom Line:The rails bend really easily. within the first month I had one endo at slow speed, and the rails bent. I bent it back some of the way and rode it for another few weeks before getting my new saddle. its really uncomfortable too. I dont find it incredibly hard like some people, but it is harder than other seats. it just plain sucks. I am very dissapointed that fisher put a seat like this on a quality frame. but then again, alot of the other components arnt top notch, but it is an inexpensive bike.

Strengths:Comfortable enough.
Weaknesses:Staples that hold cover to plastic on saddle started coming out after about 5 rides. Cover started to come off. Bike so far has not been involved in fall or any trail abuse.
Similar Products Used:Avocet. Never had a product defect with Avocet products.
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher
Bottom Line:Very dissapointed to see such a cheap product on a expensive new Gary Fisher bike. To me it takes away from a otherwise superior bike. After owning the bike for about four weeks I am trying to mend a brand new seat that had not failed due to trail damage, but through faulty construction/design/whatever. Based on my experience, I would never individually purchase another WTB saddle and would ask for it to be removed if it came on another bike.

Weaknesses:it's a little hard
Similar Products Used:avenir, k mart gell
Bike Setup:American Eagle spokanne, xt/deore, manitou sx-r
Bottom Line:the saddle looks cool enough to keep, it is a little hard at first, but you get used to it quick enough. If you do any down hill or freeriding consider something else, it probabally won't last long. I've crashed pretty hard a couple of times and it hasn't torn yet, the plastic under the seat looks neat and clean, no staples holding the fabric on. I'd recommend it to almost anybody.

Cheap, light.
Weaknesses:Seems too hard when sitting parked in the bike shop.
Similar Products Used:San marco, specialized various models, fad stupid wide cushy saddles long ago.
Bike Setup:Proflex 855
Bottom Line:I thought I was gonna die when i bought this and felt how hard it was in the rear area.
Amazingly I was not sore at all after riding all day. Usually I can feel it big time the day after, but not with this seat. It's all a matter of what fits your butt really. The sst x is a little wider than the sst, and any seat sitting at the wrong angle is going to clobber you. The comfort zone really helps to keep the johnson plumbing from being mashed around. You can feel the bones in your butt are what you are sitting on, rather than the tissue between. I always wind up destroying seats in crashes, so a comfortable seat for so cheap is just the thing for me.

It looks cool, doesent make you sore, is cheap, and says 'wtb' on it for posing value, what more do you want?

That didn't matter much, since I'm a roadie and used my Fisher for cross-training during the summer. But winter's coming in, and I now mainly use my Fisher. Bike Setup:2000 Gary Fisher Tassajera
Bottom Line:This piece of crap came stock on my bike. Gary Fisher may as well have put no seat on (at least it would save me the trouble of having to remove it to throw it in the trash). After an hour of riding on this seat, my butt was so sore that it was painful to ride the next day. This was riding about 5 miles on road and about 7 mile off. Unless you have a big but, stay away from this waste of space. It will give you absolutley no comfort and probably do serious damage to your body with prolonged use. Weaknesses:Tough on your toosh. Very very stiff for longer rides. I was hurting noticeably after 17 miles of riding.
Similar Products Used:Terry Ti-Race Liberator
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Kaitai
Bottom Line:
Hey, need a hammer? I got one covered in leather with cromoly steel rails and weighs around 275g. Thank goodness I didn't pay for this brick-like saddle as it came default with the Kaitai bike. I thought just like everyone else that I'd get used to it, break it in, after a few rides. Boy, I couldn't have made a bigger mistake with that idea. If you ride a lot off the seat, then you wouldn't notice it as much. I usually ride for 2 hours (1-3 days a week) and average 10 miles per trip on the trails. The last time I sat on the WTB SST.X I went for approximately 17 miles. There was a stretch of dirt trail that was flat and sandy, and that was when I started to notice the pain riding up my posterior end. That made the decision for me and the next day I went to the store for some better advice and was pointed to the Terry Ti-Race Liberator. My pain from the WTB SST.X actually subsided a bit when riding on the Ti-Race Liberator. I wouldn't recommend WTB SST.X to even my worst enemy. Great for a hammer replacement.

Buy it if you A) cycle standing exclusively, B) ride a seriously suspended bike, and/or C) just like to look at your bike anyway.
Weaknesses:On first impression, about as comfortable as that Bontrager bike thong I bought on the Lewinsky Cycling website. Feels like I'm sitting on wooden bleachers.
Don't buy it if you A) have a silly aversion to unnecessary pain, B) would rather pay someone to just wack your butt with a board for thirty bucks, and or C) kinda like the way your butt feels after sitting through an hour sermon on wooden pews.

Bottom Line:poor quality - mine started coming unglued after about a month. vinyl is slippery when wet and the sides tear easily if you go down on rocks. it's a bit too wide if you have even semi-muscular thighs.
however, it is still reasonably comfortable on rides of 1 hour or less - longer than that and plan on chaffed inner thighs and a numb fanny. it is inexpensive. it will last at least a season with the aid of superglue and duct tape.
the sloped nose is great - that and the price make it worth a look.

Strengths:+ Partly comfortable

Weaknesses:- Not an improvement over the original SST
- Badly shaped nose
Similar Products Used:Original SST
Bike Setup:Fisher
Bottom Line:This saddle is shorter than the original SST, which I don't like. The angle of the seat is OK but it seems like I always end up sitting on the skinny part. Also, the shape of the nose isn't very good. On the original SST I could really shift my weight forward. On this one when I try to do that, it goes up my butt.

I'll give it 4 stars for value, because even though it came on my bike I know it can be bought for pretty cheap. Three stars overall, go with the original SST. This one isn't bad, just a bit of a downgrade.

Strengths:Fits the shape of my ass. Mine also has red rails which match the bike but that's by accident. Cheaper than a Brooks, and showerproof.
Weaknesses:Not as light as my old Vetta SL. People might think I got the red rails to match the bike on purpose.
Similar Products Used:Lots of diffferent seats
Bike Setup:Touring bike, with seat affixed to seat post in seat tube (my long distance bike, also sees some off road), with 200 lb rider on top of that
Bottom Line:The bottom line, so to speak, is that the seat fits when a lot of other seats I tried don't. 5 chilis for value cause I got it cheap from the take-off saddle bin at the bike shop near work. I'll take comfort over lightness in a seat any day, cause it's the most important rider/bike interface. I'm going to go back and buy another for the other bike.

That is not to say I feel no pain--at 215 pounds I have a lot of pounds per square inch. I just experience less pain and burning than any other saddle. It works so well for me, that I bought another one for my other bike thru Gear.com for $24.

Bottom Line:I don't get all the reviews saying this thing is so uncomfortable and hard. I'm 205 lbs., and this is the best saddle I've ever found. I use it for road, mountain, commuting on a fixed gear (which is the toughest butt pounding of all, due to no coasting/raising off the saddle). The SST.X fits me wonderfully after lots of experimentation. So, I suggest that those who complain about the fit of this saddle just go find something they like better. The manufacturing isn't the best on this - others are more durable, lighter weight, "better" materials. But, hey, you can get this baby for about $25 bucks if you look hard enough, so you can afford to try it. Worst case - sell it on mtbr to guys like me who are converts; I'm trying to buy another one right now!

Bottom Line:My bike came with an SST, and I loved it. I wore it out after a year or so, but could never find an identical replacement. I compromised with a Selle Italia Flite with titanium rails, which was hellishly expensive and not at all comfortable, even after using it for a year. The other day I got a chance to buy an SST X, and I took it out for a trial run this weekend. Despite the increased weight and the inexpensive vinyl cover, this saddle beats the Flite hands down. My butt is happier than it's been in months. Oh, and there are no Kevlar corners to get filthy and soggy, but the rails are a wonderful bright red. And since it costs about a third as much as the Flite, I can always get a new one if I rip it in a crash.

Bottom Line:I never thought I would actually have something meaningful to say about any saddle, but after a year of great (i.e. brutal) riding, here I am singing praises for my SST.X. First and foremost, this thing is tough. I bent two saddles on my old bike within about 2-3 months of hard riding. I really don't think I am extremely heavy (180 lbs), but my old saddles crumpled like empty aluminum cans. And the exterior fabric (leather or pleather) tore and ripped very easily. I think some of my past experiences have to do with the way I used to ride (i.e. lots of bouncing up and down on the saddle - now I stay on the seat for the most part), but I was still very disenchanted with the performance of my old saddle. But my Klein came with the SST.X and I haven't even noticed it - which is good. No tears or rips and the warping or bending in sight (evem after I slammed my fist down on the seat after I just wrecked). As I said - tough as the Bill Clinton Legal Defense Team. And best of all, I don't feel sore the next day even after a long, rocky ride. Couldn't be happier!!

all you people complaining about saddels being to hard well shut the hell up. Who the hell cares if your ass hurts after a ride. Thats the whole point of Mountain Biking, is when you are knocked down or you hurt then you deal with it, you can wuss out and walk your bike home or you could take it like a real mountain biker, and get back on your bike and ride for the fun, thrill, and pain.
Well thats enuf of my complaining, I have had this saddel for about 5 months and i love the thing, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, I have to say that WTB has made a friend with me. Just got the SST.X with their comfort zonce, which is a cutout in the nose, but way better than a Terry 'cause I don't fall into the hole like with the terry saddle. My naughty bits have never been happier! No numbness, no discomfort, just plain joy. My bike feels like a whole different animal, and I can ride for hours, days, weeks and nothing hurts anymore (except when I crash, and thats a whole different story). My boyfriend rode this saddle and liked it so much he got one too! His riding buddies scored some after riding his. My grrrl riding buddies are on them too. I find it amazing that one saddle can do so much for both sexes. WTB has increased their padding too. I called them because I was concerned about some of the reviews, and they said that by popular demand, there will be more padding to the people! That's so cool. Boys, Girls, this seat is the dope. Gotta go ride.

One of these came with my '97 Attitude. I initially replaced it with a Selle Bassano I had on an older bike. After reading about concerns regarding impotence and noticing that I did experience occasional penile numbness on long, seated climbs, I switched back to the SST.X with the prostate drop. No more numbness up front, but my butt got numb, and it hurt because of the hard saddle, particularly towards the rear, though I like the shape. The SST.X has more padding than other WTB saddles, including the SST.98, according to their website, though I may try the SST.98 because it seems softer and I like the drop nose, a great idea. Overall for the SST.X, 3 chiles. Finding a saddle that fits one's anatomy is, well, a pain in the ass.

Okay. This saddle came standard on my '98 ATX 970. At first, I thought that a housebrick covered in vinyl would be more comfortable. Shit, it was hard. But, after riding with it for a week or so, and once I got used to it, I now find it quite comfortable. I hardly feel any pain in the arse, even after a 30+km ride over rough singletrack/downhill, and I have yet to experience numb-nuts syndrome.Looks great, and so far, after 8 weeks, it still looks like new, but the jury is really still out on durability. My experience is with the SST.X Ti rail saddle with leather cover.
This is a bit wider than the reg SST saddle, which I tried on loan from a friend. It has enough more padding to make it more comfortable, and is a little wider in the rear too, and is a lot more comfortable than the reg SST, at least to my butt! On a 16.8 mi ride recently with a lot of roots and rocks and seated climbs it really made the difference. The titanium rails have more give than the cro-mo rails, and being noticeably lighter they made the bike easier to control with my thighs when standing. Best saddle I've ever ridden, even though
it was $64.95!!! No Kevlar sides even, bummer...

This saddle is pretty good, I thought it wasn't as good as the higher SST, because this is ade of vinyl and shitty rails, but it was pretty good, it has good shock absorption and looks pretty cool, however, the cheap vinyl was used in moderation and is held in by a plastic retention device, and the vinyl started coming out, it is pretty comfortable on the prostate, but on long rides, my ass starts hurting, not as bad as other saddles, and I wish they could make the shape more to a real SST, because these are shorter and have less dip in the nose, I also question how much longer this seat will last, I've only had it a week!
