Favorite Trail:The ones out my front door
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Comfortable, doesn't hurt my sit bones. Looks good.
Weaknesses:Price?
Similar Products Used:Bontrager Select that came with my bike.
Bike Setup:07 Trek Fuel EX6, WTB PureV, Specialized Eskar front, The Captain rear.
Bottom Line:I'm a bigger guy, 6'1", 195lbs and this saddle is great for me. I can ride for hours and not be sore. At first it seemed a little wide to get behind it on the really steep downhills but I've gotten used to it and don't notice the width anymore (my old saddle was very narrow). I would definitely recommend this saddle to anyone looking for a little more comfort than a race saddle offers.

Favorite Trail:Are you kidding?
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $50.00
Strengths:It's surprisingly comfortable. Shape looks good with many bikes, although color options could be a little wider. Rails do not crimp easily. Can take surprising amounts of torque without breaking. Strong material. Center channel makes it pleasant to sit on.
Weaknesses:Weaknesses? Well, the nose digs into my... uh... on longer rides. I used to ride this thing without chamois.
Similar Products Used:WTB Silverado, Selle Italia X0
Bottom Line:This thing has great value and versatility. Black does go with anything, although some things are better complimented with color.
Surprisingly comfortable, even without pants with chamois. Not recommended, but it works. The thing hurts after three hours in normal pants. (Not a great comparison, but I had to let people know.) Center channel is very ergonomic. Material survived repeated abuse from nasty wipeouts, especially rear, where the WTB and PureV logos are printed.
Great saddle.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Performance
Strengths:Comfort
Weaknesses:Durability
Similar Products Used:Koobi enduro, Selle Italia Trans Am Flite
Bike Setup:5 Spot, not-so light build
Bottom Line:The synthetic interior panels wore very fast and peeled away from the saddle in a number of places. A very comfortable saddle became a complete mess in a matter of 3 rides (after 1 year of use).

No wrecks to blame it on. I tend to baby my equipment, especially this last year with a minimal amount of riding compared to previous years, so this seemed to be premature to me. Had this saddle lasted another season, it might have gotten higher ratings, but one season seems too fast to have to replace it.

Strengths:lots o padding
Weaknesses:seams are in a bad spot.
Similar Products Used:flite, selle italia, SDG, WTB
Bike Setup:Salsa Big Mama
Bottom Line:For the couple months I only went on shorter rides of 2.5 hours or less and it worked well. Went on a 4+ hour ride(saddle time) the other day and could not sit down for 2 days. The seams on the seat created a very distinct rub and swelling for 4 days. I have a hard time even looking at the seat without a shiver going through my body.

Strengths:Looks cool, super comfy.
Weaknesses:None...?

oh! oh! weight.

Bike Setup:GT avalanche 1.0, SLX crank and brakeset, Amoeba straight seatpost, Truvativ XC straight OS bar, zoom sidebar, mavic 117 with deore hubs on maxxis detonators.
Bottom Line:GOOD. As i got it stock from the GT avalanche 1.0, best combo of value, looks, comfort.

Cant see something bad about it other than weight. Which i think is worth the comfort.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Very comfortable. The neck is skinny so your legs are free to pedal. Came with my Avalanche 1.0. Much better than the WTB Speed V on my older GT bike.
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:WTB Speed V
Bike Setup:Stock Avalanche 1.0
Bottom Line:Great saddle, perfect for my sit bones. No soreness or numbness. Neck on the Speed V is too wide and doesn't provide the cushion needed for my sit bones. Pure V is perfect!

Strengths:It's black????
Weaknesses:It's weak and heavy
Similar Products Used:too many to list, however I'm running with a Titec Hellbent now
Bike Setup:Diamondback hardtail, nothing left stock.
Bottom Line:The saddle came with my bike, I dont know if it was the Pure V Race, or Pro, or Stealth, all I know is that it should be called Pure Crap! the rails seem to be made of spaghetti, and it weighs a ton! I could forgive the weight if it was strong, however the rails collapsed riding off a 3 inch curb, rubbish!!!

This saddle is bloody awesome for me, it cost $40 so who cares if i smash 1 a year, thats if i break one and its got a pounding so far.

Far better than paying $200 for one that doesnt work.

Date Reviewed: July 28, 2008
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Comfortable, simple, good looking design
Weaknesses:None as far as I'm concerned
Bike Setup:Cove hardtail, Rock Shox Reba fork, Kenda Nevegal 2.35 rear tire
Bottom Line:I've ridden on this saddle for just over a year on my steel hardtail and I can honestly say that I've never felt any discomfort due to the saddle. It's soft enough to be comfortable and firm enough to be supportive. I have been on several 3+ hour rides and whether it is long sustained climbs, rolling smooth singletrack, or nasty rocky descents the saddle has always been great.

The durability has been great through roots, rocks, crashes, and small drops (2' or less), and it still looks just about as good as new. All in all I would say this saddle has been as good as I could have asked for. When it comes time to get a new bike, I can say for certain that the saddle will be a WTB Pure.

Date Reviewed: June 21, 2008
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $59.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Whale tail design, durability, looks good - black w/silver trim matches my bike
Weaknesses:love channel could extend a little more forward
Similar Products Used:Bontrager stock garbage that came on my Trek (one of the worst saddles ever - designed by sadists), Terry Fly (shape around cutout caused too much pressure and didn't work for me), Specialized BG on my road bike - great but costs >2X as much as this one
Bike Setup:Trek 4900 hardtail, semi-slicks
Bottom Line:I ride mostly for fitness training on light trails. No signs of significant wear after 2+ years. The whale tail design fits my sits bones and I can handle riding 3+ hours at a time on it. The love channel is just adequate and doesn't always relieve enough pressure if I'm leaning forward for awhile in a more agressive riding posture, but overall I'm satisfied with this saddle for the price.

Strengths:Excellent support, I think it looks good, price

I have the one with chrome trim, yes it matches polished aluminum and no, it has not shown any sign of wearing off after about 40 hours in the saddle.
Weaknesses:might be too squishy for some and the back might be too wide for some
Similar Products Used:OE Speed V (two of them), some old specialized roadie saddle that I'm hoping to replace
Bike Setup:hardtail, 2.1" rear tire. I usually wear fox baggy (above the knee) shorts. My saddles get set up sloping just the slightest bit backward overall.
Bottom Line:I really like this saddle, doesn't deserve the 3/5 it has as I write this imo. This is wider than most saddles in back, and seems to have a bit stretchier cover, making it a pretty soft seat. I'm 6'2" 180 lbs and I usually feel like my sit bones are a little wide for most seats when the going gets rough. Not this one, just right and seems to cradle everything together. I find that a lot of seats can really drill you when you hit a bump right, but this seat has around an inch of "travel," I know this because the top of my thomson seat post is about an inch from the cover when i'm not sitting on it and I can actually see in the dust marks that the seat has flexed enough for the post to just barely touch it. It feels much less slippery than my OE wtb seat, which supports the parts more securely while pedaling (keeps them out of the thigh/seat interface).

My verdict: great seat for a hardtail when comfort is higher on the list than a 30 second efficiency advantage of some hard slippery seat over the course of a 2-hour ride.

Does it make sense that steel seat rails got BENT from a person just sitting on the seat and not even doing a drop? ahem improper installation

Favorite Trail:Observation Point
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Stock on '06 Heckler
Strengths:Comfortable, I had no issues with the cover.
Weaknesses:I crushed the seat on a fairly mellow drop-in. I didn't even feel the impact that severely bent both rails. I am a big guy at 250lbs, but you would think I would feel the hit that bent a seat.
Similar Products Used:'99 WTB SST - never had a problem with this seat. Cover held up after many crashes. Rails are still straight. I am using this seat again after bending the Pure V.
Bike Setup:'06 SC Heckler
Bottom Line:I obviously need something stronger. Comfort and cover durability is good, rails are weak. May be a good saddle for someone lighter than me. It's tough to judge value since it was a stock seat.

Bottom Line:Product have been damaged seriously when used for Light XC and Road only. The front rail snapped out of the saddle with a light lift when crossing water pit. Have to spend 2 hours in woods to fix it. No option but to cut of the front plastic to force the rail back to the saddle. Strengths:Comfortable yet small enough to move around the saddle.
Weaknesses:Back edge of the saddle is a sharp contour which made me soar when I was doing a lot of ridding over the back end of the saddle.
Similar Products Used:WTB Speed V Comp
Bike Setup:Ibex Apogee LX
Bottom Line:This saddle came stock on my Apogee and initially I though it was lacking in padding. I rode a SPeed V comp for a while but that was very difficult to get off the back with on technical stuff. I switched back to this and found it very comfortable to ride even for my large frame. Its holding up good so far though I've had past problems with bending WTB Chro molly rails.
