Favorite Trail:off the top, mammoth mountain
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Strengths:cheap, worked ok
    Weaknesses:inconsistent release/entry, broke
    Similar Products Used:tested Shimano 959
Bike Setup:Cannondale Prophet 400, Marzocchi fork, Manitou shock, SRAM/Shimano drivetrain
Bottom Line:Alright for entry level clipless, but upgrade if you can. They came with my old bike and they lasted for a while until they broke on a rock, now i have an excuse to get some Crank Brothers Acids. I never messed with the release tension much, but even on the easiest setting the release was sketchy. Serious riders should look somewhere else.

    Favorite Trail:Gap Creek
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $24.00
    Purchased At:torpedo7
    Strengths:cheap, works OK
Weaknesses:Mud. needed strip down and re-grease out of the box.
    Similar Products Used:BMX flats, resin
    Bike Setup:Avanti Montari, Grimeca discs.
Bottom Line:Poor QC at the factory. I've never had problem clipping in or out (except the steep 5-crash clipless learning curve at the start). However, just after my trial run, the left started clicking. Pulled it apart, and there was no grease in the outer bearing. Pulled the other one apart too, and regreased both. Now I really like them, and would never go back to flats. The actual construction is fine (spindle, cups etc).

    Strengths:They work...just.
    Weaknesses:They don't work very well.
    Similar Products Used:Shimano SPD
    Bike Setup:DB
Bottom Line:You get what you pay for. Bearings are rubbish, can be difficult to clip in sometimes. More importantly, can be hard to clip out of sometimes. I use them on my racer now, to scared to use them on mtb, afraid i'll get stuck. In there defence though, I am still using the cleats that came with my Shimano pedals, which are meant to be interchangeable. The pedals come with cleats, so probably using them will help this problem of clipping out in a hurry...

    Strengths:Cheap
Weaknesses:The bearings are really really rough. I don't know if it is symptomatic of brand new pedals, but all my previous pedals have been sweet from the word go...

    Bike Setup:Kona Hardtail XT/Deore
Bottom Line:Ok i guess as entry level, disappointing that they are so stiff

    Date Reviewed: June 11, 2005
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $20.00
    Purchased At:Jenson USA
    Strengths:Price is low, Extremely adjustable
    Weaknesses:Durability might be an issue?
Similar Products Used:Eggbeaters, and shimano m520s
Bike Setup:Trek 4900, Sun Singletrack rims laced to XT hubs, Avid BB7 discs, Eggbeater pedals
Bottom Line:These is a perfect set for someone who wants to try clipless for the first time. They are inexpensive and pretty durable, mine took 6 months of hard abuse bouncing off rocks, stumps and whatever else is around, the front retaining piece finally broke off. Like others have said they release kind of rough compared to others but if this your first set of clipless, you won't even notice

    Favorite Trail:Rothrock State Forest
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Round House in Bozeman, MT
Strengths:Extreamely simple adjustability. There's a little "meter" on the pedal that tells you how hard they are set.
Weaknesses:Not the best with clearing mud.

Part of pedal that actually grabs the cleat broke off on mine (see below). This part should be stronger/larger than it is.
Similar Products Used:Replaced these with Shimano PD-M520's
Bike Setup:C-Dale hardtail, stock except for pedals (Shimano PD-M520) and wheels (Mavic x238 with deore hubs)
Bottom Line:These pedals are decent pedals for a beginner rider, or for something cheap to get you by for a few months. They were my first set of clipless pedals and I liked them when I had them, as I had never ridden anything else.

In retrospect they don't release as nicely as my Shimano's do, which is how I broke them (trying to force my way out of them quickly). I rode them for about 4 months of hard abuse. I bounced them off of countless rocks and took them through the mud. They aren't sealed very well for muddy or wet riding, when I took them off the bearings on one of them were a little rough rolling.

I wouldn't buy them again, especially for the $40 that I payed for them, but they can be had for about half that, and they would be a good cheap pedal to buy to see if you like clip-ins.

    Date Reviewed: February 5, 2005
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $30.00
Strengths:Price! and the shimano compatible cleats.
Easy setup, easy clip-in and out, and easy spring adjustment.
No trouble in mud so far, and no unwanted clipouts yet.
Weaknesses:Black paint comes off after a couple of rides (so what?)
Hard to accurately set up all 4 clip springs to the same tension.
    Bike Setup:XC hardtail
Bottom Line:Worth at least their price.
Great for learning the advantages of clipless pedals without spending the big $$$, if you don't count the grams on your bike.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $20.00
    Purchased At:jensonusa.com
Strengths:Price! they are 20 bucks and plus the came with shimano spd cleats.
Weaknesses:I fell 3 times in the first HOUR, but i'm sure thats my lack of experiance on clipless pedals.
    Similar Products Used:resin pedals
Bike Setup:Giant Rincon spring 04 and my new clipless pedals. I'm working on it just got in to riding.
Bottom Line:well I think for the price of cleats you get both the pedals and the cleats you cant beat it. I recomend these for beginners but not for the more experienced riders you might not get what you want. After I break these or just want to upgrade i'll but down a little more $$ on some different pedals most likely Shimano. Until then we will see how I do.

    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $25.00
    Purchased At:m.e.c.
Strengths:i paid 25.00 can for these pedals, durable enough as i'm 250 lbs and ride fairly hard.
Weaknesses:as you can expect,(for their design)they don't shed mud very well and are very tight until broken in.
    Similar Products Used:platforms
Bottom Line:great pedal for the money,I couldn't find anything even close .I bought a second set after torture testing these,a great value.I ride a lot (mostly xc).once broken in,they clip and unclip very well, but until then, they are pretty tight, even on the lightest setting.(be carefull offroading!)

    Favorite Trail:dagmar
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $25.00
    Purchased At:Cyclepath
Strengths:Excellent first time pedal to use, great value for the price...easy clip to learn on.
Weaknesses:hard to get a proper setting for stiffness, need to play with it quite a bit to get it just right...black paint scratches up really easily...dirt clogs up fairly quickly to make for a hard entry into the clips.
    Bike Setup:treck 4900
Bottom Line:These pedals are excellent pedals to get if you are a first time user of clipless pedals, I used them for one season and have had no real problems with them, and I was very hard on them....after this first year though, I'm ready to get new pedals, as these just don't cut it when you want to go hard.

    Weaknesses:None so far.
    Similar Products Used:Time ATAC, Shimano 737 & 747, Eggs
Bike Setup:Raleigh hardtail set up for commuting.
Bottom Line:The pedals work great for commuting back and forth to work, they are simple & have predicable release. How can I go wrong for $10?
