Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Strengths:Durable

    Bike Setup:1998 GT Aggressor
Bottom Line:I have beat the hell out of these rims for TEN years now and I weigh 220lbs, jumps, curbs, you name it. The front one just recently finally got a tiny bit of warp but that's after 10 years! All this time no loose spokes or any maintainence. The 519s came on the GT and have proven to be very durable.

    Bike Setup:2002 Raliegh
Bottom Line:First of all, this rim is not built to suit your needs, but might be good for someone who can't walk. Anyway, my choice of taking this wheel to the extreme failed and left a Barrage of cap in my face and probably anyone else who used it.

So i was going down hill when all of a sudden i see an obstacle. I was coming at it with a speed of about 15 mph.
Then out of nowhere, BAM!!! I was on the ground, standing up when a see a absoulete bent piece of cap. I live pretty far, so i was walking in pain and a bike in my hands. I hated the wheel so bad i was about to blow in pieces, but i didn't. (100 points for the wheel) A wheel this bad should have been in the local junk store years ago. This stuff is made of sit and can be used for a ventilation cap for a garbage can. Probably won't last.

Anyway, this wheel is recommened for people who own a bike but don't ride it at all and watch day and night. People who are more interested in using their bike, BUY A BETTER ONE. I hurt, so go buy a better one before u r toast.

Bottom Line:I bent 1 rim jumping on the trail. then decided to get these for lighter weight. Did about a 4 inch hop at about 5 mph on a paved trail first time out and bent both rims to the side. Had to stand bike over to bend back enough just to get home.

Bottom Line:when i was 5 years old, my friend told me to stick a paper clip into an electric socket. deep down, i knew it was a bad idea. but i did it anyway. you know what happened next - i got shocked. and a bonus - it started a fire in my elementary school library - true story.

27 years later and i still haven't learned my lesson. i bought the weinmann after reading most of the reviews on this very site. i needed a quick fix. i was in a real bind. i thought, "i'll just be careful on these, until i can afford some better rims. I don't ride that hard anyway" Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Listen to me now, my friends. I bought this absolute piece of crap on a thursday. By monday, i had an abstract piece of art for a rear wheel. mangled rubber, metal and even some flesh - it was beautiful but useless. I only ride on sidewalks. I'm 32 years old with a deep respect for/fear of bodily injury. I don't ride hard, i ride safe.

trust me, DON'T buy a weinmann unless you're 62 years old, about to retire and think that 8mph is too fast. learn from my mistake. i hurt, so you don't have to.

Strengths:they are a cheap replacement for a quick fix if you are in a bind. as for any real product value , the weinmann 519 rims are worthless, pathetic at best.
Weaknesses:these rims are the worst. They never stay true and spokes break off and/or bend by practicaly just looking at em!
I had a rear rim fold like a taco in a matter of 1 month.
you cant even ride off a sidewalk curb with these rims.
I got 5 broken spokes and 2 bent ones. If you cant even hop or ride of a curb in a freakin mountain bike then we might as well be riding road bikes intead.

Bottom Line:I bought these rims to hold my mtb road slicks and cruse around town and the boardwalk. They have held true and are good for what I'm useing them for. I have Sunrims (big fat mammoth) with 2.5 michelins for cross country and single track. Use the right equiptment for the job and you won't encounter any problems. Bottom Line:I am a strong heavy rider and the bike is occasionally used for loaded touring. 95% of the time it is used for commuting. I have had two rear wheels with this rim. The first broke at the spoke insert area. It was also hard to true from the time it was purchased which makes me think it might have had a defect from the beginning. Did not hit anything that should have caused the rim to break. The second rim has stayed true. Currently having custom wheels with Mavic 719 rims and double-butted 14/15 spokes to replace this wheel as I don't want to have a rude surprise when commuting.

    Similar Products Used:Wally World Rims

Bottom Line:These rims are great for light duty stuff, I have used them for trail riding, some urban freeride, (going down stairs, curbing, soem little drops) and I have done drosp with them (about 2 feet) and I have had no problems so far. Like some others said, if your gonna run into curb at 15mph and complain because something went wrong... I like the rim, still perfectly true but havent gotton any bad landings yet.

Another thing is, most rims will do fine, as long as you dont do stupid stuff like land on the right side of the bike, or run into curbing at 15mph. Just land right and enjoy

    Weaknesses:Weaker then a pair of Wal-Mart cheapo's, heavy, ugly.
Similar Products Used:Some Bontrager, Sun Rhyno Lites
Bike Setup:KHS Alite w/ XT and Formula hubs (Hubs also suck), soon to be getting Sun Rhyno Lites with LX hubs.
Bottom Line:These rims suck. Just plain suck. They don't feel solid on a trail, they're heavy, and butt ugly to boot. I don't do any freeride/DH/jumping, just XC racing, and these things seem to come out of true after any sort of trail ride. These rims might be good for cruising the local bike paths and streets, but for anything remotely involving dirt, go pick up a better set. My friend rode his Wal-Mart bike with me on a trail once, and his wheels came out of the ride true, while mine came out off about 5-10mm. I didn't wreck, and neither did he. These rims just suck. Get some new ones if you've currently got them. 1 flaming poop in each category, its not much value if it doesn't work.

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Purchased At:Came with bike
Strengths:Works fine on a commuter bike.
Weaknesses:Brake track is a little narrow, making it harder to adjust your stoppers.
Needs more truing than usual until it breaks in, then it was stable for many years.
Similar Products Used:Mavic, 221, 519, Sun Rhyno-Lite, Rigida and Alex.
Bike Setup:Trek 820 with polished add ons to make it look good for trips to the coffee shop.
Bottom Line:These rims are not crap. I weigh 210lbs and these rims are fine on my "beater bike". I have about 3000 miles on them, and the bike and wheels are about 8 years old with no major problems.
My "beater bike" was my first mountain bike. I bought it about (1995) and it has been used (in the past) to jump curbs and do small drops.
I'm not saying the 519 is a competition rim (it won't hold up like a Mavic F519 or Sun Rhyno-Lite), but it is not a total piece of doo-doo like some people are saying either.
I've used some pretty decent rims over the years, and the key to longevity is keeping the spoke tension even and not too loose, or too tight.
Your drive side spokes on the rear and all the spokes on the front should sound "musical" when plucked. If they sound flat they are too tight, or too loose
    (could be either.)
This talk of spoke tension brings up another point. The biggest problem these 519s have, is that they are almost allways built with cheap no-name spokes, thats one of the reasons why they get out of true so easily until they "break in." Cheap spokes stretch unevenly, leading to more initial truing and a longer break-in time.

I would recommend these rims to someone that wants a good rim for a commuter, cruiser, or light duty mountain bike.

I would not recomend these rims to someone that is doing Dual-Slalom, Free-Riding Down-hill or anything else that involves a lot of "big air."

I'm going to give them a four chili rating for their performance in the intended applications and because some Rigida entry leval rims I once had, were a little bit better.

Bottom Line:I keep reading all of these terrible things about my 519 rim but haven't experienced any problems, and I have the 32 hole version (as opposed to the 36). I will likely buy another for the back when I get the money.
I guess everyone has their own experiences, and who is to say that Mavic's quality control is top notch. I wouldn't know, but I like my 519. But it will only get 4 chili's as it is a teenie bit bent.

Strengths:Look nice on the bike. Mostly made for soft, straight rides.
    Weaknesses:Don't hold together under stress.
    Bike Setup:stock Giant Iguana SE
Bottom Line:For the past couple years I've ridden all types of paved and offroad trails: beginners, intermed, semi-extreme. I'm about 6'2' 180lbs and I like to do a lot of jumping, bunnyhopping. This was the first decent bike I bought and didn't know much about rims at the time. Like I said, they came stock on my Iguana.

They seem to stay relatively round as long as you ride on soft ground and keep the bike straight when you land. If I were you I wouldn't hit any obstacles at over 5-10mph though.

I didn't realize exactly how weak the rims really were until one day I was riding on the roads in my neighborhood on the way to the trails when I decided to B-hop over a sewer drain. I came down with the back-end slightly tweaked (I'm talking only about 3-6 inches) while riding about 5-10 mph and bent the rim.

It's really a shame when you can't make use of a sturdy MTB because the rims crumble with the slightest load.

I suppose if you can ride soft and straight you can make these rims last longer than a few weeks. However if you have even the slightest bit of aggession in you, you'll be sorry.

Honestly, I've ridden Huffy's that can take more than these could. Overall I guess if your idea of a fun time involves carrying your bike home on the side of the street while people drive by throwing crap at you all-the-while mocking your manhood, then these are definitely what you need. Otherwise look elsewhere.

After all, the more torture your bike can handle, the quicker you'll improve your skills.

Bottom Line:I think that the labor put into building them must be much more important than the material quality. Furher, I think different people tolerate different qualities differently.

Everybody says these rims are awful. I haven't experienced that. I weigh 190 right now, but did weigh 210 when I started. I ride hard, ungracefully, on terrain full of rocks from 1" to 6", roots of all sizes, and logs that have broken chainrings and seatposts. I've had my share of accidents, endoed enough. I'm scared of large dropoffs, but have done dropoffs as large as maybe 16"...and never had my rims taco.

One was bent to crap when it got smooshed between my car and a car that rear-ended me with the bike on a trunk-mounted bike rack. It got replaced with another one that has lasted well.

My wheels have always been slightly out of true, but I have my brakes adjusted tighter than everybody else I meet, I stop well, and my wheels rub _slightly_ once per revolution. This doesn't slow them down, but it does get noisy after I ride through mud.

I'm giving them 5 flaming piles of entrails for treating me so well when everybody rates them so badly (my LBS told me they'd be fine, and my LBS was right!).
