    Date Reviewed: January 5, 2006
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $20.00
    Purchased At:CRC & Cyclesurgery
    Strengths:Fast....very fast
    Good looks and colours
Sticky compound, holds the road really well
    Light
    Weaknesses:£20.00 per tyre.
Suffered flats from the London commute, 5-6 in last 12 months to 1 flat with Nimbus EX.
    Durability.
    Similar Products Used:Spesh Nimbus EX
    Spesh Nimbus Armadillo
Bike Setup:Giant XTC, XT throughout, mavic X223
Bottom Line:These are great tyres. Very fast, and sticks to the road very well in dry and wet. (And snow if you dont hammer into the turns) Got a few punctures, had to get into the habit of picking the glass out of the tyres once a week, or they work their way in.
I have discs on my bike, so stopping power way above requirments for a commuter. I have skidded the rear out quite a lot, but that is due to the way I ride. Follow close and brake late.Swapped the rear with front when it wore down and the side wall started to look dodgy. Lost the front tyre last week, blew out on me while riding along Oxford St. Really only got 12 months daily commute on these, around 5000 miles. Bought a new set, stick with what you know and like.

    Date Reviewed: December 11, 2005
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $70.00
Strengths:Grip, comfort, puncture resistant, speed, fairly light, foldable.
    Weaknesses:Price, durability.
Bike Setup:Trek 3500 using Bontrager Select wheels.
Bottom Line:Highly recommend these tyres to anyone using their mtb to commute. They are just comfortable enough to ride through minor bumps and irregularities and the grip is excellent, it feels as if your bike is glued to the road. Even in the rain the grip stays strong, unlike Conti CityContact where they skid like there's no tomorrow. The durability could be better and they could be a little lighter, but overall they're worth the money and are the best slicks to own on your mtb if your priorities are grip, speed and comfort.

    Date Reviewed: September 29, 2005
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $40.00
    Purchased At:www.sjscycles.com/
Strengths:cornering, durability, puncture resistance, good off-road for a slick, fast on the road.
Weaknesses:emergency stops - skids very easily on the front. I have yet to come off but have have had the front wheel skid several times in on-road emergency stops which would not usually happen. I have ridden racing bikes for many years with mostly 23mm tyres but also down to 18mm and never had this happen. On this bike there has been no similar issue with the panarcer or nokian winter tyres that I have used.
Bike Setup:Thorn adventure tour. (Rohloff speedhub equipped commuter/tourer)
Bottom Line:A very good tyre that sadly I do not trust in emergency situations. The plusses are outweighed by the massive minus that when you really need it to grip it does not. This is dangerous. It would rate around 4-5 if not for this.

    Date Reviewed: May 27, 2005
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Fast. Good grip in all conditions. Come in fun colours.
Weaknesses:Not quite as fast as Conti GP's maybe?
Can't take really high pressures. (100psi+)
Similar Products Used:Conti Gps, many off road tyres
Bottom Line:Opted for the slightly wider S-Licks after having nightmares with my Conti GP's which got on average 2 punctures a week. These have restored my confidence with not a single puncture in road riding in nearly a year. They are not quite so fast as the Conti's but if you crank the pressure up to 90-100psi they run nicely. A good piece of kit. A bit expensive at £20 per tyre maybe but I have saved that in tubes so no complaints. 5 turds for performance 4 for value.

    Date Reviewed: October 10, 2004
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $30.00
    Purchased At:wiggle
    Strengths:Grippy
    Fast
    Comfortable
    Fairly light
    Fairly puncture resitant
    Weaknesses:None really
    Similar Products Used:Specialized Nimbus EX
    Panaracer Pasela
    Continental
Bike Setup:Home-built urban MTB on Kona Muni-Mula frame
Bottom Line:If you are a regular commuter / urban cyclist in temperate climes, GET THESE TYRES! There are other tyres with slightly better punture resistance but they are heavy and/or slow/uncomfortable. There are slightly lighter tyres, but they are less puncture resistant and/or don't grip as well. If you are cycling in traffic in the wet the most important thing is traction, and these are great. I used to feel really unsafe cycling on wet roads until I got these (Panaracer Paselas, for example, can be really dodgy). Somehow they feel soft even when they are hard, and they're very fast. Puncture resistance is only a bit less than, say, Nimbus EX and they're lighter than most (Nimbuses are A LOT heavier and slower). S-Licks aren't cheap but you get what you pay for.

    Favorite Trail:Any without wind!!!
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $50.00
    Purchased At:Settle Cycles (Yorkshire)
Strengths:Lightweight, very fast - virtually no rolling resistance.
Choice of colours to match your bike!!
Weaknesses:Slightly on the expensive side (£39.98)
    Similar Products Used:Specialized Hemisphere (Armadillo)
    Bike Setup:Cannondale F3000SL
Bottom Line:I opted for these in replacement to the Specialised Hemisheres based on their weight and a couple of recomendations in UK magazines. I am not dissapointed so far. I cycle a 35 mile loop on roads and the tyres have knocked over 5 minutes of my time. Having switched from the virtually puncture resistant (but heavy) Hemispheres I was expecting a punture within the first week! Well, over the past 3 months I have clocked up 1000+ miles and still no puntures!
Grip is excellent for a slick, even in wet conditions.
    I highly recommend these tyres.

Strengths:traction in wet and dry, wear, ride, puncture resistence
    Weaknesses:Not carried at every LBS
    Similar Products Used:Primo comets
    Bike Setup:RANS V2
Bottom Line:The cords on my rear tire are starting to show, after
    a pretty stunning 3500 miles. I weigh 220. I've also
had only one pucture with this tire in that time. It is
a great riding tire, with excellent traction in corners
and in wet weather. Customer questions are excellently
h.ndled by the U.S. distibutor. A superior tire.

    Date Reviewed: March 29, 2001
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $25.00
    Purchased At:Settle Cycles
Strengths:Looks the business, fast and very grippy.
    Weaknesses:They punctured
    Similar Products Used:Specialized Nimbus Armadillo
Bike Setup:Bog standard MTB for work
Bottom Line:A fabulous tyre, looks great and rides beautifully...but, and there's always a but isn't there...the damn things punctured on me on only the second ride out!

I use an MTB with slicks for getting to work (4 miles across some park paths and roads). Unfortunately, as is probably common in lots of other places, the little b*stard schoolkids smash glass in the parks for their idea of entertainment.

I've used the Specialized Nimbus Armadillo's for the past year and never had a problem with punctures until a 3-inch nail went through them and I noticed that the beading was becoming very worn. Overall though, if you ride in areas where your liable to puncture the Armadillos are excellent.

The bottom line is that the Vredestein S-Licks are a great tyre and it rides fast and smooth on the road...but if you're using them to commute, or go through and areas where there's non tyre friendly debris, then you'll end up with a flat.

    Bike Setup:'99 Cannondale Super-V
Bottom Line:Great tire for someone rides a mountain bike on the road and doesn't care too much about the weight. There is lots of grip and a smooth ride. My dad wrote about the tire earlier and said it was too heavy for his use. He has a very light mountain bike for road use only. Since he didn't want them, he gave them to me. Now I don't have to worry about whearing down my knobs when I am out riding on the street.

    •Conti Double Fighter.
    Bike Setup:•'97 Trek 7000ZX
    • '98 C'dale Super V 900
Bottom Line:Great pavement tire for a MT bike! Not meant for off-road hardpack - for that, the best I've used are the Geax's (Hubi's and Revert's).

On asphalt/concrete, the S-Licks roll very easily and stick well in the corners. Combined with their lightweight, narrow 1.3" profile and decent puncture-resistance, they're unbeatable. Great ride characteristics, especially when used with latex tubes, and although not cheap at $40. (retail) each, they're worth the few extra $. The "bronze"-colored sidewalls are great looking with the colored treads. Kwite kewl!!

Excellent tires for their intended niche, and whips all of the other semi-slick MTB tires out there for road use. Although they don't stock them on a regular basis, Lickton's can order you a set of the S-Lick's and have them to you in a few days. www.lickbike.com (BTW, I don't work for them, I'm just a customer!)

    Date Reviewed: June 15, 2000
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Strengths:Low rolling resistance
    Grip on wet tarmac
    Steering precision
    Weaknesses:Weak bead? (see Bottom Line)
Similar Products Used:Avocet City Slicker, Specialized Nimbus III, Ritchey Tom Slick, Panaracer Hi-Road
    Bike Setup:1994 C'dale MT3000 tandem
    King/DT/WTB wheels
    Magura HS33
Bottom Line:After 500 miles on a loaded tandem the rear S-Lick blew at the bead. The kevlar is exposed so the casing must have come apart somehow. Luckily this happened overnight so there was no further damage. Apart from that, the middle section of the tread was already flattened after 500 miles so this tire is not suitable for loaded (tandem) touring.
Otherwise a brilliant road tire. Definitely the fastest we ever rode on the tandem and still comfortable at 90+ psi. And you can pick your color to complement your bike ;-)

    Date Reviewed: March 13, 2000
    Favorite Trail:any with no traffic
    Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Lightweight: though heavier than Conti GP, it is a softer ride & better grip. Can get matched sets for Recumbents (26 x 1.3 rear, 20" front), very sticky, even on wet pavement, foldable kevlar bead, easy to mount, protective anti-flat belt.
Weaknesses:Very thin sidewalls - soft ride, but not an offroad tire. May be hard to find - limited dealers in USA
(try www.vredesteinusa.com to find a dealer)
Similar Products Used:Conti GP, Conti TT2000 (bulletproof but very heavy), Primo Comets (ugh)
Bike Setup:Recumbents - I've used the 406 on multiple bikes, have matched set (26" and 20") of S-Licks on a Barcroft Dakota.
Bottom Line:Probably the best all-round tire for spirited road or paved trail riding, these sticky tires provide good traction and a very nice ride with their skin-thin flexible sidewalls. Very low rolling resistance - you can run 'em at 90+ psi.
One of few "matched set" options for those who ride recumbents, these tires can withstand the demands of a bent bike. Very popular in the Netherlands, reported to give excellent mileage. Not the cheapest tires out there, marked down one notch on "Value" for price.

If you're a hard core weight weenie, stick with Conti GP's. Want a better ride and more traction, give up 50 grams and get S-Licks.
