$30.00 | | Purchased At: | Local bike shop | | Strengths: | Durable, long battery life | | Weaknesses: | Programming functions are confusing. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | Trek 750 (from about 1992). Nothing special. | | Bottom Line: | This little comp has been very durable, taken all kinds of weather, and the battery life has been exceptional. Some others on this list complain about it suddenly "not working" without reason. Here's the reason: check the sensor magnet. If it gets knocked off center even a little, the comp simply stops working. I do almost no off-road, and this computer might not hold up to that; it has only a friction mount, and while I've never had it slip off I think it easily could in even small crack-ups. My main complaint is the programming: you have to be in a particular mode to clear the trip odometer and certain other readings, but there's no visible indicator on the readouts about that. A few of the read-outs are kind of silly. Mostly what I'd like is a clock, speed, and trip distance (plus cumulative odometer). The C-15, which is the model I have, does not have a cadence reading, which I think I'd like (never had one before, but can see the value). Average speed and maximum speed are both here, but of minimal value to me.
Thing is, the C-15 is a very old unit. I STILL see them listed occasionally (at eBay, for example), and even saw a new one on clearance at a bike shop this summer (and then it was just $12!). If you happen to see one cheap, grab it.

I have owned four different vetta c-15 computers and now have a brand new C-16 ( bought two, three were sent as warranty replacements). Every one I have ever owned ( including the C-16 they sent me two weeks ago) has had readings that make no sense. My bike has gone more miles parked at home in the dining room than with me on it ( or it will clock unbelievably high speeds ). Apparently something has kept them going at 2.5 mph for hours and hours ( sometimes days )while parked ( the last one went on and on for a couple of weeks while in a bag awaiting shipment back to Vetta for replacement). Logging miles and time on the stopwatch and slowly bringing my average speed down . Gee, what good are ANY of those features if you have to reset them every time you get on the bike? Forget keeping track of miles or averages for a week or so if you use your bike to commute as I do. I will say it again and again, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ! Thank goodness I bought all the ones I paid for as close-outs. These things suck. A year ago last spring I got both a Vetta C-20 and a Cateye Astrale. I put the Cateye on my Schwinn and took it to RAGBRAI. The wiring harness didn't last the week, but the electronics are way better than the Vetta. I din't put the Vetta on till I got a new bike this past winter. I've logged 2600 miles and the wires are still in pretty good shape. I ride in the rain, sometimes rushing water up over my bottom bracket, and both pickups. I bake in the sun, it was 103, officaly, last nite when I went home. These wire harnesses were easier to install than the Cateye too.But the electronics are not as good as the Cateye. THe Cateye allows me to select wheather it's auto-stop or not, the Vetta Doesn't. The Vetta has a slow sample rate and changes in my speed and cadence are not reflected in the display as quickly as the Cateye. The Cateye shows my current speed to the nearest hundreth of a mph, the Vetta only to the nearest half mph. For me the Cateye is way better, except for those flimsy wires. For my kids, it's the Vetta, you bet! | Overall Rating: |

What can I say, its survived 6 months of riding in all the weather we've had in the NE (from 20F to 95F-that thermometer function is fun!)and has worked faultlessly. The big numbers make it easy to read with a glance on the trail, it has all the functions youd want/need. AND it twists off rather than pushes off, so no more lost computers when your knee hits it and catapults it off into the undergrowth!Retails for around $35-40, but perf/nashbar have em for $30. I had the C-15 for well over 700 miles of riding and never had a minute's problem, the only reason I don't have it now is becuase I sold the bike with it. Now I'm using a C-16 and it's working like a horse. They only problem with it is that the sensor is a little hard to get to stay in place on the fork leg (nothing a little piece o' duct tape won't fix :) ) | Overall Rating: |

The features are good. The size is right. nice choice of colors. The computer sux!!! I have had three. I bought one, the other two were given to me. All three stopped working! The first one decided its useful life was used up after about a week. The second one went into partial retirement when only the et and trip odometer woulod work. The third one got tossed in the drink during a ride because it bonked after about a month. Do youself a favor; If it says VETTA say, see you later! Dont waste your money! | Overall Rating: |

This computer sucks! I had one a month and it died, I sent it back to nashbar and they sent me a new one. Four months later, the battery in the new one goes out. Aren't these things suppose to last for several years? Everyone I ride with either has a Advocet or a Specialized Speed Zone. Their's is two or three years old. The wiring is cheap and the mounting is not duarable. I reccommend to get an Advocet or Specialized stay away from Vetta computers they do not last. | Overall Rating: |
