Submitted by Markus a Racer from Germany
    Date Reviewed: August 18, 2004
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $220.00
    Purchased At:LBS
    Strengths:Light
Weaknesses:Crank arms have play right from the start
    Similar Products Used:Shimano BB-UN72, Shimano BB-M950, Shimano BB-M952
Bike Setup:Hardtail, cranks: Tune Big Foot
Bottom Line:I am reviewing the Tune "Sixpack" BB (hex taper). It is similar to the AC38 (square taper). These BBs have one fixed bearing (inner ring is fixed on the axle) and one "loose" bearing (inner ring is gliding on the axle when BB shell is tightened). Unfortunately the inner ring of the "loose" bearing did not exactly fit the axle of my "Sixpack" BB, thus there was play between the bearing and the axle - leading to remarkable crank arm play. Same story with another "Sixpack" BB, so I conclude it is a general weakness.

    Date Reviewed: April 29, 2004
    Favorite Trail:Portes du Soleil/Les Gets
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $122.00
    Purchased At:Tune over the internet
Strengths:Light, Durable, stiff and low maintanance
    Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Shimano BB-UN72 and Tune AC37(steel axle)
Bike Setup:Cube Airwing Blackline, DT SSD210L, Fox Float 100RLC, XTR, XT 4-pot disc, Thomson, King ISO Disc/CX-ray/DT XR4.1d and lost more good stuff!
Bottom Line:This is an update of my previous post!
The Tune AC 38 BB is still going strong after one and a half years service in the Dutch mud, rain and other crap.
Took it out once to inspect but it still looked and feeled like new.
The bearings are smooth like new and very well shielded from water and debris.
I'm sure that I'm going to enjoy thes BB for many miles and years to come!

    Date Reviewed: December 27, 2002
    Favorite Trail:Schoorl, Noord-Holland
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $122.00
Purchased At:Tune direct order by e-mail
Strengths:Light, good reputation and superb finish
Weaknesses:Some say price but you get what you pay for.
    Similar Products Used:Shimano XT(BB-UN72), Shimano LX(BB-UN52)
Bike Setup:Cube Airwing Blackline, XTR drivetrain, HS33 brakes, King/X618ceramic/X-Ray wheels and Thomson stem+post
Bottom Line:Got my AC 38 bracket direct from Tune and tried to mount it with the standart 2-pin wrench, this didn't work verry well.
Had my dealer check the tread of my frame and ordered the special W2 bottom bracket tool from Tune.
Received it today and mounting was a breeze with this tool.
The tool as 6 in stead of 2 pins and is well made, almost a shame to use.
(I think i'm going to order another one just to look at:))
Mounted the bracket with copper paste and it looks and feels perfect!
I hope this bracket will last longer than the standard Shimano crap I used before, but looking at the reputation of this bracket that shouldn't be a problem for a long time!

Submitted by Marcel Frenk a Cross Country Rider from Nijmegen, The Netherlands
    Date Reviewed: February 9, 2001
Favorite Trail:Rijk van Nijmegen & Cristalp
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Purchased At:Fietssport Vincent Ede
Strengths:One of the lightest TI bottom brackets, still built to last.
Weaknesses:Bloody expensive, but none other. Maybe tune should make a splined set-up in the future.
Similar Products Used:Shimano XT, never had one that survived longer than 9 months (maybe because of the climate).
Bike Setup:Specialized FSR-XC M4, lots of tune stuff, Rond-Magura Quake Air 70, SRAM 9.0 SL
Bottom Line:If you want light, stiff enough, serviceable and long lasting, this is the BB. Read the manual (in German) and install it accordingly.

    Favorite Trail:Street, trials.
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $125.00
    Purchased At:Hibike.de
    Strengths:Light
STRONG ! It has long Ti screws. I broke several Ti Spindles between the bearing and the crank, those screws go deeper in the BB spindle, making it stronger.
    Color
Weaknesses:They can't be tighten with a shimano BB tool
No conterbolts, so it slowly gets loose & creaks.
    Not cheap !
Similar Products Used:Syncros Ti, Streak'x Ti (French manufacturer), Shimano steel
Bike Setup:Merlin Taïga 15" for trials, street, freestyle. XTR, Mavic, Race Face, Moots, ...
Bottom Line:truly one of the best Ti BB. Stiffness/weight ratio excellent. Would be even better if compatible with shimano BB tool.
It creaks a bit, but I must admit trials is hard for the equipment.
Maybe I should consider to get a bombproof Shimano XT :-)

    4 Chillis 'cos it's 95% perfect.
