Strengths:
Pegs will make you scream for mercy, but you'll never lose grip, even in wet conditions. Bomb proof pedal, beat the sh*t out of it and it won't break.
Weaknesses:
Cartridge bearing isn't a smooth spinner but perhaps that is for the best. They will eat your legs for breakfast if you slip and your shoe soles if you don't slip. Maybe a bit pricey...

I have a 2008 model and the pegs are more than apt to give you a great day of grip and a bad day skin loss if you actually lose a pedal. That has happened to me twice in six months of daily (I repeat, daily) 20 mile hikes with them. Older models may have blew but the new ones are bad boy toys.

Alot of people talk sh#t about these pedals, and I understand some of the complaints. After the bearings turned to dust, I simply sent them back to truvativ and they sent me back a brand new pair. Honoring the warrenty. Gotta love it. I paid 80 bucks and will never have to buy another pedal again. For this you all five flaming chillies or turds depending how you look at it.

Although these pedals look damn good, they are not that flash when wet & muddy, quite slippery. I tried different shoes & made no difference. They are advertised as having replacable pins but you can't get longer ones. The pins are smaller than the little grub screws most others use.

the main body is strong, and i like the fact that they use an allen wrench. They don't flex at all, nice and stiff.
Weaknesses:
The bearings started squeking after one good ride, (9ft airs, and drops to). I work at a shop and I'm gonna see what i can do with these to fix them. I'll keep you guys posted(you can buy aftermarket bearings, you just need a puller)

not very grippy, wear shin guards on rocky downhill because you dont want those pins impaling your leg. Bearings went staright away and seized up...causing on one ride for my pedal to then unscrew itself from the crank arm...nice one truvativ!...£60 isnt what they are worth!

After 5 monthes of riding a couple times a week , they started to sound all dried up and wobble a bit. A little grease will help that....but you can't access the bearing assembly to grease. Bit of a problem. Now it sounds like I have gravel in my pedals, and have lots of play in them. Plus, they are like 100 bone or more to replace. Gonna try something else.

The pedals were, until yesterday, on my first real mountain bike. I ride a mix of bumpy and smooth loops that take me from 1 to 4 hours. After each ride I gently wash the sand/mud/whatever off the bike. Looks like something (soapy water?) has got into one of the pedals and now it is binding. I suspect the hole at the bottom of the hex mounting screw. Putting oil there seemed to help temporarily.
Now I have Time Atac XS pedals and a pair of XC shoes whitch I plan to test ride later today.

These are awesome flat pedals. I've been using the same ones for over a year and have had no bearing problems; I ride about 2-3 times a week. Your feet stay in place, they are burly and can take a beating or 20, and they look nice. The only problem I've noticed is that when your shoe/pedal gets a little wet, your feet can slip a bit. This is because the pedal is not recessed and the Truvativ logo is raised. I've had my feet slip once or twice on a drop and it really hurt. Maybe if they took ovv that raised logo and put some set screws in instead of pins this would resolve the problem. Still, overall the best flats I've used.

Well, they are good pedals. The price is reasonable and the sealed bearings are great. They are still running smooth after 1000 km (around 1700 miles, I think) ride. The main body can take lots of beating without being damaged. Moreover, the pins are much better than those of Shimano DX, they grip as well as Shimano DX does, but they never bend or need replacement!
Both Shimano DX and Truvativ Holzfeller are nice pedals, but the pins of Truvativ Holzfeller are much better. Oh! did I mention that?
It's a good choice for less expensive pedals.

In the three months that I have owned these they have spent less than two weeks on my bike accounting for about ten hours of riding. After six hours the bearings in the first set gave out and were duly sent in on a warranty claim. Seven weeks later a new pair arrived and were attached to the bike. After one four hour ride the bearings in both pedals were shot, the left one very notchy and sounding dry. The ride was a wet one in the rain but new pedals with an extra lip seal should last longer one would think. They are a great pedal to ride on and I will persist with them until the warranty runs out, however many pairs that may be. Hopefully they will redesign them in the near future so I will be able to use them for more than one ride. Those that are loyal to Truvativ will love these as long as they buy two pairs so they can still ride when the others are being repaired/replaced.
