They look kinda cool I guess | | Weaknesses: | Either they steel sleeve rips out of the crank arm, or the crank arm snaps | | Bike Setup: | big hit fsr, jr t fork..... | | Bottom Line: | These where the worst cranks i have ever owned. After riding for the first time on them the pedal ripped the sleeve right out of the crank. After researching I found that this was a very common problem with these older 05 version. This sleeve would rip out or the cranks snap. Mine were ISIS style. They look burly but thats about it. I have heard the newer ones that fit with the external BB are much better. I just wish I could get this stupid sleeve off my nice pedal | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

no problems yet, if you see posts with guys complaining about squeeking or whatever its #1 because the shop they must have taken it to is weaksause #2 they didnt take care of their part , #3 they actually took it over the limit which means they are really good.
its a bit heavy but for the price you have to sacrifice something

$80.00 | | Purchased At: | jensonusa | | Strengths: | Stif crank, strong arms hadle abuse of urban rides well. grinds and stalls dont phase the crank arms. | | Weaknesses: | TONS!!!! I am now on my second set of arms, i had a set of 03s now 05s...lets start w/ the bottom bracket. The trivative gigapipe DH weighs a metric f**k ton. after several months on it i had play in the spindle and had crushed the sealed bearings. I replaced that one with a raceface evolve XC which is still running smooth as the day i bought it and i s a full 1/4 pound lighter. Now, the crank arms. If you like pedals dont put em in these cranks because you wont get em back. as of today BOTH my cranksets stole my pdals. The silver thread inserts for the pedals come out if you try to remove your pedals. If this does happen to you, take the thread inserts out, cover them ith loc-tite, put em back wait 24hr then try to take yur pedal out again. this has worked for me 25% of the time. I will be puting in a call to truvative tomorrow. I can't recomend this product to anyone especially if you are using a limited eddition celincki pedal that can not be replaced (or anything else valuable) sorry truvativ...you guys need to get your head straight. | | Similar Products Used: | Evolve DH, Evolve XC, Bontrager race, race light, select, Rie xc. | | Bike Setup: | Giant STP, Pike 426, mamoth rims, singlespeed cassette hub, team risebar 2.5" rise, Easton Vice stem. | | Bottom Line: | DONT BUY THESE CRANKS. there a decent performing crankset. By no means amazing. Theyre heavier than most and not really stronger. The BB doesnt last and has no redeeming qualities. Considering the cranks perform averagely I could sugest them if theyre on sale...but they take pedals. Unless you using $15 pedals and absolutely can not afford another crankset DO NOT BUY THESE. Theyre nothing special and underperform. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

These cranks did the same thing as some other reviewers have complained about. I was toolin around town the other day just taking some curbs and drops. They were manufatured poorly, and it shows. As soon as I have the money, these are toast and i'm going 3 piece chro-mo. Kudos to Profile for making a good crank. It stands for Tru-ly inno-Vativ-e. "Husselfelt" more than makes up for it though; it's a pretty cool name that should be adopted by either a Disney character or a porn star. | | Similar Products Used: | A/C, RaceFace, Shimano, Kooka | | Bike Setup: | 03 KHS FR2000, Z1, Romic | | Bottom Line: | I think these things are great. Maybe it's just that the splined design is such a big improvement in general from the tapered style, but these cranks are durable and have needed no tightening or adjustment. Tha chainrings might be a bit iffy - I hit a rock ledge pretty hard and expected a damaged tooth or two, and instead got an aluminum hard shell taco. But this really is a testament to the strength of the cranks and bolts, which didn't bend or crack at all. I just upgraded to some RaceFace RaceRings, which seem to be the only other chainrings you can buy at Jenson and Pricepoint these days. I have opted to keep the TruVativs on instead of switching to my spare RaceFace Turbine LPs, although those are good cranks too, and can be bought brand new for cheap. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Some people install parts themselves without a clue as to what they are doing. As far a flex goes, I haven't noticed any, but most of the people who complained of flex seemed to be riding hardtails. from Edinburgh, UK Date Reviewed: October 18, 2004 | | Favorite Trail: | Fort William | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Purchased At: | Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op | | Strengths: | Looks nice, decent enough for moderate D/H riding | | Weaknesses: | Don't even bother trying to use these doing street or any sort of urban riding. Best to avoid dirt jumping too | | Similar Products Used: | 24seven, raceface etc. | | Bike Setup: | Specialized P2, Hayes HFX-Mag brakes, Maxxis high roller D/H super tackys, Z1 Freerides | | Bottom Line: | These cranks broke on me after about a month, luckily the shop replaced them. Cranks just broke again and now shop refuses to replace them as "problem is outwith warranty. Style of riding is not suitable for these cranks. Suggest 24seven 3 piece crank for street riding". Really sums it up, these cranks are completely crap for any sort of urban assault, don't bother with them. D/H... they suffice. Go for 3 piece for strength | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Also came on my kona, but thats ful sus so im not to worried about strippping.
very stong and stiff, take lots of abuse. used em for dirt street and trials.
The Race Face prodigies on my new trials bike are stiffer and lighter (and race face!) but they are more expensive, so i would still recomend these cranks to people on a budget. new versions with SS insert are definately fit and forget parts!

from New Zealand Date Reviewed: January 29, 2004 | | Favorite Trail: | Spaghetti at night | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Purchased At: | OEM | | Strengths: | I.S.I.S., Free with EVERY bike purchase. low key finish. | | Weaknesses: | Soft alloy. People with Race Face cranks mock me. Finish wears off easy. pedal inserts come off with the pedal now and then. | | Bike Setup: | Heavy metal. | | Bottom Line: | Can you buy a bike these days without Hussfelt cranks?
In the olden days (the Anodising era, to be precise), people rode aroud on square taper cranks and said things like "dude, i just did a 4 foot drop and rounded off my XTs..." and the only people snapping anything were those that paid $300 for a Titanium bottom bracket.
Then, along came splined cranks which enabled people to bust large. As a result, Mountain Bikers started snapping bottom brackets AND tearing their pedals off the end of their cranks. But at least our bikes are no longer purple...
Properly installed, an ISIS splined stick of butter should withstand moderate abuse (on a cold day). Hussfelts have overcome their earlier problems with pedal threading with a stainless insert, and due to their tough enough, light enough, stiff enough, cheap enough nature are on more (new) bikes than any other crankset. If you break your OEM Five-Ds or older square taper system, then these are an excellent upgrade and are available with every possible chainring combination. (I run a double with bash guard)
If I had to replace mine, I would probably shell out for Holtzfellers. Like the Hussfelts, they have a subdued finish and are as tough as Race Face cranks (I already have enough RACE FACE logos on my RACE FACE stem and RACE FACE seatpost, got it?).
Ultimately, i have no problems with these cranks. If you have them, don't pine for anything tricker. If you can break them, treat yourself to an upgrade. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I owned a pair of these for 6 months with no problems, then my bike got stolen, so when I rebuilt my bike I picked up another pair. These went for a year without issues, but recently the pedal threads stripped out on a 2 foot drop. I called Truvativ, and they obviously weren't very surprised- which explains the cromo inserts for '03. They're upgrading me to the Holzfellers now for an incredible price. Dave in the warranty department even tried 3 times to return my call before he got ahold of me- very impressed. 5 chilis, because Truvativ's customer service makes up for any flaws in the product. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Heavy. | | Similar Products Used: | RaceFace NS; LX | | Bike Setup: | 02' Stinky | | Bottom Line: | The 02' model crank pedal inserts are pretty weak but I think the cranks are plenty stiff for how I ride. I'm about 190 pounds and ride pretty hard but pedal threads shouldn't strip out like that. I called Truvativ and spoke with Dave in the warranty dept and he hooked me up, in less than a week - no questions asked, with a pair of the 2003 Husses w/ the new insert. Don't over-torque your pedals and bolts and you probably won't have issues. I've had the cranks off to tighten the BB and have had no problem keeping them tight after I reinstalled them. Striped the female pedal joint and got a heli-coil drilled in. The high tensile steel of the heli-coil dominates the crappy Aluminium job they got on there. I advise staying away from that lock-tight stuff, its only a short term sollution, i tried. With the drilled in heli-coil, its like more top of the range cranks but cheaper. Am i babbaling on? I dont care. I hate Truvativ, they take too many shortcuts all the time. you asked | | Bottom Line: | these cranks are flashy looking trash. i heartily agree with everyone that says they're bad. if you put these cranks to the test, try to make them live up to their name, they WILL fail. if you are a xc rider, get something lighter. if you're a trails rider, get something stiffer. if you're a dh rider get something stronger. these cranks are weak, flexy and heavy. i ride urban/ tech trails and therefore very hard on my bike. if you're the same, STAY AWAY from these cranks! get a 3-peice chromoly crankset like planet-x goliath or fsa x-drive or some profile something or another. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The last thing I did on these things was to take it of a 7 or 8 foot jump and they came through smiling. Keep in mind I ride a hardtail and weigh 200lbs. I would guess that the people having problems with their cranks are doing something wrong installing. I did have a bit of problems with a clicking sound, but found out it was my new pedals needed tightened more. So far great cranks. I have a hard time controlling myself when someone says square taper in my presence as I had gone through two sets in the year before I got these. XC rider doesn't fully describe me I like to do trials stuff also, but mostly I do XC. I just can't afford more than one bike. If you want a crankset that will hold up under enormous stress this is it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Tempe, AZ Date Reviewed: June 24, 2002 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Seem tough Not very expensive Comes in a lot of different ring/bashring configurations ISIS drive is pretty slick | | Weaknesses: | Only come in black Heavy-ish, but you pay the price for toughness | | Similar Products Used: | Raceface turbines, Shimano LX, Profiles, Azonic 454, old TNT titanium tubulars | | Bike Setup: | Urban trials/street | | Bottom Line: | Granted I haven't used these long, but they've been great so far. They came loose once. Cranks do that, it's not any reason to panic or abandon the product. I'm a shop mechanic and I sometimes see bikes that have gone strong for years, then one day the crank loosens. No big deal. Re-tighten it. If they come loose again, re-tighten to a slightly higher torque as per Truvativ's instructions.
Cranks don't just strip out of nowhere. It happens when you aren't watching your parts, and your crank loosens, and you don't notice, then the crank arm loses its firm seating against the spindle, and of course it strips. As you're riding, stand up and backpedal every now and then, and if you feel a click everytime your feet come around, STOP and tighten them bad boys up. Get a torque wrench, do your bike a favor. If your cranks aren't re-torqued now and then, especially soon after installation, then don't be surprised if you have problems. When you ride big and ride hard, your cranks take a -Huge- amount of punishment.
A side note- if your cranks come loose once and you don't notice and ride on them anyway, even if they don't strip they will probably deform. After that they won't fit the spindle right, and will probably not stay tight as well.
I've only had to tighten mine once so far, and that was a week after installation. I weigh 185 and I am not smooth. I bang them around on concrete ledges and do 6+ foot drops onto flat concrete on a fully rigid trials bike. Haven't bent yet, but we'll see.
My favorite crank so far. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$120.00 | | Purchased At: | Junkies | | Strengths: | Stiff, tough set of cranks. Work well. Not a bad crank if you know what the hell you're doing. | | Weaknesses: | No one uses loc-tite, so thier cranks come loose. People ride them loose, and strip them, thinking it's the fault of the cranks. It's not.
BUY SOME LOC-TITE, it's cheap, and it works. | | Similar Products Used: | Firex - Worst cranks EVER. Poor quality, even worse than Shimano's Alivio line-up. | | Bike Setup: | .243 Racing 4130 Cro-moly frame, Z3 QR20, Hussefelts, etc., etc. | | Bottom Line: | Use loc-tite. If you don't, you end up with loose cranks. Loose cranks equals stripping. LEARN HOW TO WORK ON YOUR BIKE, OR TAKE IT TO A SHOP. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
All you people who have had problems probably have no clue what a torque wrench is. Properly torque and loc-tite these cranks and your bottom bracket and you're set.
I've seen a total of ONE set of these cranks that was broken due to a product fault. The rest have been user-installed faults.
In the end, a good product. Could be a little stiffer, but you can't expect ultimate stiffness out of aluminum cranks. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I've never expericence any of the creaking or stripping problems that some guys have noted and I am a big guy (230 lbs). I figure that I would have seen some of this if the product was really that bad, I ride a lot of urban and I've sketched out on my fair share of drops (letting the bike take the abuse) but the cranks have come out of it every time with no damage.

I ride pretty hard, 2-3 foot drops and lots of technical up and down hills. The rock ring has taken a beating, but no issues. The only thing that bugs me is the bolt that holds the crank to the BB has come loose a few times. But a good solid tightening holds it for a few rides. Overall, though these are good cranks for the cash. Tough, durable, stiff and they look pretty sweet on a afterburn C'dale. Buy these. You won't regret it.

I am a big rider (200 lbs+) and am very abusive to my equipemnt and they still perform as good now as they did new. Plus, the customer support from TruVativ is top notch to say the very least (Thanks Brian!!). If I don't break these cranks, no one will. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
