Submitted by j j a Weekend Warrior from tampa
    Date Reviewed: August 3, 2005
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $1000.00
    Purchased At:Bike tech
Strengths:Disc brakes, good stock shocks. That's it.
Weaknesses:Frame. Broke after 6 months of weekend use and trek refused to honor warranty, I was told the frame is no longer made because it sucked so bad they discountinued production all together.
Not in those words but the point was made, no replacement.
Similar Products Used:Specialized endro, awesome bike.
Bottom Line:This bike's compoments were good but the frame is as good as garbage. Very unstable at best, rigidty=0. Would not buy a Trek
ever again, not so much because of the bike(manufacturing and design defects happen) but Trek refused to correct the issue or at the very least uphold their "lifetime" warranty. Not worth the money nor headache. Get a Specialized with superior design and construction and a real lifetime warranty.

Weaknesses:the front fork is o.k but it would be better if it had more travel

    Date Reviewed: March 10, 2002
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $1700.00
    Purchased At:local shop
Strengths:Great all around bike, not bad weight, and decent feel.
Weaknesses:I broke the swingarm, but I dirt-jump, and thats not really what this is designed for...
Similar Products Used:many different bmx and mountain bikes of all kinds of brands...
Bike Setup:stock, but with heavier fork oil, heavier spring, in ac setting, protaper bars, thats it...
Bottom Line:Nice bike, but I broke the swingarm and and trek's takinga a while to get it back to me. Dealer is great help though, so its definately the company. This is a great bike for anyone who rides a little of everything. I do xc, ds, dh, urban, and jump with this bike, and love it. I haven't found anyone who didn't like it, so thats a plus. I like it, and would buy it again.

    Date Reviewed: February 7, 2002
    Favorite Trail:River Mnt. Ridge Area
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $1200.00
    Purchased At:Local Shop...not around anymore
Strengths:Strong bike, I can't seem to crack this frame. Great setup...even though I have the VRX 300...no front disk.
Weaknesses:A little heavier than any of my buddies bikes...but by only by two or three pounds....doesn't seem to slow me down.
    Similar Products Used:Giant & Kona
Bottom Line:This might not be what some call a " down hill " bike...but I would rather ride up the hill, rather than take the ski-lift to the top.
I'm a big guy, 6'1" and 200#'s. This bike is perfect for us guys who weigh more than 150 pounds...it's tough and undestructable. PLUS, it has the high end components to make it ride great.
This is a BEST BUY in my books.

    Favorite Trail:Wintergreen Downhill
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $1800.00
    Purchased At:Bikes Unlimited
Strengths:Unbreakeable with gobs of trvels. Never bottoms out. Little suspnsion bob in the rear and jumps off anything. Very fast at top speed while still easily controlable. front disc has great stopping power.
Weaknesses:No real weaknesses as far as I can tell. Great all around bike but sometimes hill are a little difficult because the bike is heavy.
    Similar Products Used:Giant Warp
    Bike Setup:Dialed
Bottom Line:Great Bike, worth the money.

Submitted by Mellow Yellow a Cross Country Rider from Seattle, Wa
    Date Reviewed: March 6, 2001
    Favorite Trail:St Edward's Park
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Purchased At:Gregg's Greenlake
Strengths:Few I could find. This is a great bike for a beginner in the sport of mtb'ing. But if you're a somewhat experienced rider, skip this!
Weaknesses:Adjusting the rear travel doesn't make a real difference in the handle of the bike. It seems to be a marketing ploy. Rear swing arm did NOT come disk ready. ...And you're supposed to be able to DH this bike?!
    Similar Products Used:Trek Y33; GT STS1.
Bike Setup:Marzoc Jr T; Sun Rynno Lites; XT/9.0 SRAM; KORE stem and 2" riser.
Bottom Line:I was very disapointed with this bike. I never felt that I was totally dialed into it. I had it for one year as a warranty for the Y33. At the time I'm writting this review I'm trying to sell the frame and having a lot of difficulty unloading it. Trek seemed to have stop trying with the creation of this frame. With Trek, I will only use any OCLV hard tail frames only; for both off and road frames. Trek seemed to have stopped trying to improve full suspention and have reduced them selves to bikes that equal in quality with the bikes you would find in Target.
