$650.00 | | Purchased At: | AGEES | | Strengths: | Takes a beating, never cracks, good for stickers, rides great. | | Weaknesses: | The gears are messed up all the time, it produces alot of oil, the pedal thing with the ball barings is shot. the pedals wiggle around as if theyre falling off. | | Similar Products Used: | Giant. | | Bike Setup: | It came with crappy jett front shocks, but a year after getting it i had put on these sweet marzocchi x-fly shocks ($350 front) and i got my friends shock witch is shimano based (rear) makes it soft as hell. ive added side bars also. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is a dream to me and im not taking care of it like i should, but even with the pedal ball baring problems it rides and rides till i get hit by a beer truck. handles great down hill. especially when i went against 12 racers for a 5 mile race and i placed 2nd ( o i forgot that was my crappy hard tail Giant bike). They aren't light components but that just means they are made of stronger materials. Handles mud and downhill great and comes with a nice large rear chain ring for climbs. I mean, its frame is unbreakable and even though I've been trough 2 bike-against-car(truck) accidents, none of the peices were damaged enough to highly affect the performence of the bike. High corrision resistance, I've been into salty waters, snow, mud, everything, but in the end, the only rusting part was the chain. The breaks are average ones, they do the job and that's what's important. The seat ok, I can't say I use it often. The bike can keep the road even though it is a light one, at speeds up to 85 km/hour, but it's a hell of a job to keep it in the trails at that speed. I can't beleive the wheels are still the original ones, they are slightly bent, but not enough to notice it on the road, or in the trails. I've been riding it for more then 2 years now (average of 340 days per year) and it's overall performence still amazes me. Easy to upgrade, this bike, if used for extrem riding, could last for 10 years at least. So if you are more the kind of person that rides every weekend, but not in winter, it can last for 25 years + for sure! Not to mention that I am a weekend warrior ... 7 days a week and that I just can't get trough that bike! I guess I underestimated its potential, because before buying it, I was hesitating with this, and a Peugeot, but I decided to take the Trek Y1 because it was more affordable, but I expected it to be just an average mountain bike, guess I was wrong! | | Weaknesses: | The rear derailleur. The Shimano Avilio (spell?) that comes with the bike really isn't something great. It's offering near-below average performances, and it's hard to reach the last gears after a year. But that's not really problem! Just put a Deore LX and there you go! Also, it is not the kind of bike you want to add accessories on. I wasted money buying front-wheel mud-guards, now I found ONE that seems to do the job for a rear-wheel mud-guard, but it's not really efficient. | | Bike Setup: | Hard rear suspention, medium front suspention. Tires are rather soft, providing more grip. I ride constantly in last gear of the rear derailleur, and I shift with the petal derailleur when I need to slow down for a stop, or go uphill. | | Bottom Line: | For what it has to offer, it's a very affordable bike for someone that doesn't feel like paying 2000$ + to feel like they really have a good MTB. Cheap to upgrade, it can have a long life and the only thing that will probably put an end to your bike, is an accident that will have put an end to your life. Not really very heavy and although the components are low end they all work quite well for your average person and are easily upgraded if you are so inclined. I got the bike due to its low cost but still sporting nice features which will help me learn more about cycling and see what mountain biking is all about without spending thousands of dollars on something that gets left in storage if bikes aren't for me.

The bike only cost about $600 however i had some things added such as clip pedels and ect... | | Weaknesses: | The rear tire became puntured after about 117 miles on the bike, however this was because of a thorn that became loged in the tire however it has been said to have bad rear tires so i am thinking about having both replaced when i upgrade the fork and had disk brakes put on.
I have not had very many problems aside from wires streching, however that is normal for any of the shelf bike just purchased. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek Y3 or the Trek Y SL 200 & 300. | | Bike Setup: | (not to sure about these) Shimano atlus alvo front and rear deralers, Rock Sox Front suspention (not the best, i am planing on getting air shocks when i upgrade the fork).

This bike is great for what ever you are getting it for, weather it be off road, riding for your neighborhood or some serious rock hoping (however i do recomend upgrading to a better front fork and having disk brakes added). I LOVE the paint job they did for 2001 model. i hope to see better and better Y models from my fav bike manufature TREK, however i dont not care for the new 2002 Y26, i just dont like the frame that much, however ive never riden it so i really cant say that much.
