Left a guy on a Dura-Ace equipped Lightspeed in the dust on the road with my commuter Panaracer Pasaelo's, and yes he was trying. This bike also performs well on down hill, but it's not a bomber. Feels like riding a hard-tail uphill and on long flats. Takes the edge off on the single track down-hills. I wouldn't recommend taking any four footers with this bike, though.
Switched to XT cranks because the Icon cranks had so much flex that the shifting sometimes felt out of adjustment, even though things were aligned perfectly. I would give a 5 chili value if they had XT cranks stock. Overall, I am extremely happy with this bike.

Especially since I only paid 1500.00 dollars for it.(new)This is my first "full suspension" Mt bike. And after riding a hard tail here in southern Nevada for the past eight years this bike is PLUSH. Was a little sceptical about it having Rockshox at first. Had some problems with my old Mag10. But so far so good. After I got the shocks dialed in the ride got even better. The owners manuel is a little off on the set-up of the air pressures for the rear shock. Trek could have done a better job at protecting the chain stay from chain suck. changed out the Icon crank for an XT and the shifting is flawless. The rear hub is being seviced as I write. Overall this bike is awesome. But it has to be ridden like a hard tail, to feel the true benifits of its leafspring technology. This bike is more suited for the experienced crosscoutry/freeride cyclist. Beginners won't be able to appreciate this bike, due to the lack of their experience. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Replacing cranks & BB soon. | | Bottom Line: | Overall a good bike except for the piece-o-crap rear hub. Apparently there was a problem with the heat treating of an internal part that shattered, resulting in considerable grinding noise and thus lateral slop. Long story short, LBS good, Trek Rep bad. The original wheelset was eventually replaced (after three visits/fixes)with Urracco tubeless compatible. The replaced wheelset then suffered the same fate as the original set. I will be bringing this set in for the second time. Five trips for the same freakin' problem and the Rep just wants the LBS to rebuild the hub again! Trek knew there was a possiblity that the second wheelset may have the defective rear hub. Instead of having the LBS replace the guts immediately, before giving me the wheel, they rolled the dice and hoped there wouldn't be a problem. Stock Avid's don't work nearly as well as Arch Rival's or XTR's (maybe it was set-up others seem to like them). Ultimately thats what it's all about going faster with less work. It gets a 4 for value because even with the current discounts it's still a lot of money for a bike you to switch out pedals (and maybe cranks) on.
