Strengths:29 lbs stock. Love the TALAS front shock. The TALAS definitely helps on the climb up. Great components, it shifts very smoothly and breaks well.
Weaknesses:Don't really care for the grips. Also, I would love to have an adjustable pneumatic seat.
Similar Products Used:2006 Trek EX7
Bike Setup:stock
Bottom Line:Love the bike. Made me sick to spend that much but you definitely get what you paid for. My only other mountain bike is a 2006 Trek Ex7 XC bike. The Remedy is lighter and burlier. It climbs and decends far better than the EX7. The extra ground clearance with having 6inches of travel compared to 4 inches allows me to roll over rocks that would have given me problems. I researched bikes for 4 weeks before deciding on the Remedy 9 and I'm confident I made the right choice. I'm not liking the 2010 Remedy with 150mm travel and the Talas 32. I'm all about 160mm and Talas 36.

Purchased At:Trek Pro City
Strengths:The real thing. This really is an all mountain bike and can do it all.
Weaknesses:Waiting for everyone else at the top of the climbs
Waiting for everyone else at the bottom of the descents
Similar Products Used:RM Slayer, SC Nomad, Remedy 8
Bike Setup:Kenda Nevagal tubeless, Koobi saddle, XT peddles
Bottom Line:If you are looking for a bike that can do it all and do it well then check out the Remedy 9. After getting this bike I went on a month long biking vacation that started with a two day sea 2 sky ride (Whistler Area). This has single track, logging roads a bit of pavement, technical climbs and descents and the Remedy excelled at all. I thought my RM Slayer was a great climber but this is even better, truly amazing. With the wide handlebars that open up your chest and the no bob platform and 29lbs you feel you can climb all day. This is very stable descending with amazing brakes. The active braking suspension allows you to brake late into the corner and carry more speed on exit.
Although there are three levels of fork adjustment travel I found that I could climb even the steepest hills on the maximum 160mm setting. About the only time I found the shorter travel setting useful is for extended standing climbs. Same is true for the pro peddle for the shock, this remains off once I hit the trails.
If you can't afford the the Remedy 9 than check out the 8. This is a better deal, just a bit heavier.

Strengths:Light, stiff enough, great brakes, Excellent climber. Awesome high speed descender.
Weaknesses:Weird falling rate suspension makes manuals and play jumps a strange thing. Terrible use of Extra volume rear shock.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Enduro, Cannondale Prophet, SC Heckler, Blur LT
Bike Setup:Stock but now with spacers in the XV air sleeve.
Bottom Line:This bike blows me away overall. It's unlike Prophet and Enduro and really does better at what those bikes do best, which makes it the only bike I ever ride anymore...

If you buy one your other bikes will collect dust.

Gotta reduce the air volume though, otherwise the bike is very XC oriented.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $5000.00
Purchased At:Summit Bicycles
Strengths:very active suspension
great selection of parts
climbs very very well
goes down even better
28.6 pounds completely stock without pedals
stiff front end
jumps well, really does everything great!
Weaknesses:some parts were off for this level of bike:
The cassette and bar were both off for this level of bike.
The jones tires are great as a rear tire, but cornering on the front was bad. Soon to be solved by a big earl up front
Similar Products Used:heckler, nomad, epiphany, moment, various banshees, yeti asx, trek liquid, dakars, and many others.
Bike Setup:stock as it is now
Bottom Line:This bike is a nomad killer. Coming from a nomad i could not believe how much better the remedy was. The two bikes had very similar group kits and the remedy just killed every bike i tried in the category.

Strengths:- Head tube - check out this beefy front end and you can't help but feel confident with this ride in any condition
- Down tube - multi-dimensional super fat aluminum goodness
- Trek's Evo Link design provides 6" of smooth travel that remains plush through the rough stuff AND while braking courtesy of the ABP (Active Braking Pivot) design that wraps the pivot around the rear axle. That's some sweet bike geekery going on here!
- The Avid Juicy carbon brakes provide a sure and solid feel with nice modulation and the braking feel
- Crisp SRAM shifting
- Super stable feeling at high speeds through rough downhill single track (Demo Forest Ridge and Tractor Trail) I think I ripped down Tractor the fastest I've ever pushed and this was my first ride on this bike!
- Handles log drops and jumps with an ease that makes me want to go bigger! This handles drops with aplomb.
- The Crank Brothers Joplin is a must have for me now...never mind the extra weight.
Weaknesses:- lighter touch action with the SRAM shifters
- ergonomics of the SRAM shifters force wrist flexion and is ergonomically more difficult than a trigger shift with the index finger
- 1 degreee steeper head angle to aid with agility in the tight 'n twisty stuff
- Talas with adjustable travel, I did like the feel and stiffness of the Float but really missed the travel adjustments of the Talas
- Wider bars please, blame my BMX roots
Similar Products Used:Blur LT
Bike Setup:Stock except for Crank Brothers Joplin post and SDG saddle
Bottom Line:video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pF0vgWnn-M

Just taking a look at this steed is almost enough to get your heart racing even before you start pedaling. I have an '05 Blur LT as my personal bike and it has served me well the last 3 years. I really thought I'd be hard pressed to get on a new bike and feel like I would love it enough to go out and jones for a new one. Well, when I took my first close looks at the Trek in the garage with my Blur LT hanging in close proximity, I felt the Blur LT start to shudder with jealousy. It felt almost as if I was taking my wife out to dinner and and a super hot chick was giving me the eye...yeah right, like I got that kinda game, but I digress.

Take a look at the downtube, headtube and beautifully sculpted EVO linkage and it's blatantly apparent that there is some heavy engineering and craftsmanship that goes into building this all mountain, nimble beast. The custom drawn tubing is a delight to gander and feels so solid and confidence inspiring in the rough stuff.

This rig is plush through the rocks and ruts even while simultaneously braking and arcing through rough, high speed turns. You'll find yourself instantly able to push new limits with the plush and seemingly bottomless travel provided by the EVO link and RP23 Fox Shock. I recall the days when a 6" travel bike was a downhill shuttle machine for the most part or you had to heft 35 plus pounds and really suffer up the hills before you could enjoy the downhills. Well enter the Trek Remedy 9 with this sub 30 lb. bike equipped with a Crank Brothers Joplin to drop the seat quickly when you're ready to bomb down a steep and rough mountain section or pop it back up for optimal leg extension when you suddenly transition from fast downhill to a G-out and a steep uphill section. Think about the steep climbing section on Ridge Trail just before you get to the Corral Trail/Ridge Trail split. While not exactly a mountain goat on the climbs due to the relaxed head angle and non-travel-adjustable Fox Float. The combination of the lax head angle and long travel Fox Float really forces you to move your weight to the extreme front section of your seat and keep your chin down to keep the front end from skittering around on steep climbing sections. For longer gradual climbs like Hinh's Mill the geometry is not such a nagging factor. Trek has struck a nice balance between light weight, longer travel, and tolerable ascent capabilities with this model in their line up...it really is a do all, go out and rip it to the limits kind of ride. This suspension design just plain works and it works well enough to make me seriously want this for my next bike.

What I dig:
- Head tube - check out this beefy front end and you can't help but feel confident with this ride in any condition

- Handles log drops and jumps with an ease that makes me want to go bigger! This handles drops with aplomb.
- The Crank Brothers Joplin is a must have for me now...never mind the extra weight.

Opportunities for improvement:
- lighter touch action with the SRAM shifters
- ergonomics of the SRAM shifters force wrist flexion and is ergonomically more difficult than a trigger shift with the index finger
- 1 degreee steeper head angle to aid with agility in the tight 'n twisty stuff
- Talas with adjustable travel, I did like the feel and stiffness of the Float but really missed the travel adjustments of the Talas

Favorite Trail:Marin trail North Wales
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:UK
Strengths:Strong frame and the ability to tackle anything, this bike is super fast in the twisty stuff but descends like a full-on DH rig. Best of all - you can pedal it back up again!
Weaknesses:Saddle was binned on the first day and replaced with an SDG Belair, stem also replaced with Easton Vice. It's worth taking your time to set up this bike; I'm still experimenting six months on, next mod - tubeless tyres. Also may convert fork to TALAS unit, it wont be cheap but feel Trek should have fitted a TALAS fork in the first place. The bike does have a tall front end and that’s essential when you’re going down, but for comfortable climbing you need to drop it down. That's the only criticism I have about this bike, "all mountain" means climbing too and the flagship model should have come with an adjustable fork.
Similar Products Used:Giant Faith 1, Spesh Stumpy Expert.
Bike Setup:Still messin with everything but it's just getting better all the time.
Bottom Line:Love it, it's fast, it's strong and I can ride it all day. Almost top marks Trek Bikes but why didn't this bike get a TALAS fork? The perfect all mountain rig was so close this time but I mark it down for that fact alone.
You've got to be pretty fit and strong to get the best from this bike, every ride is attack, attack, attack, but that's not a bad thing, it's just the nature of an "all mountain" bike. Maybe the TALAS fork is a UK thing, or even a personal issue - however, every other area of performance gets 10 out of 10 in my book.

Similar Products Used:08 SC Heckler
Bike Setup:RS Revelation fork, Deemax rims,Raceface x-type crank. Full XT.
Bottom Line:I got this frame as a warranty replacement for my broken older Remedy. Wow, I got a brand-new Remedy 9 frame with a new Fox shox for free! Trek stands behind their product! As the others have said, this frame is incredible; Trek really put their money in some outstanding design work. I have a brand new 08 Heckler and I can really say that the Trek is a lot more sophisticated. It accelerates a lot faster and the stopping distance is just sick. I get used to the stopping distance with the Trek and then go back to the Heckler and I'm constantly sliding off the trail at turns. The weight on the Trek is awesome - you can easily build it below 30 lbs. I don't have the full factory build on the Trek so I'm not using it to its full potential but it's a great bike. The rear end with the full floater design and the ABP are incredible. I wish Trek would sell just frames and offer more colors. They have a frame here that will compete with the boutique brands. Great job Trek.

Strengths:Suspension, travel, stiff front
Weaknesses:Stem and tires
Similar Products Used:Nothing really, I have a FR Santa Cruz Heckler setup
Bike Setup:Stock with only stem and tires replaced by much better selection
Bottom Line:BLUF: Very good bike for what many are calling an expensive bike.
Details: First of all why did they spec the paint scheme for the Remedy 9 with pearl white and the Remedy 8 with the ass kicking orange? Maybe I'm the only one that has a fettish with Orange or something but pearl white was the color of my POS Trek Antelope 830 back in the day and it was the entry level color
Macro: Other than that I can't complain. I mean, you know that Trek is going to spec Bontrager on everything and they were suppose to except instead of getting the Jones tires I got some reject Maxxis tires that I had to switch out just after my first ride to protect my own personal safety. I switched them out with my fav Kenda Nevagals. The "Best" tire on the market and I switched out the "race" stem for something that better complimented the stiff E2 front. Still have not settled on the stem but it took me only a year and a half to do that on my Heckler. The stem selection was borderline unsafe as well. The bike gave you enough confidence to make some risky moves but the stem height and such was not for me. Other than that the E2, ABP, Full Floater was "all that" and then some. Phenominal design and sexy tubes, I am definately glad that I made the purchase. BTW, the 09' model is about $1200 more so I don't feel so bad getting the stem and tires now.

Price Paid: $4500.00
Purchased At:Hyland Family Bicycles
Strengths:This is the best bike I've ever owned. It rides well on the street, and 10 times better off the road. Trek hit a home run with this one. The full floater system for the rear shock gives it a truly bottomless feel when descending. The climbing is excellent as well for an all mountain bike with 6" of travel. The E2 steertube gives it an awesome stiffness in the front combined with my 30" bars! The Fox fork rocks, and the rear shock has a nice oversized air canister. This bike weighs 30.5lbs with all my stuff on it. Thats a wonderful difference compared to my '05 Liquid which weighed 36.75lb.

Wow is all I can say for the Remedy... I've waited 3 months for it, and its finally here!
Weaknesses:My only complaint is that the ZR9000 aluminum is so thin that when my chain hits the chainstay (even with a guard) it makes a loud clank.
Similar Products Used:Trek Liquid 65, Trek Fuel EX 8, Yeti 575
Bike Setup:The only mods I've made to the stock bike were some nice platform pedals, a Kenda Nevegal front tire, and an Bontrager Race saddle.
Bottom Line:BUY THIS BIKE AND EXPERIENCE ALL THE JOY THAT COMES WITH IT!!

Strengths:The float suspension and abp work extremely well together giving the bike a bottomless feel. I can almost close my eyes and take any line down a rock garden with out knocking myself off the handlebars. The bike came tubeless with Kenda Nevegal tires.
Weaknesses:The brakes needed to be bled after the first ride. The seat the Remedy came with was a joke on comfort for any length of rides.
Similar Products Used:Trek Fuel EX8, Foes FXR
Bike Setup:I took an inch off the 30" bars, put a crank brother candy pedals, larger lock on grips and MTB pure V saddle.
Bottom Line:WOW for the money and weight this bike can't be beat. For long climbs i don't really noticed any difference from the EX8. I feel this bike is a great purchase for guys; like myself, who don't own any tight bike clothing and like a beer after the ride.
