I'm a big guy that has taken this bike everywhere. I've dropped 10' rocks in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and I've XC it in a Western ND summer (100+ with minimal water). It's stood up to it all with only minor tweakings, nothing that can't be fixed out on a trail. The weight is great for an AM at just over 23 lbs with repair kit. The only thing I'm going to change is putting on a lockout front shock. The Super Black is nice and has a great rebound, but try to stand over the bars while climbing a mountain and there is too much shock loss. I wish they still made this bike so I could recommend it to everyone. Ir you could only buy one bike, this should be it. Even if you can buy more than one, I'd still buy this. It's too versatile not too own.

Good geometry. Puts you in somewhat of an upright position but not too much. Just right for steep hillclimbs.
Weaknesses:
Components. Its an all mountain bike but the componentry speeks utherwise. I changed the rear derailer to a sram x9 from a 7. Front fork to a Marzochi am1 front derailer to shimano Dior xt tires to Kenda Nevagals 2.35 front 2.1 rear. Longer headset. New seat to a rocket V. Now Im shopping for a new rear shock. In my oppinion Manitoue suspension really dissapointed me, for as long as theyve been around they should be lightyears ahead of what they are now.

105 headset. Puts me out a little bet farther considering the bike puts you more upright. Works well with those sick downhills, also when bustin a nice jump. keeps me from eatin dirt.
Bottom Line:
Look for what I paid and the experience I had at the time it was a greeaat deal. I learned how to ride on this bike. It a great bike. I see some of my buddies riggs and the money thay paid doesnt equal what I got in this bike. Just upgrade the componits and you got yourself a sick setup. treks been around for a while I think there starting to get it right.....Ive rode this bike all over the east coast and its never done me wrong, I would defenatly recomend this bike to anyone who rides hard.

Decent bike. Trek claims "all mountain" but the feel of the bike is more like a full suspension cross country set up. Climbs good with minimal pedal bob while standing but you do feel some if you're really having to hammer up a hill. Not sure if it's me or not but seems a little twitchy on descents. Was my first mountain bike so it might have been me getting used to the bike, but I'm not sure if I'd market it as an "all mountain" bike unless you wanted to replace the 2.1 wheels and tires with 2.35's. Bontrager seat broke about 3 months into riding and had to be replaced, but I was going to put on a WTB anyway. Small cog on rear cassette broke a tooth off as well, but SRAM replaced entire cassette under warranty with no hassles. Good overall bike for the cross country guy who wants to take some bigger drops and I've yet to push it past it's limits.

The Manitou black super, actually all the parts of this bike do not fit for its intended use, try to look under the sterm, (Bontrager sterm)their is a "warning"

I do not know what the intention was to make this bike if you compare with the session 7 . This bike is ok for agressive xc and light freeride, but for bikeparks NO, and downhill not at all. This bike should have come with a 140 mm suspension, coil rear shock, chainguide and only a 32/22
chain rings,the bottom high should have been higher which allowed to modified the lenght of the suspension without lose control. I tried all kinds of riding with this bike,. I guess you can not make a bike that can do everything. its a funn bike to ride, but if you plan to ride in bike parks, I will not recommend it.

A good bike, but it does not work smoothly on technical rocky trails. I PERSONNALY LIKE MY BIKE, BUT IT HAS HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS. It is great for its intended use, but you've got to be careful on downhill.

- Good amount of travel with less bob than many XC bikes - Nice durable finish - Good drivetrain - Climbs very well for an AM bike - Inspires confidence, extremely stable downhill - Can roll over practically anyting
Weaknesses:
- Could lose a few pds, but overall not very heavy at all considering it's an All-Mountain bike - Sometimes drops the chain on big hits - Some components could be better - No lockout on front or rear shocks
If you ride agressive XC and AM this is the bike for you. It really can do everything, and very well. It is not speed demon race bike, but thats not what its biult for. Climbs very well for a AM bike and is still plenty fast in the flats thanks the rear shock setup and SPV, which eliminated nearly all bob. I love it.
Overall it comes almost perfect from Trek. The rear cassette didn't last very long, I replaced it with a SRAM PG970 which is holding up much better
Replaced the chain with a Wipperman which really cleaned up the shifting.
The seatpost and stem are low end parts, replaced them with lighted parts.
Plan to replace the front derailuer in the hopes of preventing the chain popping off over larger hits.
The stck Bontrager Jones ACX tires are awesome. Loads of grip, roll well, and much lighter than other silimilar tires.

SPV rocks!!! It makes up for the added weight of an all-mountain. Super strong frame. Good components. Climbs pretty well. Say goodbye to pedal bob. The anodized black frame looks and feels GREAT!!!

This is one of the best "do it all" bikes. If you can only have 1 bike, this is the one you want. You can do some light freeride, jumps, XC, and then ride all the way home. The SPV on the rear shock is awesome! You can even pedal standing up, and feel no pedal-bob. Flying down hill and over rough stuff is not an issue with this bike; it's very confidence inspiring, so you will attempt things you would not have dreamed in the past.

got a carbon handlebar, very neat. Easy to use rear shock and fork, Manitou 3 way, manitou black spv. No bob at all when pedaling. Handles well in turning and in tight spots

climbing since it is in the all mountain catagory but not that bad
Long story short....... Wanted a Fisher cake 1 badly but fisher ran out of the 1. Honestly never considered a Trek untill I rode the fuel 7 and then looked at the Remedy in the catalog. Very simply a bad ass bike. Am so impressed with what Trek has done to revamp their liquid line. It is a little heavy and not as good a climber as my hardtail is, but it does provide so much more confidence for me going over roughter terrain. Got a 17.5 over my 19 inch hardtail. That made a huge difference. Also Treks geometry is far more relaxed than fishers, more upright and relaxed. This is the 5 inch version and the 06 model. Very solid bike. Though in Tucson there are not a lot of big climbs like in CO that I am used to. More than pleased with my selection on a bike. Something I want to take out constantly and ride.

Strengths:
Feels light when riding and seems to hug the trail when riding over a myriad of small bumps. Climbs very well – certainly ion a par to my hardtail. Anodised frame seems to keep the scratches at bay and adds to the quality feel of the bike.
Weaknesses:
I find the handlebars rather thin prefer fatter bars, but not much wrong with this beast.
