Weaknesses:The seat and chain rollers suck! Take them off.
Similar Products Used:Many
Bike Setup:All stock with the exception of a new 32 tooth front ring that I sandwiched between two Race Face bash guards. It is now totally indestructable. A JR.T would really make this bike bomb proof.

Strengths:frame, rims, avid mech. disc, marzochi forks all beg to be abused!
Weaknesses:the seat(replace this first off unless you plan on not having any children!!) broke it in a day, the chain guide is poo.... buy a granny gear ring and get a front derailer...and shifters, the brake levers are ok ....untill they need to be replaced, did I mention the seat???....blahhh!!

Submitted by Brandon van Leuven a Cross Country Rider from Grand Forks, ND
Date Reviewed: April 19, 2002
Favorite Trail:San Juan Trail in So. Cal.
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $950.00
Purchased At:Ski and Bike Shop - Grand Forks, ND
Strengths:Fun bike for drop-offs and stair gap jumps. Solid frame and wheelset beg to be abused. The Z4 is also a good spec choice for this bike. This is my first Marzocchi fork and so far I am very impressed with it's performance. It's stiffness and 100mm of travel suits the Bruiser well.
Weaknesses:Avid brakes work well when dialed in. HOWEVER, the lock ring mechanism in my rear brake blew out on the first day requiring me to send both brakes back to Avid for rebuild. Also, Promax levers are cheesy and do not work well with Avid calipers.
Similar Products Used:None, this is my first Hucker.
Bike Setup:Completely stock. (so far)
Bottom Line:A great bike for tooling around town and testing your skills and bravery on. If you are looking for a good all-round bike, this is not the one for you. It is heavy (32lbs.) and very slow with those 2.35 knobbies. But if you want a bike you can beat the crap out of and not feal bad... this is the way to go.

Favorite Trail:urban and fast single track
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $750.00
Purchased At:First Trax
Strengths:Powerful Rims and tires and the one of the strongest hardtail frames around. Avid disc brakes are great!!!
Weaknesses:not much for weaknesses accept the pedals and the chainquide which i have already upgraded
Similar Products Used:none others no need to!
Bike Setup:added Sun Ringle platforms and with a better chainguide and still have the Z4
Bottom Line:if u want a bike with a strong frame and that will take a beating and still want the hardtail for stiffness then the bruiser is a great bike for you. This bike can take a hell of a beating and manuals like a dream. Great bike to get if u want to get into more freeriding.

Favorite Trail:Urban
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $950.00
Purchased At:cycle sport
Strengths:Frame, wheels and almost everything else.
Weaknesses:Truvativ cranks. They creak like mad and the pedal threads stripped out really fast. Headset comes loose kinda easy. Only comes in one color. Truvativ chainguide and the seat sucks.
Similar Products Used:crappy bikes
Bike Setup:All stock except for raceface crank, bmx seat, Kujo 2.65 front tire and shimano hyraulic front brake
Bottom Line:The bike is extremely solid. The cranks lasted awhile before they broke. I'm just upgrading parts as they brake. Highly reccomend getting this bike except if you live in Ashland...we dont need something similar to the P.3 epidemic happening with the bruiser. Awesome bike for the value and price.

Favorite Trail:anything good
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:dynamic cycle
Strengths:everything!! geometry is just right and manuals like a dream. strong wheels, strong bars, strong everything. best mechanical disc brakes ever
Weaknesses:the seat is a pointy brick. it's one of those stupid xc seats that hurt. also the formula hubs don't last that long either. the truvativ chainguide also sucks. I went through a few of them before completly taking it off
Similar Products Used:tried a p3 but didn't like it
Bike Setup:mostly everything's stock except the seat which is an NRG DH, I replaced the truvativ chainguide with a welfare plus chainguide, and I'm getting a jr.t
Bottom Line:it's an amazing bike if it's built up right. it comes with some crap parts like the chainguide and the seat but for $1500 cdn it's a great deal
