Bottom Line:
These tires are great. I WOULD be using the Fires on the rear, but they won't fit. The DHs fit snugly, but don't rub the stays.
What I like best about these tires is that they are so cushy. They seem to be made of a rubber that is softer than most, yet they wear fairly well. I also use them for commuting *gasp!*, so they get a lot of mileage. When you can find them for $20 or less, they are a supreme deal.
My thinking from the get-go was, yeah, they're heavy. But maybe I'll run these until I race (ha!) or go on a ride where I'll be struggling to keep up, and THEN I'll put on a lighter weight shoe. But either that occasion has never arisen, or I just like them too much to change (or I'm just too damn lazy to put something else on).
I'm riding all sorts of terrain. Rocky gardens to soft, pine-cushioned trails. They hook up everywhere.
I'm hoping that Tioga keeps making these. If not, I need to stock up. Keep me posted, Tioga. :^P

nice, thick sidewalls.....2.3 sits like a 2.6 on my rims.....Can last forever, depending on how you use them.
Weaknesses:
The only time this tire works extremely well is in medium to dry conditions when its being used as a rear tire on a hardtail. I know this isnt saying much for the tire, but This is usually the conditions i rode in, so it worked great most of the time.

Started with an oryx dd66 hardtail where it served very well as a back tire, then moved onto a Balfa bb7, where it doesnt seem to like to grip very well....weird.....
Bottom Line:
I think that any rider that needs a cheap tire should look for this one, as it'll last a good while, and once it goes bald, like mine eventually did, you can use it as an urban or street tire! This tire performed unusually well while running at low pressure on my hardtail, and served as asweet street tire after balding when run at a high pressure. NEVER RUN THIS TIRE WITH A NARROW RIM!!! you should always run it with an alex dx32 or doublewide or similar to get the full effect of a good-gripping, well rounded tire! Narrow rims cut down on the ability to run at low pressures and suck for bigger hits when the landing gets gnarly. Everybody, enjoy your tires. See you on the trails!

bought these tires as my others had totally run out of tread- my first mistake. My second mistake was trying to corner with them- they had the nasty habbit of sliding out from under me, particually on the road. I know they arn't designed to be used on the road, but it does help if it's safe to cycle to the local trails, instead of taking the car. Leave them alone.

I rode this tire in the rear for exactly 22 miles, At the start of my ride I experienced very sketchy cornering characteristics. I even stopped because I thought I'd flatted. As the ride progressed I felt a noticable improvement in the cornering. Starting to feel better about my purchase, I rolled to the end of the trail, looked down at my new rear tire and to my suprise 80% of the knobs were ripped off.
Take my experiance however you like, but I now question this tire's integrity and would never pay money for another one.
P.S. To Mad Dog's credit, they took it back no questions asked.

i usually run these tires caus for the price you can get them, and how long they last, the performance is outstanding. theyre really good in mud, shed real fast. also theyre are not that heavy for the size.
im about 180 and run these at 25psi front 30psi back with no problems. of course, it is my freeride bike so i run downhill tubes.
highly recommended for hard core trail riding.

They r very easy to mount to my MAvix rims. Not that heavy. Sheds mud pretty well.
Weaknesses:
Sidewalls are EXTREMELY thin.They squirm in corners and berms. Not as tough as say a Panaracer Fire XC nor does it hook up in as many situations.

I'm a 195 lbs rider. And i ride pretty aggressively. These tires fold in corners because the sidewalla are soo thin. And Tioga has the nerve to put DH on these tires. Ride these tires and your gonna be the one going down the hill - WITHOUT YOUR BIKE!!!! Ride em until u get enough cash to replace them. The only good thing about these tires is that there not that heavy and they were easy to put on the rim. Other than that if ur going away on a trip or something i wouldn't advise taking these tires. The sidewalls are ready to rip. Go with some Maxxis Mobsters or Mofo's or some Michelin Wildgrippers or even a set of Panaracer Fire XC's or the 2.3 DH versions. Their kind of heavy but their durable and work well in hell of a lot more situations than the Tioga's.

First off this review is for the 2.3 Kevlar DH tire. I ride mostly desert terrain and loose rock trails. I am not a urban rider. This tire seems to be very good under these conditions. Floats well in medium depth sand and rides well in dry river/creek bottoms. Climbs well at slow speed and brakes consistently on poof powder. Only one flat in 300 miles and that was caused by a very sharp cactus.
Weaknesses:
To dam heavy for XC. Side walls are very tough to get on and off the rim. Breaks loose in high speed turns but will lock in if you have the nerve to ride it out.
Bike Setup:
Rocky Mountain Slayer, Sun SUV rims and Sram Rockets.
Bottom Line:
I am a heavy rider. These tires are doing fine. Wear seems to be a bit fast but that is probably caused by the soft compound. I like them but will probably try another 2.3 - 2.4 wide lighter tire.

A good all around tire. They are very grip and the tread pattern is knobby. I liked the rubber compound used. It is soft ans tacky.

Side casing is weak. Look out for pinch flats, but increase the tire pressure
