Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:http://finishlinebik
Strengths:traction, appearance (light grey)
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:too many to list
Bike Setup:Custom built Miyata Elevation 2oo0
Bottom Line:Best matched tire set I've ever ridden. Mostly dry hardpack, these tires hooked no matter what I threw at them. Performance was only mediocre on wet pavement, but it's not often you take mountain tires on wet pavement.

Favorite Trail:Centenary walk, Epping (20+miles)
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:Cycle surgery, Spitalfields.
Strengths:High and wide sidewall treads. Rear only traction paddle treads. 1.95 were more like 2.1 in feel.
Weaknesses:No puncture protection.
Similar Products Used:Continental, kenda, Hutchinson, Michelin, Schwalbe and Specialized to name a few.
Bike Setup:CC and DH. (Rigid, hardtail and full sus.)
Bottom Line:When paired with either a Panaracer Dart or a Schwalbe Black arrow (these on the front), no other tyre combination since has given me the same amount of confidence when cornering on loose ground at speed.

Tioga, please make these tyres again. (Likewise for Panaracer..)

Favorite Trail:Hmmmm?
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:Came with bike :P
Strengths:Great in hardpack soil. Cheap nowadays.Looks nice?
Weaknesses:SUPER squishy in gravel and loosepack. Fishtails more in gravel than loosepack though; feels heavier in loosepack than gravel :P
The compound Tioga used in the knobs is a bit soft, and it stripped on me on my first ride in 1996, but it's been pretty nice over these past 6 years, as long as you dont lock the brakes or ride on asphalt.
Similar Products Used:No other rear tire
Bike Setup:1996 Fisher Mt. Tam
Bottom Line:Good rear tire if you ride in tight soil. Not good for gravel or loose soil. Don't use it too often on asphalt, it'll strip faster than on hardpack.

Five chilis for value (I think you can get one for $10 or so nowadays)
Four for overall (I don't like the strippage during a ride on hardpack, especially on a bike that was $1200 new :P)

Strengths:Mud!! Look good too.
Weaknesses:High rolling resistance, heavy
Similar Products Used:Fire XC Pro's, Wildgrippers, Smoke, Farmer John, Ground Control, etc...
Bike Setup:Easton Elite frame, XTR, XT, Raceface, hardtail
Bottom Line:I've been reluctant to install this tire since I've been using Panaracer Fire's and Wildgrippers for the last while, but, with a tonne of rain over the last few weeks, the old Pyscho TT came out. Skeptical at first until I hit the deep mud. Just like I remembered, they were excellent at chugging through it. I ran them at low pressure and got slaughtered on the fireroads, but I ruled the mud! (they weren't all that bad on wet rocks and roots either)
Would I race on these - no (tried it last year in a 24 hour - dumb). But if you are going for a recreational ride in loose to very wet conditions, and you'd rather have the traction than pure speed, these are great.

Bottom Line:We finally had some rain over the weekend. Combine some rain with slippery leaf covered trails, and some slipper rocks..ouch! At the last minute I put on the Tiogas. They were new on the wheels when I bought them. For this purpose they are outstanding. I walked past many riders on the uphills, and ripped up the downhill switchbacks. But, they really stunk on the fire roads, very slow. But hey, off road is where it's at. Sidewalls are spongy, pump em up past 45psi. PAT

Bottom Line:These tires climb great. They're light, and I've never had any pich flats - I ride 'em at about 40 psi off road. Southern Cali is dry, sandy on flats and rocky on hills, and these tires grip in all conditions. I've also ridden them in Illinois dirt (loam, it's called), and they were great. These tireas came OEM as front tires on my TREK. The tread wear is about average...two years and I'm just about ready for new ones. I'll give 'em five.

Bottom Line:

Like the k, the tt is an outstandinding tire and does what it is designed for; to be sticky and fast. It does wear fairly quick but any soft compound tire will. For the price you can find this grippy sticky tire, it's a no brainer. Oh, if your worried about flats then stay in the grass or someplace where there are no evil rocks, thorns and cactus. Or maybe you can just get some slime.

Overall I would like to say this is a good tire. My only problem is that I've got around 150 miles on the tire and I've already ripped the sidewall. I agree with the reviews of the other riders about rolling resistance and weight of the tire. I just think that the tire should be able to take a little more... Or am I just riding that hard? I don't know. It climbs great, and it throws mud poorly.

Submitted by Jay a cross-country rider from Lubbock, TX
Date Reviewed: October 17, 1998
Bottom Line:

This is a great tire for everyday/training rides. As stated in other reviews, they are heavy, but they are cheap. They do have more rolling resistance than some other tires on the road and on hard pack, but they don't lose traction in loose conditions as tires with lower rolling resistance tend to. these tires also seem to be very durable. Overall a great choice for training rides, club races, and general use. In a race where your trying to achieve your best time, I wouldn't recommend due to the weight and the high rolling resistance.

Bottom Line:

These tires are strictly for novice riders. The wieght alone is enough to turn most away; when you add the narrowly spaced treads which hold every gram of mud they touch you have a ten pound rolling doughnut. cornering can be stable only if you slow before the turn. They do not maintain consistancy: meaning that an unexpected switcback is a ticket to walk. I really don't like these tires, I switched to the green wildgrippers and would recommend the same to all

I just bought these tires and I was under the impression that they are for both front and rear use. I have looked all over the web and gotten very mixed reviews. I have a set of Panaracer Dusters on now, and I'm very happy with them, so I haven't even ridden my TT's yet. I would like to ask that if anyone sees this they could write me and let me know if you've ever put a TT on your front rim and if you have, what did you experience? I'm thinking of sending them back, even though they were dirt cheap. Just trying to decide. I do think they look cool!!!

Date Reviewed: September 4, 1998
Bottom Line:

For off road riding, the Tioga Psycho TT tires are great. I have never had any problems losing traction in dry conditions. The only problem with these tires is that they have way to much rolling resistance for on-road use. This makes commuting to work every morning a royal pain. But then again, these tires were not intended for the street.

Date Reviewed: September 1, 1998
Bottom Line:

I just got this tire on a new rear Matrix Swami rim(sweet rim!)a month ago. They're good for the $$. I ride about 35% DIRT & 65% road(commute) a week. On the pavement, for overall distance riding this tire is a drag. It's a killer Urban Assault Weapon. But on the DIRT, it rocks! So far the tire climbs like an ant, as long as you know how to climb(equal balance distribution). Has major grip in loose sand. Easy to maneouver around corners.
I Haven't riden it in much mud yet, and judging from previous reviews I don't plan to! I'll probably be shopping for a winter tire soon. Oh well, like I said it was a great tire for the price. Excellent tire for summer riding!
So I'd give it 5 burnin' monks for what I know, -1 for what I don't.....

Submitted by Jeff Wu a cross-country rider from Hsin Chu, Taiwan
Date Reviewed: August 16, 1998
Bottom Line:

Almost every member on my team uses this as a rear tire, but I never liked this tire. Climbing and braking traction are average. Conering traction sucks in every condition. It breaks traction too easily and is very unpredictable. Weight and rolling resistance are average for a knobby, but durability is pretty good. If you never lean your bike this is the tire for you.

I had these for one season and thought that they were pretty good. They held great in loose gravel and in hard pack, and they are made by a good co. So they lasted the whole season without too much where and tear. The only probs were that it filled up in mud(what tires dont)then when it was filled, I would have a hard time getting them unpacked. Atleast some tires lose mud faster. I give these 4 flaming bananas....5 for the traction, minus one for the lack of mud shedding.

Date Reviewed: August 10, 1998
Bottom Line:

I've gone about 250 miles on these tires, and they were fine, with a few possible exceptions. First, they are SLOOOOWWWW city tires, and they are awful in mud. But otherwise they were at least decent, and I'd reccommend this tire to a beginner off-roader.But the plot thickened when I bought my Bontrager Jones rear tire on sale two weeks ago. I hadn't had the chance to try anything other than the Tiogas before, and my experience with the Jones tires has been an eye opener. The Jones are better all-round tires, outperforming the Tiogas in almost every way. I suppose that's the difference between a $50 Kevlar-Beaded tire versus a cheap-ass tire, but the performance difference justifies the cost.In conclusion, the Psycho TT is not a bad tire, and if you are currently riding on one now, don't throw it out. It's just that a tire like my Jones is as user-friendly as the Psycho TT while improving the Tioga's poor performance in mud and high rolling resistance. So spend the money and buy good tires!

This tire came the back of my '97 Trek 6000. Since I bought it in the middle of January (and saved $130!), my first ride with it was in winter. I like the feel of the tire in snow, as it had pretty good grip. Then I took it through mud...
DUMB IDEA! Instead of quickly shedding the mud, it took 10 minutes of riding to cake half of the mud off. That ticked me off quite a bit...But on hardpack, these things grip well. I can climb pretty well in them, too. They give off a feeling of confidence, and if you weigh down your rear wheel, you will have traction. But they buzz annoyingly on pavement (where I do 85% of my riding) and slow you down quite a bit.To summarize:Good for:
-Snow riding
-Hard packBad for:-Mud Riding
-Pavement ridingSince I ride on pavement, I'll probably dispense with these and bolt on Speedmaxes.

These came stock on my '96 Fisher Supercaliber. My first time on front suspension. I wondered why I had no confidence in the front end on downhill forest rides, and why the bike wasn't too responsive on soft single-track. Then I tried Specialized Team control/Master, and rediscovered Traction with capital T. Psycho's suck, plain & simple. They have only two things going for 'em - they're (now) cheap, and I managed 1500 km out of 'em - 60% off road, the rest commuting. So now I'm off to try Panaracer Dusters, coz thar cheap too! Traction in mud - nah. Traction on hardpack? no way. At least they were light.

I like the TT's for traction and Fisher spec'd it on my Paragon.
Unfortunately Fisher doesn't understand about mud, wide tires
and chain stay clearance. I had to give these up for narrower tires
since the chain stays were wearing away as mud would roll up and
wedge between tire and stays. I miss them. (Fisher did replace my
frame though). 5 thingys for TT.

I can not say any thing good about these tires. Sadly one came stock on my bike It's okay when new but after a little bit they are worn and are very trashy. I live in a relatively dry place but there are some rides and times of the year when it is muddy and these things become about five times their origonal size. as far as climbing goes these are okay before they wear out which is again very fast. But once they are worn they just spin no matter what posection you are in. They are also very bad at climing in loose stuff. The braking is horrible I have my canties tuned very powerfuly but I will still slide about five feet. Today I was on a short down hill run and I had to slow down for a blind corner. What ended up happening was my bike being slung around in the air hauling me with it putting a nice gass in it and giving me lassorations around my family jewels and me messing up my new bike pants. All in all dont get these they are pieces of chiza. I'm getting Zmaxs.

A good tire for the streets or offroad. The rubber is real gummy and soft and that is good because it grips real well on whatever surface your riding on. The only thing is that my TREK zx6000 came with a phyco tt rear tire and a phyco K<<<<<< for the front. Its a good combination, both work great. These are the first and only tires I have ridden on( exept a long time ago on a cheap chinese made bike) I think they work fine and encourage you to try them sometime. ended up regretting these skins. Also, they wear quite fast and are'nt the

The Psycho TT came stock on my Fisher Joshua. There is no way that I would ever buy these tires. The TT does climb well, but they are horrible as far as traction goes. Everytime I pick up some speed and turn my rear end will break loose. When I ride down steep singletracks the rear just slides almost out of control. If you are a farily aggressive rider, don't even consider this tire. I have been lucky that I haven't crashed due to the loss of traction with these tires. I have velociraptors on my hardtail, and it is amazing how much more traction that tire has. I would give it one star except that they did seem to be okay before I became a more aggressive rider.
If you ride at very relaxed speeds, these tires may work well. I am losing these for a better performing tire.

Of course these tires are designed for x-country so I wouldnt count that against them. If I had to buy another pair I'd buy the Psycho TT again. It seems that a lot of weekend warriors are complaining about the longevity of the Psycho K.
You have to realize that the K (kevlar) tires are not designed to be long lasting. They are designed
to give great performance under hard riding. The Psycho reacts well when cornering,
grips hardpack and medium soft soil well and brakes well.

The Psycho TT Rear works GREAT! It climbs well and holds a line like few other tires out there!
I would not suggest them for muddy situations, as they were not designed for this type of environment.
